I think the hamstring involvement is actually a little higher. In a vertical jump from standing, the quads and glutes are the 2 big muscles doing most of the work. But when the jump produces horizontal movement, the hamstrings become much more involved. That’s why the broad jump is a staple for me as a sprinter. Athletes needing sprint speed should always be implementing horizontal movement like this.
i wish i was taught it in this way in school when we had to do this in PE lessons. i was so bad at it, if the teachers had the patience to explain it this way it would have made sense
