RULES:
The object of the game is to have the fewest points after 2 rounds. Each player takes a set of colored buildings. Layout the board. The board is called the city and has a wall that runs along the outside edge. The player with the lighter buildings places the gray cathedral anywhere on the board within the grid squares. The player with the darker buildings goes first, then turns alternate. On your turn you must place any one of your buildings on any vacant spot on the board, lining it up with the grid squares, then your opponent places a building. Buildings already in play may not be moved.
Except for each player’s first turn of the game, after you place a building, you are allowed to claim territory. To claim territory, you must have your adjacent buildings touching each other, and/or the city wall, to create an enclosed area. Diagonal connections do not count, buildings must be touching at the sides. The cathedral may not be used for creating an enclosed area.
If the enclosed space doesn’t have any of your opponent’s buildings in it, or if it only has a single opponent building in it, or if it only has the cathedral in it; then you remove the opponent’s building or cathedral and claim the territory. Your opponent may not place buildings into territories you’ve claimed. If you forget to remove a building, then it remains where it is and the territory isn’t claimed. You are allowed to claim territory if your own buildings are in it, but you do not remove them.
You may not claim territory if your opponent has 2 buildings in the enclosed space or 1 of their buildings with the cathedral. There is no limit to the size of an enclosed territory you can claim.
Removed buildings from the board return to their owner’s supply and may be re-placed on future turns if you want. If the cathedral is removed from the board, it may not be re-placed. Once 1 player can no longer place any buildings, the other player places as many of their remaining buildings as they can. Each player then scores 1 point for each square of a building they have left. Clear the board and play another round, this time with the other player placing the cathedral and going second. At the end of the round, each player combines their points for both rounds and the player with the fewest points, wins. - Навчання та стиль
This has the make a fence go inside and declare the area on the opposite side the inside vibes
i think you man make a fence go inside and declare the area on the opposite side the **inside**
link for this?
What?
Chaos, chaos!
I think that’s the point
Really seems like the cathedral was an after thought when they needed a creative name for this game
i mean, if it wasnt there the starting player could easely claim the whole board in 2 turns
@@blakebatpony I can vaguely see it but can you elaborate?
@@AnonymousGentooman oh I see now :>
@@coruscaregames like john said, just make a closed loop with 2 pieces (doesnt have to be a corner) and claim the large part, since the other player only had placed one piece theres nothing they can do to stop it if it wasnt for the cathedral
I saw this game for the first time years ago, and I've been trying over and over to remember what it's called. Thank you so much!
This feels like Go except funky pieces
Nobody asked bro 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
@@chrisdawson1776 that was unprompted
I was thinking Blockus, aside from how pieces are placed.
@@chrisdawson1776 those emojis appear to be a nose and a gray house. what exactly is that supposed to mean?
@@chrisdawson1776 based opinion!!!
I love this game and already made my handcraft version using foam.
I'll make it in cardboard, just for start.
@@LuxisAlukard perfect too.
ill generate it by paper ig but idk whag its meant to look like
@@theletteralpha Make the buildings be little Tetris pieces, and put them on a similar grid. Make the colours be different from the grid's paper; then just play Cathedral.
This seems like a great way to introduce people to basic ideas of go...
Go where?
@@bestaround3323 Go, Weqi or Baduk. It's a board game about placing stones to surround and capture territory, and is a lot of fun, but has a somewhat steep learning curve.
All I was thinking is isn't this go
Yes very similar to Go the rules are.
@@michter765 thank you Yoda.
This was so hard to play that the bishop moved to chess.
The most underrated comment. You’re after my own nerdy heart, GavinMFR. But I do hope it’s not actually difficult to play lol
Now combine this with battleship
oOh, how?
The rules are the same as chess except for these changes
Same as REGULAR Chess.
Could you do a video on how to play "Onitama"?
Man its 3 AM how did i end up here
This game sounds fun
I remember playing this once, but my set was plastic
Go, Tetris edition.
I played Tetris and nothing ever resembled that. Go, I agree more.
@@deedeeen tetris edition because they look like tetris pieces...
@@ahmadfahadhilyas, I have proof that I play Tetris better than you; of course I am gonna know how they look like. And they don't.
@@deedeeen weird flex but ok, there are multiple pieces that are tetrominoes but not all 7 of them are in the game
@@deedeeen literally every piece in this are minos. Most aren't tetraminos, but pentaminos, hexaminos, triminos, and others are represented by these sets.
I remember when I was younger my older brother would say that I couldn't claim a territory because the buildings that did enclose it according to the rules weren't physically touching, and I believed him being the gullible child I was lol
Is it magnetic? I saw a magnetic one but I think it may have been a travel version.
scramble word 2 by lignuisystems please..
Ok…but are en passant and castling allowed, though?
Yes
cant you like make a territory using an "L" piece on first move?
Or did I miss something?
0:36 "Except for each player's first turn of the game, after you place a building, you are allowed to claim territory."
@@anoobyproaz5616 then cant the 1st player claim on 2nd move?
Just place the smallest block then the opponent, then put an L piece on any corner, claim and remove opponent.
Then the opponent will do the same on the next game.
So unless there is a rule that states you need 3 or more blocks to claim, this game is cheeseable.
@@flordelphinta not if the opponents piece AND the cathedral are both in the "claimed" space
You probably can do something like that, but it doesn't gain you much. Territory is only good in that it provides space for you to play out more of your pieces at the end. An area that small will only let you play your smallest buildings (if you haven't already played them). Maybe useful if you think the final score will come down to one or two points, but that seems like a bit of a defeatist mindset to have at the start of a round.
I can't belive he didn't say "cathedral, the rules are as same as regular chess except of these few changes...."
Is there an online version of this game? Or an app maybe

So, it's like blockus then. But probably like 5 times the cost.
I was expecting
"the rules are the same as regular chess, except for these changes"
So, what stops the first player from capturing the entire board? If there's no limit to how big of an enclosed area they can claim they can just claim everything since only the cathedral is there at the start.
That's what the first turn clause is for - you can't capture any spaces on your first turn.
If you are the first to go and your opponent has more squares than you have after placing the single building, you take out the cathedral and declare the whole board as your territory
I had this a long time ago.
Why does this only have 731 likes?
it seems to be a mix of go and blockus
Its basically Yugioh Dungeon Dice Monsters
Is en pa-ss-ant allowed?
It's "en passant". Also, no.
So basically this is GO
what's keeping someone from just going in the corner, and claiming the entire board?
It can’t be claimed on turn 1, so player 2 will then place a piece, meaning that there will be a cathedral and an opponent piece, so no territory
So it's like Go and Monopoly what a game.
So... Blockus but with too many rules?
It is very like the high series Go game from the east of asian.
Im sorry, "serious" not "series"
And "Asia" not "asian"
like a halfway point between go and tetris
So... Go? This is Go, right?
This is pretty much just Go for beginners
