    Ok, this vise has me tingling in my nethers!!! I do walking sticks, spoons and such. The versatility of the jaws is just nuts

    • @evilcanofdrpepper
      @evilcanofdrpepper 2 роки тому

      so you want to wedge your walking stick in that tight jaws of that vise?

  • @kn6vbw
    @kn6vbw 2 роки тому +6

    Awesome vise! You might want to put a washer on that bottom pivot nut, before it digs into the wood. 😉

      Or even drill that size hole through a small say 6" round (judging by the size of the base) and maybe 1/8 thick steel plate and attach that to the underside of the table to give better clamping pressure distribution.

    You should get a fender washer for the vice mount so you can spread the load of the wing nut.

    You should add a washer to the wing nut under the table. Nice tool!!

    I hear Shad from Shadiversity has been looking for a high poundage European style compound bow made with traditional materials. I think this would be a great opportunity for you though you will likely need to put in a lot of effort figuring out what materials you can use and how to construct it!

    It’s a good vise, I’ve been using it as one of my three daily drivers. I wouldn’t want it to be my only vise though, it’s a little flimsy for heavy rough out work on self bows. Amazing for carving nocks and any kind of awkward delicate work. Has definitely earned its stay in the shop
    I think you’d also really like having a press as well, or a face vise-something with the jaws rotated 90 degrees so you can bear down with your full weight without relying on friction. Makes a world of difference when you can put your back and legs into it without the bow slipping all the time

    Also, it gives you easy access to the mounting screws for the jaw pads, so that you can make some custom application ones, like with a dado or cove or groove to hold round stock or a carved handle or round stock or curved faces that won't press a recurve flat.
    Yes, either a good washer, of a bit of plate metal mounted to the underside of the bench, so that the giant wingnut on the underside doesn't dig its way deeper and deeper into the wood of the workbench.

    Haha was going to say something about a washer but it looks like the comments section already has it covered.
    Separately, have you ever considered doing a bow build in a kids size? I would love to make one for/with my son (5) but I am not sure how to reduce the measurements. Thank you for the great content!
