  • This is absolutely my favorite serious LP from the Saxcat20 Channel. We decided to not redo this LP as we didn't it could be done any better a second time. Also, it is incredibly difficult to do the Super Sleuth ending and I don't want to do that again!

I’m the person who is detail oriented. So when I play this game I exhaust everything , ask every possible question ( even about the pets ) and examine everything with the monocle. It takes a lot longer to finish the game , but it makes it worth it in the end

About the attic kill: there is actually a safeguard to prevent a paradox. You COULD get killed BEFORE looking in the chest, but NEVER after looking in it, because if you see clothes in the chest, it means the murderer can't be wearing them.

Laura is definitely not that good at preventing crimes. She just wanders around as everyone dies around her.

I don't think the time runs when you're just standing around. The time advances in discrete steps at specific events like it says in the manual you read in the beginning, right? If you don't get to those trigger points, the time will not advance from what I understand...

The harp that plays on a death screen, is very similar to the piano opening from the song 'I don't like Mondays' by 'The Boomtown Rats'

#thegamingcorner I know I already commented on this video once before, but I wanted to comment on it again for the 1000 Subscriber Contest/Giveaway. This is probably my favorite LP you've ever done. Not only are you both hilarious, but you actually managed to get Super Sleuth...which is SO DAMNED HARD. The Colonel's Bequest is one of my favorite games ever, and this LP, as I said before, is the best of the best!

1:51:52. Never seen that before. Was that a bug? Funny as hell whatever it is. Too bad none of the walkthroughs on here appear to have Gloria's body dumped in the well. It was the less common of the 2 random places to find her, as I recall, but a lot scarier than when it's dumped in the gazebo.

@@LoneWolfAttack If you check out OneShortEye's vid on this, he explains it! Because this is using the cracked version, things that were meant to be random became fixed because of the nature of the crack. This makes the "bell kill", what should be a random animation, a 100% chance. This also makes it so that you cannot find the bodies in any of their alternate locations, which is probably why you can't find any playthroughs with Gloria in the well. Most players are using the cracked version, not the SCUMM version.

    SPOILERS
This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but the ending doesn't sit with me right. I don't think we got the right killer.
    - an elementary element of writing is the Checkhov's gun. Don't show a gun in act one if you don't plan using it in act 3. Here: used literally. There are also red herrings, misleading clues. Roberta is too much of a good writer to make the killer character too unsympathetic and too obvious as a killer. Which she did with Rudy. Lillian was a twist, I admit. But Rudy? This might be a red herring. Plus the game insisted on suggesting another character is friendly, when we got hints it may not be so. I think Celie isn't as innocent as she is made out to be.
    - look at the connection between the jewelry in the dog house and the treasure in the crypt. The necklace could be a gift from the colonel, sure. But it may suggest she lost it walking around, killing people. Beauregard is a bloodhound. Did it smell blood on the necklace?
You handed an incriminating piece of evidence right back to the culprit.
    - Celie is aware of you being a detective despite no one telling her you are. She's got sensing powers so she knew you would be trouble. She is hostile to you when yountry to ask about her but readily points to others as likely do-no-gooders.
    - There is a suggestion the house/the spirits used the vices of people to kill each other. Since Lillian loved uncle so much, she would never hurt him. That's why she stopped being useful when only Rudy was left.
    - Lillian doesn't smoke so the cigar in the secret passage makes no sense.
    - Likewise no sense makes Lillian dressing up as uncle. Sure she is crazy, but she loved him enough not to point to him as being the killer.
    - Celie had a motive. If the fortune was divided, and the parasite family would lose their wealth to debts and poor managing, sooner or later the property with her house on it would be lost. She couldn't afford losing her home.
    - The game outright suggests she is a possible killer by making her one of the owners of the fingerprint in the copyright protection. And then rams the fingerprint motof down your throat throughout the game.
    - the game suggests Celie hides in her house but she could be very well controlling the killer. This is where the checkhov's gun comes in. Roberta makes use of the voodoo trope (and I think possession?), but plays it down here. Like there is some mention of evil spirits but it is again played down and blamed on Lilly being crazy.
    - it is suggested uncle was just acting his disability. But what if it was Celie's doing? His sudden walking could be attributed to him being a controlled zombie.
    - if uncle was controlled, it could explain why the bodies disappeared so quickly. Either they gained superhuman strength or there was another person to clean up the mess (hence the cigar in the passage and the cane he didn't need as a zombie).
    - it could also explain the will and the doctor's panic. He might have been continuously poisoning uncle and panicked when uncle just stood up after taking a lethal dose.
    - why is the game so insistent on you befriending Celie? She knows you are no threat to her as a heir since you are the only one not inheriting money. But she is hostile to your snooping and prying into her matters.
    - There is a link between eating and being controlled. Eating Celie's cooking was the last thing Rudy did before going bonkers. Lillian was in the kitchen with Celie before the first murder, implying she ate something in the food before going psycho.
You, I think, didn't eat after arrival, didn't eat with Lillian, and then refused to eat eith Rudy. You also refused drinking with them on various occasions.
    - it is very sus Rudy revealed his plan of blaming Lillian for the murder of the colonel to the colonel. Why did he even attack without a weapon? Why on the attic? Did he go there to dress up as the colonel? And found the colonel using his old clothes? No, that makes no sense since the clothes were still on dead Lillian. Buuuut... a zombie wouldn't think about that.
    - the sudden knowledge of the colonel about Laura finding the treasure is sus. Like how did he know? Through some psychic powers? Laura didn't tell him, else he wouldn't mention he had his ways to find out.
    - Celie calmly rocking in her chair on her porch at night was terribly sus. Why wasn't she no longer afraid of being killed if her share was growing and the risk of her being next increased?
    - the "I leave everything to Celie" in the ending sounds like something she could be planning all along. Also I think the colonel was back in the chair, suggesting something controlled his bouts of regained agility.
    - the hidden Bible suggests the family was fleeing from the war, but what if it was not entirely the case? Maybe the slaughter of an entire family happened before? And only Celie survived it for some reason? Colonel would buy the property along with her.
    - Maybe Celie wasn't praying gor safety in the chapel? Maybe she was controllingnthe killer(s) again? I don't remember if a murder happened at that time.
    - I am sus about the fact the family tried to institutionalise Lillian before. There was no will back then so why would they do that? Perhaps that was a thing that prevented Celie's plan from coming to fruitition earlier?
    - If you repeatedly look in the coffee pot in Celie's kitchen, you will notice the kettle is steadily emptied. If there was something to control people in it, it was likely in there.
    - The shower kill at the very beginning makes no sense. If it was motivated by "family wanting to tear Lilly and uncle apart" it wouldn't be directed at Laura since she wasn't to that house before and barely knew the colonel. It would make sense if someone was controlled though.
Sure, one could argue that it was scripted to happen any time and the fact they let it happen before any murders is an accident, but can we speak about accidents in a game so meticulous it even did mirror reflections or prevented an attic kill after looking at the clothes?
    - the "we are all going to die after midnight" coming from the only person who survives and even stays out in the open as if knowing the killer won't target her despite her getting richer with every kill, is just a way to move attention away from her.
    - The attic fight suggests Rudy was controlled and colonel was to die thus preventing the will from happening. Celie would then just hand Rudy to cops, being the only one alive. The change of plan to have him will everything to Celie was a last minute improvisation.
If Rudy was so callous and calculating, why didn't he go kill Celie first? (And how did he end up in a locked attic unless someone told him how to get to it?)
These are just things from the top of my head.
    What do you think?

    • @SaxcatGamingCorner
      @SaxcatGamingCorner  Рік тому +3

Rudy totally saw the murders happening from Lillian and used it to his advantage. He wanted that money. He had tons of debts. Once Lillian wiped them all out, he planned to kill the Colonel and pinn that one of her as well. Considering she did kill all the others (as proven from their bodies all being down the chute) what would one more hurt?
Rudy is a sly, smart, greedy man. He knew exactly what his plan was once people were gone. Celie, had nothing at all to do with it. All on Lilian and then Rudy taking over to finish the job and take the money.

Tulane's couselling department is going to have a field day or Laura when she comes back to school on Monday. Gloria's medical secret. Seeing Tulane university is a secondary setting... I'd say aborted her kid and used it for stem cells as Tulane continued stem cell research on it's own without Federal funding. Ethel is going to need stem cells for her liver very very soon.... heh.
