    Ironically I'm currently planning a trip to Grasslands National Park which does not have trees actually, at least not at most of the trailheads

    Hello Chase. Thank you so much. I just started your Elements 101. Wow. It's a banger and challenging. I will need to do 3-5 rounds before moving on to elements 102. Thank you, legend.

    I lead guided hikes and had terrible tightness in my calves on my last hike and someone on a hiking forum recommended this video, I did these before a guided hike this morning and I felt much better than I had; calves felt fine, hips didn't hurt, these really really helped me out

    I really liked the 3d muscles being highlighted for this video, it was really helpful.

    Definitely going to incorporate these stretches into my warmup. I day hike and neither my pack (camera gear) or myself are ultralight. LOL

    I’m a newbie hiker (only 5 miles today) but this warmup made it feel incredible and I didn’t have nearly the same amount of strain on my lower back/hips. I’m overweight, though, so hopefully as I increase my distance I’ll also feel better.

    I just want to thank you very much for all these videos. I have a "knee" issue creeping up on me a little (I'm 55) and I found that stretching my legs almost always alleviates that, whether it's my hamstring, quads or lower leg. I'm confident that my knee is not the real problem although I'm having it checked out just to be sure. I also do self-myofascial massage on a foam roller and other methods, as well as follow some of your videos. Strengthening all of these areas is key and is helping a lot.
    Thank you for making me and others aware of all of this. I also did phys therapy for tendinitis in my elbow and the PTs confirm what you are saying. Thanks again!!!

    As a former varsity long-distance runner at the university level I have been around long enough to have done some of these, and those that I hadn’t done before I understand why they’d work. Thanks!

    This make so much sense but I haven't seen a single hiking video on this. I do several of the exact same dynamic stretches for running, but never thought to do them for hikes. Key is that they're dynamic not static.

    I have just finished the Nijmeegse 4Daagse (a 4 day hiking/waling event in which you walk 50km a day, in the Netherlands so it is mostly flat haha), and this warming up together with some of your stretch video's definitely helped out a lot! thanks!

    I had an issue with calf strains about ten years ago and ever since then I've done a pre-hike routine which includes massage of the calves plus several exercises which loosen the calves.... and the hips especially. I do a core strength routine twice a week which has helped a lot.

    Never think to do this before a hike, but I use most of these moves before I run. Looks like you switched to the Xeros in this one. How do you like them compared to Vivo? I had Vivos, but they got destroyed in 2 months of wearing them and I've been using Xeros for the past 6 months now. From what I remember the Vivos felt a little more well built and sturdy, but the Xeros feel softer and more flexible.

    You let the engine in your car warm up before you drive so why wouldn't you stretch your legs and body before starting out on a hike. It just makes sense to stretch and warm your muscles up to help with movement and get the blood flowing before you set out not to mention it can also help prevent pulling a muscle and ending your day early in pain.
    It makes things so much easier when you are warmed up and ready to go specially if you're heading straight into a steep incline or decline at the start of your hike. Nothing worse than feeling that muscle tightness early in your hike as you then tend to compensate for that muscle and cause injury to other muscles as a result of overuse.
    I don't necessarily do all the stretches that you've gone through but always stretch the main muscles in my legs because I've experienced the joy of shin splints in the past.

    • @tamie341
      @tamie341 Рік тому

      With modern cars you don't need to warm up the engine. I agree about the stretching part tho 😉

    Oh, is this the present shoe you've fallen in love with? ;~) Looks like Xero?
