Hey Linus, for parking in the garage I highly recommend getting wheel stops! Yes you can do a tennis ball from the ceiling, or other options. But wheel stops work the best. You just park exactly where you want your vehicle to be, stick them down in front of front tires! Now you just pull forward until they stop you. Actually made my own out of wood railing, stain, and velcro so I can pull them up if working in that space so I don't trip.
Tennis ball from the ceiling has the benefit of not catching dirt like a Velcro strip, and not messing with your ability to sweep or wash your floor. You will never trip on it either. Sure it may look silly but it’s just so dang practical with almost no downsides.
I've used tennis balls for 40yrs only thing is changing them out when they dry rot
@@diggoran im pretty sure his cats would go ham on those poor things :D
You can use Rubber Parking Guide Blocks
Although the tennis ball tempts me to play a game where I see how hard I can hit it
Would love to see more detail on how the I/O travels to/from the rack. Is it all through the fiber optic cable? How about the Bluetooth signal from the Xbox controllers? Great video though, entertaining as always!
Same here!
Up! 🙏
Was about to message the same question. How do the controllers reach?
The bluetooth from the rack to the theater room isn't boosted or amplified in any way, they talked about it back in the home theater video I believe it was.
I believe with his earlier setups he uses a fiber optic thunderbolt cable for a hub he uses at his workspace. Those are x360 controllers, the wireless ones can only communicate to a PC via a USB dongle (benefit there is that the dongle can support 4 controllers). But if Bluetooth needs to be utilized, then I imagine a USB Bluetooth dongle can be employed. Both of those methods would use that hub to bridge the gap.

I legitimately love these house update videos. Some of it is just aspirational, being an underpaid NGO worker, but a lot of it is just seeing Linus being more unfiltered and relaxed. Throw in all the rest of the cast interactions and this is pure gold. Linus should move into a new house after he finishes this one.
I love Yvonne she’s definitely the better half the shade she throws linus is amazing 😂
Love the guest appearance of Linus’s better half
If you want to see her throwing shade, you should watch the roast of Linus.
Miss seeing Luke (and his laugh), hope we can see him in regular videos (maybe even SC, TL if not LTT) more often!
Hi Linus, little tip for your magnetic cable management tool, add some rubberized circle material around the magnets to increase the friction coefficient so it would help the sliding issue when mounted vertically, similar to something like a thin gasket flexible enough so the magnet totally touch the surface for strength but the added friction coefficient around the magnets would diminish the sliding significantly,
I love how luke just stares at the cables at 6:45, completely dead inside like everyone dealing with programmers.
Love the dynamic that Linus and Yvonne have. Coming out of a bad relationship, it's really noticeable in these videos how comfortable they are around each other. Maybe it is just me but what stuck out to me was when Yvonne was discussing the van parking and said "Linus is really insistent it needs to go on this side, so I guess it's important to him". It seems to me that even though she doesn't understand why he want's it parked on that side and she has her own ideas about parking, she trust's that he has valid reasons for wanting it a certain and understand's it's important to him and going along with it. That kind of cooperation / trust between two people is rare.
Very wholesome. My guess is that he likes to park his Volt a certain way for electric charging and the other side is better oriented.
I'm sure it's not all sunshine and rainbows, every relationship has some flaws or something that annoys you about the other person. People always put their best self forward for the camera, don't take it as that's how relationships are 100% of the time. I'm saying all this so you don't potentially sabotage yourself out of what could be a pretty healthy future relationship. Compromises are just a part of that, and it's healthy as long as the compromises are equally from both people.
@@pasteleptic yeah but that on camera was an example of a compromise, not "sunshine and rainbows".
sunshine and rainbows, and unrealistic portrayals of a relationship, would be things like rom-coms where the partner automatically wants everything you want and doesn't have differing opinions: the perfect partner, requiring no need for compromise.
You do know, there's nothing wrong with actually informative and positive portrayals of a healthy relationship - there's nothing wrong from learning from those also. I mean we have an over-abundance of shitty relationship portrayal in media, so what's wrong with taking this portrayal and learning what to look for from it? You don't have to rain on ppls parade all the time.
@@laur-unstagenameactuallyca1587 Life rarely goes as any form of media portrays, would you be able to know how somebody's life is by their Facebook, or are you just making assumptions? Personal experiences are what truly matters for most things, with the exception of videos that are specifically made to help manage aspects of your life. It's never a good idea to assume how relationships should be based on what you observe on video, that will only lead to disappointment and potential breakup with what could be a normal and healthy relationship.

might be good to add some rubberized bits to the magnetic cable management thingies. will keep them from sliding around if cables are bumped or you have a large enough clump of cables to make it slide. also might help protect whatever you stick it to from scratching.

Love you and Luke vidz just feels like your hanging out with friends. That why I love WAN show, not for the tech news, but for you and Luke catching up since you guys are separated at work.
The most amazing part of this video is how this dials moved by themselves at 10:31
3:44 Thank you, Yvonne, for activating Luke's Laugh. That's all we need.
Instead of hiring movers, we paid packers to pack the rental truck since they know how to pack the truck so as to minimize breakage. It worked! We did the 1300 mile journey twice since our 'stuff' would not fit in single large U-Haul truck. At the other end we paid movers to unpack and move the content into the house. Doing it this way was still cheaper that hiring movers to do the whole thing.
It also means you're safe from moving companies "losing" your stuff, or holding it hostage unless you pay them more.
That really is a thing that happens - not infrequently with state-to-state moves.

I'm mildly infuriated at how genius that cable managment solution is and that I hadn't thought of it. I'll be getting one for sure.
I wonder if there are any downsides to putting magnets next to copper cables?
@@BrianStokesKC It shouldn't cause any issues since its a static magnetic field.
@@BrianStokesKC Not really.
In theory, if the cable was constantly moving around the magnet, you could induce a current in the cable.
@@BrianStokesKC Yes it called inducted electromagnetic currents... unless the cable is shielded against magnetic interference, placing a strong magnet next to the cable will induce a ripple / current into the flow, which could cause instability in the current itself.
@@BrianStokesKC ever seen a strong magnet next to a chunk of copper or magnet dropped down a copper pipe? It's pretty cool. The copper itself is not magnetic, but when its approached by magnets, the electrons on the surface of the copper being rotating. In an effort to resist the magnet's pull, the electrons briefly create their own magnetic field, which slows down the magnet's descent.
I dunno about it affecting signal integrity, I'm not a cablemagnetologist, but at least it's fun.

I do wonder if it is advised you get a more course metal surface to use them on though, because as strong as they are I did see a lot of slippage at 9:12. Although it shouldn't be an issue if mounted upside down
@@pcmasterracetechgod5660 they're prototypes, i imagine they will have to balance magnet strength to both avoid slippage and then magnetic interference
@@pcmasterracetechgod5660 That was a *heavy* bundle of cables being held up entirely by *one* arch on a smooth surface. It was basically set up to fail. You'd normally use more than one and then it should be fine.

12:50 Kinda useless in in this scenario, but something you can do with an xbox controller when steam is running in the backgroud is control the mouse by holding the xbox button + moving the right stick. XBOX + LS up or down controls the volume. XBOX + LS click is play/pause . Left click and right click are RB and LB respectively. XBOX + back button brings up an on-screen keyboard and press the start button without holding the xbox button closes the keyboard. There's probably more that I might not know about but this is what I have figured after messing about with my xbox controller.

You might want to look into steel kicker plates for doors, they are relatively cheap and make fantastic surfaces for sticking magnets to.
I stuck one to the side of a bookcase with 3M Command(TM) strips (so that I could remove them without damaging the bookcase if I needed to), and use it to hang all sorts of tools and baskets off it, but If I were to buy one for under my desk, I'd probably buy one with pre-drilled countersunk holes.
This is so cool to see, as a person in the architecture and house design, happy to see someone that WANTS to spend money on the hook ups, (a lot of people don't want to spend extra on electrical and other service) then hate it when they need to use extension cords.

i am really enjoying these house updates. more. i need moar.
9:08 and here we see the reason magnets aren’t as useful as they could be. They might be super strong wrt pulling straight off away from the surface, but they’re exponentially less capable at resisting sliding movements across the surface it’s attached to.
They're not perfect for every scenario obviously, they never acted like they are, BUT they are very useful in a lot of DIY scenarios
I'd say yeah, vertical mounting with them probably isn't amazing, especially with that amount of weight, but things like under-desk stuff with the metal plates looks really good, since all the weight is in that vertical direction.
You are not gonna be cable managing a wall, you are gonna be cable managing under the desk, so magnets are literally perfect for it considering they are gonna be *pulled away* from their contact point not slid around
Will those magnets interact with the magnetic fields of coppers, causing interference with the data?
