This discussion is really interesting. My dad is a professor of political philosophy at a local university, and he also happens to be Catholic. He’s the smartest person I’ve ever met honestly. Would love to hear his thoughts on some of these topics
I can honestly say that it is not often when I'm amazed by how much knowledge I can gain on a subject matter, in such a short time period. This was a brilliant conversation. Thank-you
What I like is that you guys talk about all these complex things, but you don’t use big fancy worlds unless it’s absolutely necessary, you talk about complex things in a way regular people can understand and that’s a skill
Look at what we're doing. Literally determining how to program the consciousness we have in our minds, into beings we're creating, who will one day ultimately look, sound, act, and be not like us, but us. And we ask ourselves where our consciousness comes from. Where we come from.
Isn't it strange that the collective consciousness communicates nonverbally irrespective of time or distance? No effort made. It's as if we are doing more work verbalizing the consensus we've all reached seemingly independently, instead of recognizing our subconscious ability to communicate instantly and effortlessly an abstract concept we struggle to define. It's synchronicity, us even being here together to listen to each other describe our unique perspective of this... awareness. One by one, they'll modulate their frequency to gain clarity on that which cannot be put into words, to find solace in knowing they're not alone and that whatever the awareness is... is bigger than themselves and concerns all of us. Thanks for hosting the party. I was told there'd be punch and pie?
You never know, there could be thousands of gods or maybe even no god. Maybe any people’s beliefs are different and while some may believe in the Christian god or Ala (monotheism) or believe in the Greek Pantheon (polytheist.)
Anyways, this was an amazing conversation. Best I’ve listened to in many years. was a big fan of both of you and I’m so glad to finally see the academical side and not just the „dumbed down“ 10 Minute „easy to digest“ UA-cam style (it is of course neither dumbed down nor at all easy to digest) love it so much, much love
God I could listen to Exurb1a all day long, he’s hilarious, has a great accent and tone, and he always talks about interesting stuff. Glad you brought us this video man :)
I downloaded it and listened to it on my bike, now I've got it on muted to still give you the watchtime you deserve, hope you don't mind. I really liked it, especially the idea that the fastest way to find out what a program does is to run it as a metaphore for determanistic/free will.
On the 'only being able to dream about ourselves' topic, I personally once dreamt of being able to see myself in the 3rd person and even seen something, somewhere I wasn't
That section confused me a little, because I often describe myself as a disembodied 3rd person camera in my dreams. The majority of the time I’m myself in 1st person, but I’m also consistently a free floating entity that I can only poorly describe as being behind the camera that I’m very vaguely aware I’m viewing my dream through. In those cases I’m either not part of the narrative in any way or I’m viewing myself from above.
I almost always dream in 3rd person; it's like I no longer exist, I usually do not know the people either. Very odd! It's rare for me to dream in 1st person. Anyways, loved this video! Almost finished with it, love to see more
This was so insanly helpfull to me, I do not know how to thank you. Not only do I adore the take on deteremnism but also it just solved an existential crisis. I had a bad psilocybin trip and basically thought of something very similar to what I now, thanks to you, know to be the idea philosophy. Now I might, hopefully be able to solve this personal problem. Once again thank you.
that was such a scintillating conversation you two had. I'll have to listen to it again. (gotta jot down all the books and podcasts you referred!) thank you!
1:33:10 about the Radiolab episode and the tumor. I think Exurb1a is talking about Robert M. Sapolsky (1:33:53) in an interview about Free Will. Sam Harris also starts with this anecdote as an introduction in his book Free Will.
Looking for a 'self' inside my head really messed with me. It's like playing hide and seek with yourself. Like you're in this huge mansion and you're opening every door, thoroughly searching each room, being convinced that there is nothing there, but as soon you close the door, you know the room isn't empty. It's just so weird. I kinda get how you get bipolar disorders or schizophrenia now, it's when you open a door and you do find someone in there.
In my opinion, two of the best UA-camrs in existence, talking about an extremely interesting topic, with equally interesting tangents, talking in apologetic British, equals some of the best content I've ever listened to.
I've had lots of dreams in the third person. It's quite common actually. It's like you are watching a psychedelic nonsensical movie. Sometimes I'm even in the dream but I'm seeing myself in the third person, from different angles and can't exactly control what I do.
Apologies for the double comment, but I just finished this and I went in expecting mostly discussion on the ramifications of conciousness, and I wasnt really expecting the conversation to get to the point where it had me questioning my worldviews, I honestly think I might someday look back at this video as a major turning point for how I think about things
Dictionary of obscure sorrows is also up there (talking about philosophical focused channels ofc.) However I'll say that those ivy league professors who publish their lectures on UA-cam would give all of them a run for their money lol.

Wait.....exurb1a is a human? I thought he was just a god
I do love the reverberation on his side though, either he's recording from a hallway or from heaven, both are equally likely I'd say.
aftab khan ahaha *lip bite* I could say the same about chu
God in human form
justnatalia A god? Who are the other gods? :)
I love the energy of this conversation, so vibrant and respectful.
extremely enlightening and interesting topics were discussed in this video, this is so so cool to listen to!
I downloaded it and listened to it on my bike, now I've got it on muted to still give you the watchtime you deserve, hope you don't mind.
I really liked it, especially the idea that the fastest way to find out what a program does is to run it as a metaphore for determanistic/free will.
Indeed... that might be one of my favourite ideas I've ever come across!
Boutta watch all of your videos while I wait for this
Much appreciated!
Listened to this during my workout, best workout in my entire life if I can be honest. Because I was listening so hard I ignored the pain lol
Got to get those gains somehow.
Drinking game: 1 shot every time @exurb1a says "sure, sure"
2 shots every time he apologizes
I dismissed watching this for so long but I regret it, this is amazing and severely underrated
This is one of the most mind blowing and inspirational talks I have heard in years
can't wait for you and turtle boi
0 dislikes, you both are legends.

10 God damn it
Love how my whole life led me to watch this video
THIS! WAS! AWESOME!!
thank you very much
Honestly congratulations, can't wait to see this
Thank you man!!
That was probably the most polite conversation I have ever heard. Thank you both for allowing us to witness that ☺️
This kind of stuff would make a legendary podcast, great content!
This needs to become a series ❤️
that was such a scintillating conversation you two had. I'll have to listen to it again. (gotta jot down all the books and podcasts you referred!) thank you!
Thank you very much indeed. If you do manage to note them down, be sure to leave a comment!
1:33:10 about the Radiolab episode and the tumor. I think Exurb1a is talking about Robert M. Sapolsky (1:33:53) in an interview about Free Will. Sam Harris also starts with this anecdote as an introduction in his book Free Will.
Amazing display of 2 grown men have a respectful talk
After I watched all videos of exurb1a I found this channel: I have to watch them all too :D
We need an Audio book of these guys I would definitely listen to this Gods during class
This would make a great podcast
"...Its worse than nihilism..."
best way to end a conversation.
👉🏻"C R A F T"👉🏻
YT probably recommended me this based on how I use Exurb1a's channel like a recreational drug.. 😂
Anybody else?
Yeah, but the algorithm was a couple days late for me.
Dude I watch his channel just as much as I smoke pot😂
I've had lots of dreams in the third person. It's quite common actually. It's like you are watching a psychedelic nonsensical movie. Sometimes I'm even in the dream but I'm seeing myself in the third person, from different angles and can't exactly control what I do.
Apologies for the double comment, but I just finished this and I went in expecting mostly discussion on the ramifications of conciousness, and I wasnt really expecting the conversation to get to the point where it had me questioning my worldviews, I honestly think I might someday look back at this video as a major turning point for how I think about things
i love this, this is an absolutely amazimg community, of smart, thoughtful and respectful people
the most respectful people imaginable
“Couldn’t agree more” and “that’s a good question” hit different the tenth time.
Today is my birthday and this video makes me excited more !
Happy birthday! 🎉
@@mystiverse thank you !
These dudes are tbh maybe the smartest dudes on youtube they have beautifull information and they are good at what they do
Dictionary of obscure sorrows is also up there (talking about philosophical focused channels ofc.)
However I'll say that those ivy league professors who publish their lectures on UA-cam would give all of them a run for their money lol.
I'd absolutely love to see more conversations like this. Somehow you keep it educational while at the same time making it entertaining in a way
extremely stimulating to listen to. glad i found this:) thx a lot, appreciate ur contribution!!
