This album was THE SHIZZ back in the day. Every single song on it was FIRE, and ALL of them got played on the radio. "No Parking", "Freak-a-Zoid", "Wet My Whistle", "Night Rider", "Electricity", "Playmates", and the two MONSTER slow jams, "Feels So Good" and "Slow Jam"! These songs were constantly blasting out of every car stereo in the neighborhood. Good times.
So many memories...so many awesome jams!!
I forgot about “playmates” that was my shi .
I loved Freak a zoid. I need to hear that again. Lol.
And also “electricity “
Can't forget "midas touch"
You are 100% correct. I'm 57 and was into AC/DC, Van Halen, Judas Priest, all day every day, but when we hit the club on Friday and Saturday nights, my two left feet were out on the dance floor for this!
I am 58 and I followed the same bands as you.
@wiltchamberlainisthegoat344 Jay & Amber gonna need to check out the Funkmaster .. George Clinton
I am 59 and I was the same as you. Nothing like the 12" versions of these songs!
57…same here. We had such great music, concerts and clubs. Totally awesome dude!❤
I am 59 and I can say the same!!!
This takes me back to my high school years! Midnight Star had a bunch of hits in the 80s, and this is one of the best. You'll also get a kick out of "Operator", "Midas Touch", and a dance club classic "Freak-a-Zoid".
I second and third Freak-a-Zoid.....great song 😁
Don't forget "Night Rider", "Wet my Whistle", and "Slow Jam." All are great MS songs!
Yes to all of these, especially "Freakazoid"!
Midas Touch is a must!
You took my 3 choices right out of my mouth. These guys were perfect house party music.
"No Parking Baby...no parking on the Dance Floor" 🔥 PLEASE bring me back to these simpler, fun times!!!!!!!
Next one by them MUST BE FREAK-A-ZOID!!!
In the mid '80's, every bar that had a "DJ and Dancing" night was playing this. Trademark 80's jam!
Omg! This brings back some of my greatest clubbing memories. This song was absolutely huge! You couldn’t walk into a club without moving to this awesome tune. I love all their stuff. Thanks for playing this. I have to add it to my playlist. Y’all gotta listen to Freak-A-Zoid! You’ll love it!!!
Sweet!
YES!!!
Absolutely got to do Freak-A-Zoid!
They are from Cinncinati
YESSSSS Freak a zoid please
It was the early 1980's and No Parking was the most popular song played at the roller rink and we were going so fast that everything and everyone was a blur. Thank you for such a great reaction! ❤️
YESSSS!!!
If you liked this one you’ll dig Freakazoid & Electricity 🔥
This classic still gets us old heads up and jammin’!
Souther California is huge on funk. We have teens still bumping this
Another one that brings back memories of roller skating in the 80's!! Love this!! Great job you guys and Merry Christmas!!
Oh heck yeah! When it started up, everyone would scream rush onto the floor!
Yaaasss! This was the jam at the rink! 😍
Yea, my happiest memories were of my father taking me and my siblings to the roller rink on the weekends through the late 70s, early 80s. A lot of the music The Squad plays in that time frame often takes me back.
another song to get you guys dancing is MORRIS DAY JUNGLE LOVE
I am 55 and electro funk acts like midnight star, cameo, Prince, Rick James, the Time were the people I loved listening to back in the early 80's! That period was sooooooo amazing musically speaking. Prince was hitting his stride with the 1999 album, Rick James had super freak and cold blooded - an amazing time!
Definitely!
Zapp
George Clinton
Micowave
Paul Hardcastle
Newcleus
Mantronix
Jonzun crew
Full force
Lisa Lisa & Cult jam
Dayton
Bootsy Collins
Daz band
Trouble funk
Herbie Hancock
Jellybean
Ready for the world
SOS band
BB&Q band
Freeez
Endless list...
And when all else failed, Rick had Charlie Murphy to mess with.😂
80's club. Now you've done it!
Next up by this awesome band, "FREAK-A-ZOID"!
Ahh, I loved this song in high school!! The 80s were so amazing. We had so much good music and so much variety.
Class of 86 here. This was the club jam back then!
This is one of those songs that always uplifts me. This was a mix of funk, rap, R&B and electronica that you only found in the 80's. No Parking on the Dance Floor is such a cool concept that just gets you moving. I still listen to it to this day as one of my favorites. As others have said, check out all of their songs. They're great. Freak-a-zoid was an early 80's anthem for many of us kids and was in that same space in time when break dancing was popular.
Jay needs an 80's theme party to get him in a funkier mood! ❤🤖🤖
Y’all bout to get a dose of “back in the day”.
I’ll be forced to give you a ticket….I’ll never forget that line… 🤣
We did alot of skating back in the day to this. This was a time when many R&B group had that weird synthesizer sound in their music.
You should react to "Slow Jam" by Midnight Star! A quiet storm staple.
They also did a song called "Freak-a-zoid"
Midnight Star always delivers the funk. They have a huge catalogue of funky and r&b jams to choose from.
I used to blast this song in my Chevy lowrider in the late '80s. I think I'm going to play it right now and blast it again. Neighbors watch out!
Pure 80 s dance to go with Gap Bands "You Droppoed a Bomb on Me" If you haven't done Eddie Grant "Electric Avenue" that shouldbenext
This is the jam right here! Please check out Operator, Freak-A-Zoid, Wet My Whistle, Midas Touch and Curious all by Midnight Star!
This takes me back to my high school days. This song was a must at any 80s high school dance or party.
Yes Jay, you would love Freak-A-Zoid too! I think it's even better than No Parking, which is great in itself. Many childhood dance memories with this band! And for Amber there are several hits between Atlantic Starr and Surface that she would adore I'm sure...romantic as they come.
Freak a zoids, robots, please report. Freak a zoids, robots, please report to the dance floor!!!
@@jcstone5696 then the punchy bass kicks right in!
Loved dancing to this in the 80s. You can't sit still if this is on!
The best! It gives a similar funk like Cameo or Rick James but you hear this and instantly want to choreograph a dance to go along with the vibe. Love your reactions!
Definitely need to do more Midnight Star. Also, check out the SOS Band (Take your time), D Train (You’re the one for me) Colonel Abrams (I’m not gonna let you get the best of me) if you like the future-funk / R&B. ✌🏾
Definitely need to do some D Train
Love LOVE the SOS Band!!
I was thinking of that D Train song tonight! What a groove.
I love Midnight Star, I once saw them in concert with Shalamar, and a group called Klymaxx opening for them. You should definitely check out Klymaxx if you haven't already. Klymaxx was an all female R & B band. There big hits were,
"The Men All Pause", "Meeting in the Ladies Room", "Diva's Need Love Too", and a ballad called "I Miss You".
Ladies room is the bomb! 😍
Whoa!!! That's a BEAST of a line-up!! I'm envious.
This.....this right here above....☝️
You saw Klymaxx, Shalamar, & Midnight Star at the same concert? I am so jealous! Especially Klymaxx!
All those groups had great songs!
Jr. High jam. Good stuff. 👍
I was 13 when this song came out...definitely brings the memories of Friday night at Skateland on the roller skates
The song is Immortality!
Jay’s dancing made this video! 😂 Love this song!
I feel so lucky to have been around to hear all this funk music first hand! You all don't know what you missed!
The two brothers who formed Midnight Star, Reggie and Vincent Calloway, became Calloway after Midnight Star. They had one big song, "I Wanna Be Rich." They were also two of the nicest men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
Is that right? I had no idea! Thanks for the tip
This kicked me into a bit of bedside boogie, lol. This was major back in the day, played in every club and roller rink. Thanx so much, it was great fun. Take care, Peace
Lets dance. Good song. Love the funky sound. Freak-a-Zoid, the title says it all. Thanks again.
Great Song !!! Reminds me of my skating rink days !!😂 Look up “Jam on it” by Newcleus
Jam On It is still a favorite! A roller skating & break dancing must have 😃
Memories on the dance floor when I lived in 80s California .Every body dressed nice and having fun .Good times!. Thank you
You both would of had so much fun in the 80's. Such a great era for music of all genres.
This was a roller skating jam when I was a kid!!! Love it!!!
Yes midnight star.. my favorite hit from them is "freakazoid." Makes you wanna dance. I'm 52 and this is the best reaction channel. You all always bring a smile to my face. In the 80's I listened to all types of music from rap, soul, to hard rock and easy listening. All over the map. But there are those songs I always come back to. This is one of them. I enjoy watching you discover them
We used to roller skate the hell out of this song!
Yes finally, check out Operator, The Midas Touch and Slow Jam too.
I'm 61 and danced my tail feathers off to this one! So fun!
Now it's time for Kool and the Gang "Get Down on it"......
What a great ride down memory lane. Thank you!
I would love to see you both get up and dance to these great songs! You both can dance great in your seats why not get up and dance!?!
Freak A Zoid and Operator are also club classics...now let's dance!
Wife here..OMG.., Hey..,Love Love Love ..,Midnight Star..Skating in the 80's!!
Geez, huge hit on the dance floor
I have this album on cassette tape, great song from my time zone
Love your reaction guys!!! Midnight Star has a lot of great songs! Operator is a great one!!
Electricity as well
And headlines , slow jam is great too
My first love is R&B and Jazz. However, you guys have introduced me to genres I knew nothing about, but enjoy.
Midnight Star released this album in 1983 at a time when Breakdancing was becoming a phenomenon and their song Freak-A-Zoid was being played in clubs and boom boxes everywhere. I can remember the DJ at our school dances playing this and kids formed circles on the dancefloor and us kids would take turns showing off our latest Breakdance moves. They also had a hit titled Slow Jam that all the guys would grab a girl and slow dance to. Another group you should check out is The Deele and their hit Body Talk. They are similar to Midnight Star. Also, check out The Bar-Kays hit Freakshow On The Dancefloor . It is similar also. All of these were popular Breakdance songs. Thanks for reacting!
One of my FAVORITE concerts back in the 80's. Absolutely wonderful band!
This was some house party music back in the day. Now we need Meeting In The Ladies Room by Klymaxx.
I wonder if they will catch the meaning behind the song 🤑
Great song choice! I remember listening to this played on the radio constantly! This was the jam back in the day! Two more Midnight Star songs you should react and listen to are "Freakazoid" and "Slow Jam". I guarantee that you would enjoy the both of them! Happy Holidays to you both and your entire family! God bless! ⛄🎄🎁🎉♥️♥️
Old school R&B/Funk. Love it!
I’ve loved this song since the first time hearing it!! I’m 58!!
Reminds me of riding home on the bus from middle school and listening with my Walkman to this song. That "robotic voice" was a big deal during this time. Several bands were using it - and we were enjoying all of them.
Cincinnati finest group formed in Cincinnati..Mt healthy..
I love this song and have not thought of it in a while!!!!!
This was my jam when we would go to the clubs . When this jam came on the club and dance floor would be packed jammed. With people
80s electro-fiunk was awesome and loads of fun. I guess Bruno Mars is the only one keeping that sound alive these days.
I remember hearing this in high school. We would go to the dance clubs on Friday night for teen night and the girls loved it!
I remember dancing to this at the clubs! So many great memories. You tell this was the 80's because they're rockin some of that Miami Vice look.
Another great Midnight Star track is “Freakazoid”. If you love voice box then you’ll love this!
I remember break dancing to this in my Bugle Boy parachute pants back in middle school
This Album, Right Here got some serious radio play in its day.
They went Multi Platinum with this one.
Electricity
Freakazoid
Wet My Whistle
No Parking
Slow Jam
Playmates
Jus Sayin'
Y'all need some Heatwave - Groove Line, Boogie Nights and their CLASSIC slow jam Always and Forever!
"WET MY WHISTLE!!"
Is another MONSTER jam by Midnight Star & my personal favorite from them.
You have to hear their slow cuts “ Slow Jam” or “ Feels so good” bomb cuts.
I ruled the damn dance floor to this jam lol!! For real!!
No Parking in the Dance Floor, Meeting in the Ladies Room by Klymaxx and More Bounce to the Ounce by Zapp and Roger are the skating rinks jams!!
Nothing better than some funk on the dancefloor (or the parking lot, or anywhere) anytime, anywhere! I've always asked that same question Jay did, "How can anyone NOT like this?!" Thanks for this great reaction! 💙✌
OMG I can't believe y'all are doing this fabulous funky song......takes me back for sure...especially fun at the skating rink 😊. Been trying forever to get someone to react to it.
We used to tear this up on the dance floor!!!
If you wanna get deep into the 80’s dance vibe check out their song “Freakazoid.” That one got all the breakdancers on the floor!
Every single song on this album is a banger .
The next jam from them should be "The Midas Touch" that song is such a jam,it was one of their string of hits in the 80's.
Midnight Star another 70s hot group. They definitely beat it up every time.
Midnight Star another lovely song is .
Midnight Star ( Slow Jam)
Jerry Chavez ,
Denver Colorado
I was so enjoying your reaction (Jay, I could you see you plucking the air bass!). And then, with your "sign-off", I started to cry. Thank you for the positivity and the mini-pep talk. 💓
Freak-a-Zoid was my jam during the break dancing /pop-locking era.
They also had other hits like Operator, Electricity, Wet My Whistle, Midas Touch, etc.
Midnight Star : Freak-A-Zoid / Operator
SOS Band : Just Be Good To Me / Baby Do It Right
Herbie Handcock - Rockit
Gary Numan - Cars
Soul 2 Soul - Back To Life
Snap - I've Got The Power / Rhythm Is A Dancer
La Bouche - Sweet Dreams
This is one of the big songs from 1980s and just has a special feeling for me because I met someone that I truly love… What a great memory
Oh man! This song brings back some fantastic memories of 14-year old me & my friends at the roller rink! Midnight Star was so fun. I miss this great music! Another great one by them is called "Freak-A-Zoid". So funky & groovy!
I remember having this on cassette back in the day.😆
Song written by the Bee Gees and sung by Celine Dion ♥️ with Bee Gees singing backup. Song is Immortality!! ❤️
NOW you have to follow tis up with the Bar-Kays, "Freakshow on the Dance Floor" and Klymaxx's song "Meeting in the Ladies Room"... these songs kept the ladies on the floor back in the day
This takes me back to my younger days, going to the club. The second the DJ put this song on, the dance floor was full! Nobody was parking, everybody was movin' and groovin'!!
Can you imagine SOUL TRAIN when this came on? It is burned into my brain! ❤❤❤
Y’all gotta hear Slow Jam for a different vibe!🖖🏼
YES, YES, YES! Been waiting on Midnight Star!!! Everything they touched.......turned to gold back in the day. So happy to see you react to this highly underrated band. In my 50s now, sitting here with a huge smile as I remember being in high school dancing to this jam. They have a bunch of hits.
A Metal Head, blown away by this SOUND!!!!!
The reason it sounds like Dre is because the G Funk sound of the 90s came directly from the Post Funk era of the early 80s. Bands like Midnight Star, Zapp & Roger, Atlantic Starr & Lisa Lisa were directly where that sound came from. It all originated with the Funk sound of the 70s that was dominated by Parliament,Funkadelic, Bootsys Rubber Band etc.
I'm glad you guys picked my request! Awesome song. Thank you again.
Takes me back to my dancing days. Wish I could still move like that now lol
