  • In this video I highlight the need for lubricating / moisturizing the rubber parts across the suspension of the XK8.
    - Prevent rubber from cracking and failing
    - Prevent squeaks as the suspension components move across the road surface
    - Lubricate suspension components
    - Extend the life of your bushings and links

Off the Kilmer recommendation, I tried the AT-205 on reachable rubber gaskets (door/hood/trunk gaskets etc...) on a car a few years ago. Seemed a little expensive for such a small bottle and hard to find even in the US...had to order online.
I didn't notice a difference on the gaskets, I poured the rest in the motor to help a oil usage issue...didn't see a difference there either. I hadn't tried it in a spray bottle though.
Bought an old Corolla last year with horrible front end squeaks and sounds. Dealership wanted $1,500+ to replace ball joints etc...youtube told me to try Silicone grease. As you did here, I used a spray type because of the hard to reach locations of most of the parts needing lubrication.
The noise went away immediately. It did come back several months later ( 6 ? ) but a re-spray solved it again. Now, every so often I'll shoot a few squirts on all the parts and so far....no problems.

Ha! Thank you for sharing this context and your experience - it looks like I ended up using the more suitable product for the job without even realizing it :). I intend to do this a couple of times a year - once in the spring and once in the fall. It is easy to do and can't hurt.

Virtually all rubber bushings and grommets that are not in high heat producing areas could easily be replaced with 50 durometer polyurethane equivalents and they would last 100yrs. The main thing with rubber parts is to get them to retain their emollients by sealing the surface. I use both DC4 silicone grease and PB Blaster silicone oil. Do this as soon in their life as you can.

Thank you Gary, totally agree - the earlier in the life of the components this is done, the better! I looked into DC4 and PB Blaster. DC4 seems similar to the Mission Automotive Silicone Paste (Dielectric Grease) which I love and use mainly for the door seals. The problem with that product is that it attracts loose particles easily and they tend to stick (unless you wipe it off completely). PB Blaster silicone oil seems similar to the WD40 Specialist Silicone which I used in the video, I will try PB Blaster after the WD40 runs out.

Found it, tons of information! I see the Silicone spray mentioned in the "Cleaning and Protection" section. You are mentioning lots of various products for different tasks, I will be exploring those in further detail. Thank You!
