  • I wouldn't say this is the best rendition I've ever seen live and at one point Benoit stumbles on the lyrics, Oliver Wakeman on keyboard but DAMN, I am just happy they are still touring playing LOUD music I love!!

Oliver Wakeman seems to put more into duplicating the organ solo from the original song. That is kinda cool. Rick Wakeman wrote a lot of bits for the song, but the organ solo was written by Howe, so in the live versions, Rick played around with it a lot rather than getting those precise runs to sound chilling. This has a refreshingly spooky quality, like the original.

This is cool sounding...Yes Rules even in the 21st century...give Benoit David some slack...live performing is tough...I used to love The Who as my favorite group, and Roger Daltrey's voice during Love Reign O'er Me wasn't always the greatest live, and he is one of the all time greats singing in the studio...as long as Benoit sounds good in the studio, and Fly From Here is a very good album...

Benoit is an excellent addition to YES. Just listen to Fly From Here, it's brilliant and he is an amazing singer. This is not an official recording, how can you judge by it? All artists need to grow, circulate, follow muses, get new blood, etc. God bless Jon and Benoit.

Too me, Musicianship --- their what greatness is about! they don't come any better. *this recordings sounds like it might have been tapped off the matrix of the mixing board, I've yet to hear a really polished yes live mix with today's technology where the clarity of each instrument makes a wall of defined pronounced presence, always room ambiance, it's not as kind to recording live as outdoors is. hm I never heard Yes play outside, but thank you for your post, enjoyed it.

To hear these guys do this on the road at their age, with commitment and enthusiasm, is phenomenal.
I agree with some - tune's sketchy at spots - but if we're honest,
there were some sketchy parts in the studio cuts.
It's extremely difficult music to perform.
And just having it performed current and available is wondrous.
What I'm very thankful for is that - amongst 50¢-inspired, anti-utopian, abortions of music - these guys can still rock & affect the music world.

You're hearing the sound from a hand-held camera uploaded to youtube, not sound in the venue. It's not a sample worth judging. I saw them do this live in Pennsylvania last year, and the sound from the PA was some of the cleanest I've ever heard.

  • @DeadMikeConcertVideos
    @DeadMikeConcertVideos  13 років тому

@GuitarMasterizer It's after the show, they make you wait while they take care of the lesser package holders who just get tees and posters. then the group comes out for photos, bring your own camera. then they sit down for autographs and they move you along fairly quickly since it's kinda late and they are obviously tired... you have time for a few small comments during pictures and signing. i'm with you, i always get nervous and can only issue a few words of praise... Be sure to thank them :)

@mmatteo13 Humorously, when I did the meet & greet with Yes last year, I asked Steve for more distortion, "If y'all make an album together, can we get more distortion?" He chuckled. Personally, I'd like to see the dark side of yes with deep dark tones, kind of like how Machine Messiah starts but throughout the song. We shall see, we shall see....

Benoit struggles a little, which is quite understandable. It makes sense that his voice needed a break. I like him better than his replacement although his replacement, JD, does have a higher voice. I think Oliver is doing a great job. I love everything he does. I don’t think he is quite as good as Dad but awfully close! He’s as good looking too, lol. I’m so extremely they are still performing despite the imperfections.

As regards Benoit's voice, I have to disagree with the negative comments. Having listened to 'Fly From Here' I appreciate Benoit's voice to the point I can't imagine Jon Anderson singing on that album and it is now my second favourite album after Close To The Edge. Interestingly enough, I do find Jon's voice irritating, now, on some albums. In terms of this concert, yes, it is difficult to hit Jon's high notes - but that is only to be expected. Overall, a good effort by David.

The mix sound a bit different from where I was sitting. It is interesting to note. People here are pretty harsh with their comments. I can concede that Benoit's voice was off that night but everyone else was very much spot on, including Oliver Wakeman. I noticed how cynical the fans on these forums can be. Sure, it is always easy to criticise. I bet if the current line-up would agree to play for beers in any of these people's backyards they soon would forget their all of their nasty comments.

I admit i have Heard better versions of Close to the Edge with better keyboard sounds. But i have alot of respect for a keyboard player that gets this song even 70% right. It is a hard piece of music 1) learn to play 2) Play with the right sound. I think Wakeman did a good job. i don,t know what is up with the reverb on the vocals. sounds like there is none.

I've been a massive fan for 40 years. This is one of the messiest versions ( a relative term for Yes) I've ever heard. Perhaps it's just getting harder to maintain the focus. Having said that, I've seen this lineup on great form. How long can they continue? All things must come to an end sometime. But fantastic memories nonetheless.

I have followed Yes since the 1960's. The new guy Benoit is ok, but i think Anderson is much better and on tune. Sometimes it seems Benoit seems to crack and be a bit off. Maybe he can't carry the high notes like Anderson. They are very old now, and still playing. Steven Howe is the best. He can play chords and combinations like no other. In fact he is Yes. I played the guitar back in the days, but was never able to come close to his speed and dexterity with a guitar. Go Jon Anderson!!!!

I saw Oliver very early in his Yes career at the House of Blues in Cleveland, and I had to say, I was underwhelmed. I saw him later in Pittsburgh, and his confidence, technique and musicianship were phenomenal! He woulda made the old man proud. Then I learned that he was replaced by Geoff Downes. Don't get me wrong, I love Geoff, but he belongs in Asia, not a rehash of "Drama" Yes. I'm still very pissed. "Fly From Here" was a good album, in my opinion, but I was really starting to like Oliver!

Wasn't this the first show on the tour? I can understand why it's not as great as it should be. I've seen this lineup on three different tours where the engine is well past warming up, in gear and on fire. I've also seen the Classic line up in the last decade and they would have moments of brilliance and moments of "did they just do that? Greatest example, the opening night of the fall leg of Classic the Yes 2002 tour, Clearwater, FL. Even the classic line up in its latter years had uglyness.

I get fed up of hearing all the whining about Yes not being Yes without JA...Yes are just different now...and that is OK! (Listen to Mystery - Benoit Davids main band - and you will hear that, in fact, he is an excellent singer) "Yes" is the collective name for a whole bunch of truly outstanding musicians, who have come and gone over the years, but who are still making awesome music - if you can't get past JA not being in the band - simple... stop listening to them - and stop the whinging!

Jon's impersonator vocals were dreadful but the rest of the band created certain magic (especially Stevo) . @pushplay Odd, I thought the vocals actually started to improve at that point and were worse leading up to it. Benoit was holding the notes too long and over-stylizing to the point of being ridiculous. As far as the harmonies, keep in mind this is from a hand-held camera - hardly the source to properly discern any mix, good or bad. The tempo is probably driven by the Hammond solo, since nobody could play it with the speed RW did on Yessongs. Moraz didn't even try - he changed it.

No matter how hard I try, I always feel like this is fake. It wasn't "fake" when Anderson wasn't there for Drama...it was still Yes...but now, even with the "Drama II" line-up it feels like something is wrong. I think that it's something to do with Squire's attitude, but it seems like the chemistry isn't working here.
