Cheers mate, seen the US cut, a lot of years back would love to get it on Blu-ray. Just getting mixed messages from the Amazon reviews about the running time of the single blu-ray disc.
Hey guys! I have few questions about this set: 1 it is free region? 2 there is french audio for all movies? 3 do you know if there is the same edition on book set just like the Hitchcock version? (I hate amaray boxes) Tks a lot
I have all of these except Lolita and Eyes Wide Shut and those are both out of print normally so I’m going to have to pick this set up, at least it’s not that pricey. I have some of the other films in special editions so I’ll definitely be keeping those editions as well. Kubrick is easily my favorite filmmaker so I’ve got to get everything. Dr Strangelove criterion is another I’ll be picking up.
Looks like cool set. I want to get this set sometime but at the moment I'm saving up money for fixing my teeth so I'm not really blu rays at the moment.
I’m about to buy this an I’m extremely excited to watch my favorite movie A Clockwork Orange on Blu Ray. Especially because I have only watched it in dvd quality, and I have watched it like 15 times by now.
Nope, this is all blu-ray. This is a 7 year old video though, so there may have been a reissue or second printing that for some reason has DVDs. I have no knowledge of it though, but the set shown here is all blu-ray.
Yes it is the European cut, the US cut is 144 mins which is a damn shame, but the US cut is now available (only on blu ray and at HMV) in the UK, store.hmv.com/film-tv/blu-ray/the-shining-(hmv-exclusive) I did reverse double dip since I got the US cut of the shining first at HMV and later got the box set, the later issue box set I own is slightly more bare-bones (but still £25 at HMV) since it does not have the booklet, the spin is thinner and so is the outer card board but the disc content is the exact same with the same extras.
Oh and PS with the blu ray I had linked it does feature a DVD with it but that is the European cut and full screen (same content as the original 2001 DVD) but the blu ray is the US cut and (I guess) the UV code is also for the US cut.
just ordered this beauty off amazon for £20! Absolute bargain and although I generally prefer individual boxed discs as opposed to these thick collections, I can't say no to this plus this looks really sleek and stylish unlike some boxsets. Didn't even know about the additional documentary and booklet, so I'm very happy. Cheers for the insight
To good to ignore! I'm glad you mention that they're good transfers/ remastering because "the shining" was one of the first blu rays I watched the truly blew me away in regards to picture quality and converted me from dvd to blu ray...
It's crazy how cheaply you can get this, just got mine. I remember spending a fortune on these 10 years ago when they came on dvd.
Do all the boxsets come with the book? i just got mine in the post today and it had no book ???
Great review, is the running time for The Shining the US cut of 144 or the shorter Euro cut?
EPIC SET!!!!! You should do a review each film in the set when you watch them!

Hi, do you think they still sell the boxset at hmv? I'm going to London in a week and was hoping to find it there.
GEE, THX. i always wondered how it looks like inside
Does "The Shining" include subtitles in other languages than English?

It's always great to see a favourite film in HD for the first time!
Great, thank you!
It is a good box set.
There's also the masterpiece collection, which is really good, but takes up more room.
I just ordered this collection. Can't wait!
Supervillain Enjoy!
Thanks! But I must admit I feel worried about Lolita, A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon. I haven't seen these movies before. Did you like them?
Clockwork Orange is amazing, a very different kind of film though. Lolita is also very good. Not watched Barry Lyndon yet.
Oh good! Thanks
Hi i was reading online from other reviews that the box set contains only 2 blu rays and the rest are dvds is this true? cheers

My favourite the shining
I got this collection + Dr. Strangelove + Breaking Bad season 2 + Black swan for 30 bucks online. Best deal i've ever got.
I've seen them in hmv for around £30
just ordered it on Amazon for only £22.25!
Are these all blu ray
Yep, it's a blu-ray set! :)

No problem, enjoy it, that's an amazing price for so many great films. They all look fantastic too, particularly 2001 and The Shining :)
