** I really would have given you a 👍 if your damn link\pop-ups didn't cover up the video for the 20 seconds (1\3rd) of the video!
C'mon are you that hard up for the viewer's to go to the next one?
I liked the subject & video. But if I eventually watch another & it's going the same route.... I'll definitely block you!
I don't think you will have an "official" Thai stick. My first smoke---no lie---was Thai sticks in 1975. Had visual and aural quasi hallucinations. Much deeper and stronger than an ordinary cannabis high. The only thing similar was hashish, which was opiated in those days. I strongly suspect that the Thai sticks had opium in them too, so today's hash isn't really what hash used to be, and someone trying to make Thai sticks will not produce the same thing either.
I was getting real tai stick in the mid to late 70's. It was not a cigar. it was killer tai weed wrapped around a tiny stick using a very thin twine. I was also getting opiated tai stick, opiated black hash( block wrapped in colored foil with a stamp pressed into the front, could see the veins of opium when you cut into it. We also got blonde hash, hash oil, Acupulco gold that was 1 hit , panama red that was killer. I was blessed to have the right connections. I'm now in my 60's and still get the best, but those special items from back then are next to impossible to find today. To anyone on here who says it wasn't opium but trichomes doesn't know anything. I actually started tripping from smoking a bunch of opiated tai stick and I do know the taste of opium.
This is the truth…..that being said I make my own😊
Ahhh, the good old days, when weed had flavor and character.
I remember the opiated Thai being much more expensive than the Thai without it.
@kennethanway7979 I started smoking in the 2000s, but plenty of weed has flavour and character these days. Certinaly much more than when I started smoking.
Never had weed that literally tastes like candy before it was legal.
@@iunnox666 so true, but it seems to be that most weed today has been watered down by hybridization.
There ARE some fine examples of hybridization, such as Blue Dream, but I do miss pure strains.
Sometimes the highs were too strong back then.
Get a pure sativa and paranoia can kick in, or have you stuck on the couch for four hours without you even realizing it.
The weed is great overall today, but the strongest weeds that I have ever smoked were from back then.
Today's weed is more middle of the road which can be boring.
I just love how people who weren't even around in the 70's try to tell those of us who were teens in the 70's what was around and what it was like and it wasn't coated with opium. You could get tai stick ( incredible on it's own) and if you had the right connections, Opiated tai stick. It was around and I smoked it , anyone who contradicts wasn't there or you would know. I'm someone who lived it so phonies will be exposed. The cigars are a new version but not the original tai stick from the 70's.
Yeah I remember, the smell the taste of sweet grape,on the thais I burned a lot of it ours was tied on bamboo sticks.2 kinds like you said one no opium .I still chase that smell and taste on my flowers.
Panama Red Columbian gold red bud
would you like to join us on air so you can share your experiences??
@@coughcountrynews946 not at the moment but in a few days
I started smoking in 1974. Thai stick was common in New Orleans (being a major port city helped. Hawaiian bud (Maui Wowie, etc) multiple Columbian strains, Panamanian strains, Oaxacan strains, etc. Some of that herb left you comatose for days. You could get cheap Mexican herb for $5 an ounce. Ounce of primo for &12 an ounce ( which crept up to $15-$20-$25 an ounce in just a couple of years. We cried when a lb jumped from $90, to $110.
I had real Thai Stick decades ago, and they weren't as you describe. They were Thai buds, tied tightly to the stem with hemp string, about ten sticks to the oz for $300. That was when regular brown weed was $90 a quarter pound, or $40 an oz. They weren't a cigar or anything at all like a blunt, but were the best thing you could get for decades.
we used to get thai stick for a dollar a gram. a 5 gm thai stick cost $5.00. but personally, i prefered the hash we used to get.
Yeah man didn't need scale's back then either. Nickel and dime bags,3 finger lids. Great times and the kids these days think they have the best weed. They shit their selves if they ever smoked real Thai.
I don't know where you guys were, but in Utapou final days Papasan would change a dollar a stick. Universal price.
The kind I made were wrapped in banana leaf. I read that's what they used in Thailand...didn't know they used bamboo twine. This was literally 2 decades ago...man the times lol
And the seeds, when they had one were HUGE, and had a dark lightening strike pattern. Mine usually came tied with red or green silk threads.
Video should be titled " start of a new kind of tai stick" the old tai stick from 70's was quite different
hey rob....a week from monday we are doing a deeper dive on this due to the overwhelming response......stay tuned and thanks for jumping in
Totally different 😊
@coughcountrynews946 you should definitely include the part in up in smoke (?) Where cheech and chong are dealing with thai stick. Hint: It's wasn't a cannagar.
My mom would have to agree with you!@@owenbruce4120
Mushrooms did wonders in my life. Over the course of my life, I've suffered from uncontrollable, depression, anxiety, alcohol, smoking, and illicit pills addiction. Imagine carving heavy chains for a long time and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. This is something that really needs to be used globally to help people with similar health challenges. I've been sober for 6 years and have my life back.
Congrats on your recovery. Most people don't realize that psilocybin can be used as a miracle medication to save lives.
To be honest, mushrooms are one of the most amazing things on the planet and it is natural, they serve in many ways not only for mental related issues.
Can you help me with a reliable source? I have suffered from years of addiction, anxiety, and severe ptsd, thinking I got my panic attacks under control, they've come back with a vengeance, and I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't. It's absolutely crippling me, I'm in Australia and it is hard to get a reliable source here. Really need!
Yes, Sporeville. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and addiction... Mushrooms definitely made a huge difference to why I'm clean today.
I wish they were readily available in my place.
Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He's 59 & has many mental health issues plus probably CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone.
He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD knows if it is common for an obsession with violence.
So when I was a kid growing up in Florida in the 80's my best friend was from California. His dad was a big stoner and we used to sneak pot from him. So one time His dads buddy came to Florida from California. We knew he brought something good cause they were burning it up. So we snuck into his dads room and he had 2 small garbage bags in his closest filled with bud that the guy brought over from Cali. One bag was full of the brightest green stinkiest Humbolt skunk I had ever seen. Amazing! The other was choclate thai sticks. I had never seen, smelled, or tasted anything like it. That was 38 years ago, and I have never seen it again since.
thanks CJ....its like you read our mind. back in the day we got it like 2 times and we called it "El Chocolate"....I think we're locked in on the same ting
Hope you lit the stick afterwards. Good Times😎
Dude I used to buy Thai sticks back in the f****** early 80s in Sacramento when I was like f****** 12 and 13
🎶 Memories, like the pages of my mind ....
Still see them occasionally, here, in the Netherlands. So I'm sure they never stopped making them, we just don't import them as much anymore. With the advent of the domestic western cannabis industry the last couple of decades, there's just not as much demand anymore. Last I've seen them was last year, but I'm not exactly actively looking. I'm sure they'll keep popping up from time to time, here.
Turned 18 in cali. Smoked a Thai stick on my birthday. We all sat around for the next few hours not really doing much. We all hit it again and spent another few hours not doing much again.
Here in Australia they were called Buddha sticks. They were never wrapped around bamboo but a stick from the plant itself, with a strand of fibre also taken from the plant (makes sense right, why would you use bamboo when you had everything you need right there). 😊.
Called Buddha sticks in NZ too.
I have seen some with a sliver of bamboo in the middle.
Unraveling the string reminded me of unraveling a string of fire crackers.
You had to find the end to get it started.
Mid 70s Australia Buddha sticks some opiumated some oil A mate had family over there $2 I would pay 200 for one now
I saw thousands of them in bundles that needed to be steamed to separate them ,,as far as I remember it was a thin slither of bamboo ,with bud wrapped around it and tied with a fine stand of fibre from the plant ,,,,early 70s.
@@keithhowell4138 okay.
I visited NSW in 1979 and just missed the Buddha sticks. I traveled into Mullumbimby with my Aussie friends hoping to rub elbows with a local but no dice. We bought a half pound of real decent Aussie grown weed in Sydney and had it stuffed in the caravan for three months. Made a lot of friends with that weed. Boy was NSW pretty then. The population was 14 million in the whole continent as I recall. It was your winter and the weather was superb. Good cheap beer, steaks and king prawns then.
I used to buy em for 15 bucks a stick from the Japanese guys at the LA cut flower district where I worked in 1976. It was one hit wonder, a space trip. Very economical too!
one stick went a long way...lol
Smoked a joint of Thai when I was 13 in 73. Me and my buddy were obliterated to the point of paralysis for half a day. We skipped school and smoked around 9:00 AM I was still stupid past noon. If you can get it, hold on to your junk and take a deep toke.
I have the same story, I was 13 in 73 , and it took 3 of us to buy one but it was worth it!😊
@@andrewfeltz9445 you right. When we entered the country 3 on a stick was too much. On the average when we left country we could do a stick a person. No lie I was there brother.
I remember reading about Thai Stick online in 2003... I was 14 and ended up making my own with my own homemade hash oil....made 2 friends never smoke again and til this day they still don't smoke LMFAO. I wrapped mine in banana leaf though. Just how I read it was done back then. Tbh I don't blame them...all 5 of us were literally stuck after smoking that and barely moved for 2 hours. My friend was so gone he left a hot lighter on my arm for like 3 minutes and I sat there just staring at him until I finally said "what are you doing". I still have the scar. I miss getting my friends blitzed. I quit smoking at 28 though.
When I came over with the hash, if anyone else came by with their own wanting to smoke us out everybody what like "nah you can smoke that by yourself, we're already ripped". All I was doing was a basic ISO wash with 2 zones.
Parents would come home like "why does the kitchen smell like rubbing alcohol" 😂😂😂
You must have grown up in St. Clair Shores! I quit when I was 15 and started again 3 years ago at 60 yrs. old. @@Unmaleable

In Cali in the late 70s early 80s we often procured Tai stick straight off the boats. Was a good time. Nuff Said
Yea buddy, I grew up in HB in the 70s. What a great time. Not just the thi but the hash that was available and even better, the oil. Honey oil was amazing. 🤩
Me and 4 friends smoked a joint of Thai in the mid 80's. Came from California, was not a cigar, but bud wrapped around a stick. We all were so fried for several hours Lol, I still remember the taste mmmmm
Thai sticks were quite popular in our area in the 70s. Traded one of them for 3 hits of acid at a CS&N concert once.
Groovy Man
I remember them as a block of individual sticks that held buds. You would slowly unwrap a bud and smoke it. They were about 5 to 6 inches long.
This is what they actually are
Could you pull out the stick & smoke it like a joint or did you have to break it up?
@@TURK_182 the one I've seen you could put it in a blunt and pull the stick out, probably had to reroll, probably smokes better pulled off and ground up though..... I've only seen one in person once and the guy was going to a concert and couldn't grind/roll at the venue

Shoot man. 1976 was the last time i seen the originals, fresh from the countryside. 😅
I was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam war, the grass there was freaking amazing, as good as anything you can get now!
A college buddy of mine, around 1974, had what he called a thai stick. It wasn't cigar like. It was a long, dense top as best as I can describe it, possibly from Thailand - who knows. It was with out a doubt the second best weed I've ever smoked. The best was a hooter my golf buddy pulled out on the way home from the course. Said he'd been saving it a long time because it was the last he had of it. I don't know what the special occasion was that day for him to share it but...damn. This was well before it was legal, in the late 90's.
I doubt it.
Hands down Panama Red and Thai stick were and still is the best weed I've ever smoked my first time was1969

Back in the 60's when guys would come home from Asia they'd sometimes bring some back. I remember it had a flavor all it's own, and a mega buzz.😮😅
They weren't cigars in any way, it was killer brownish sticky buds that were tied together with thin twine. Like others here have said you could also get it dipped in opium and hash oil. I'm 65 and remember that like it was yesterday!
thanks Michael....would you be willing to join us for a sequel that we are doing a week from this coming monday....taking a deep dive and we want all the experts we can get
You must be talking about the red ones?
Back in the day a Thai Stick was pot on a wooden skewer that had been dipped in opium. Guys came back from Viet Nam with it. I've never heard of your cigar thing.
We were surfing in Baja in about 1972. Some guys pulled up in a cherry VW Westphalia bus. They paddle out and ask us if we had any weed because the Nam pot they had didn't work anymore. Turns out the owner of the bus had bought it before being drafted and stored it in his pop's garage. All we had was some Mexican dirt weed but the guy traded us some of ours for his. Best trade we ever made. He claimed he got higher on our crap than his wonder weed.
When I was younger in the70s and 80s
The best high I have ever had .
Now I'm wanting some ❤
Same here!
In the 70s growing up in central Fla I was introduced to the “tie stick” from a great person in my church coming back from his deployment in Vietnam. And as a favor I introduced him the the Gainesville Green of UF area.
Oh those were some great memories of days gone by!
good stuff Ronald
Spell check got me again. “Thai” was the intent. Go figure.
wow what a blast from the past
I have a friend who grew up in Thailand, and I asked him if these were indeed from his country. He said they were, and in the early 1980s, the sticks went for $5, US.
Ah,this takes me back to the 70s. Lost many a lazy day to the Thai stick
Good memories from the early 70's with the Thai stick!! Had a great source to get them in San Clemente CA back then! Smoked some with Jose Feliciano in his sound studio in New Port Beach or maybe it was in Laguna beach 🤷! but it was great!
I believe that the white veins you mentioned were actually mold from the hash not being properly pressed and the small amount of moisture turned into mold
yep that is it, opiums black anyway......
interesting user
I had Thai Stick, back in the 80's. I took a hit, and couldn't move for 23 minutes. i was stuck for real! It had a piece of bamboo I had to remove first. i had regular Thai Weed back then, too. I was too high that day, too.
Around 1972 we started getting Thai stick, but it was rare. It was very gummy and you could really only smoke it from a bong. I remember it was wrapped around a bamboo twig and had only a seed now and then. Other memorable strains were Matanuska Thunderfuck, Belizean Breeze, Lambsread from Jamaica, Maui Wowui and Malawi Cobb. Those were the days...not to mention Temple Ball, Napali, Sheepshead and Elephant Ear hash.
I can remember getting Hawaiian sinsemilla that came sealed in Dole Pineapple cans, in the 70's. One or two hits, was all I needed.
That's funny ..my dad s buddy who has since passed told me he was part of a group of growers for one if the 3 lettr5 Alphabet groups. And said they use to ship it in Dole pineapple cans.
Yep. For real. It was really good weed. Extra special for back in them days. I remember it well. I lived in the Chicago suburbs at the time.@@dajoepizaione4072
Hey Kirbygator, Aloha from Maui. You may not believe this brah but I was one of a few working at what was then Maui pineapple Company. Sat at either the canning or cover feeding machines that would then seal the cans and remove air same time. Course the cans entering machine to be covered were full of pine & juice. At a certain time a few cases of cans filled with the best sativa sinsemilla from up-country would arrive, to be placed in between real cans to be sealed, marked with a color pen, sealed, then removed and placed back in box. Guess I helped to spread joy & happiness!
@@AKM201 lol That's an excellent story! Yeah, it was good quality. I lived in the Chicago area at the time. It was a treat. One hit, and you were good for a minute. lol
I made something similar to this but instead of hash oil I used pure opium that I had harvested 2 weeks prior. I just heated that up enough to melt it onto the bud. Now that was a good smoke.
Torrance California 1975 OMG it seemed like that was all we smoked...alllllll the time. I was only there for the summer visiting family, but holy crap do I remember the summer of 75 like no other. it didn't look like the pictures in this video, it just looked like the bud tied to a bamboo stick, but you knew you were getting the bud the best part of the plant, every single time : )
Isla Vista was dispensing heaps of it.
What a great blast from the past ! Yes this was "a story to tell my friend" ! 👍
Thai stick wasn't a cigar or coated with anything. It was pure normal cured badass Thai weed wrapped with silk thread on a small flat bamboo scewer and was bundled in dozens stacked together like a small brick.
That made them flatter and oval not round because of the basically brick/bundle of sticks.
The length was up to over half a foot but people would clip themselves a inch or two and most people got short ones by the time they went through a few hands.
It was as strong as anything now and there was always bs rumors it was dipped in opium it was so strong especially because we didn't know what trichomes were because there would be white sugar looking trichome crystals all over it. High Times has pics of the old Thai Stick they use to put in the centerfold poster. We had plenty of it in Florida way back. You would almost never find any seeds but I found a couple and grew Thai weed from it, tall Thai sativa back in the Sinsemilla days which is what they called female unpollinated flower back then.
Kona Bud from Hawaii was one of the best also back then that wasn't seeded. Hawaii and Thailand had it going on way back before California but Humboldt kicked in big time and dominated with Florida right behind them!
You are correct but I have to question the trichomes being the sugary substance. The sticks we were getting in L.A. in the late 1970s and early '80s would have it or not have it and the ones that had it was definitely a white substance that wasn't part of the weed itself. It was the same as the Napelese fingers of black oil based hash that was coming in and it was rolled about the diameter and length of your pinky finger and if you sliced it lengthwise and opened it there were white stripes of opium ribbons running through the hash. Same stuff as what was on the Thai sticks. There were also the Buddah or Elephant sticks which were really fat in diameter and super stoney.
Back then is when the big fat leafed bright green Indica buds were appearing and purple buds that were almost black with the white trichomes all over. The indica had no red hairs or anything just sick buds.
We used to get our weed when my roommate and I were selling, from a friend who would drive from LA to Humboldt and bring back pounds and this was like 1987 or so and ¼lb would be in a seal - a - meal vacuum packed pouch with a 8x8 square label inside and it would say "Tri County Growers Humboldt CA " and it has a drawing of the old Keep On Truckin guy with a big sack over his shoulder and he's walking up towards you up a mountainside and behind him in the air was a helicopter and below were cop cars and then under the drawing it said
"One Step Ahead Farms weight 113 grams As You Like It"
. We were getting a couple of those a month and then one day it dawned on us that we should keep one of those labels because one day they aren't gonna be around anymore. So my buddy still has one and luckily because that was the last time we could get that weed.
I bet there are some people up North or around here in LA who might remember those ¼ lbs with the labels.
The old man was in Malaysia during Vietnam/Korea on r&r to Thailand he said high up in the mountains he was there with the thais.... basically he was saying a field of ganga grew right by a field of opium poppies due to mountains making wind there is cross pollination that's what the ganja Thai sticks are made of he said
I was getting tai stick in the mid 70's and it was kickass, but also got opiated tai stick and opiated black hash, hash oil, which is why I chuckle when they say weed is so much stronger these days. Stuff we got back then was as good if not better, if you knew the right people. I would always run into people with weed that was crap so if thats what you got back then I could see how you would think todays weed is stronger. It's all about connections, some had it ,alot did not. It was absolutely opium, not trichomes, so I'm sorry but you are 100% wrong about the coating.
@@robboid --- I was pretty young when I started smoking weed and my older sister's boyfriends and friends would always ask if I wanted to get high and I would always ask what kind of weed do they have and if it wasn't something good I would say no thanks. I was a connoisseur of weed in the late sixties and early seventies and Thai sticks were everywhere within a certain distance of an Air Force base in Delaware. Stashed in Body Bags with Herion and cash and whatever was valuable at the time.

When I first got into Marijuana my mom born in the 60's told me about something called "Thai Stick". It sounded amazing even then! :)
The first time I enjoyed a Thai stick was in a parking lot by a concert hall in my home state (NJ) before a Grateful Dead show in 1972. I was soaring by the time the Dead were on stage, but it was an outstanding trip! This was one of those shows when the Dead played until the very early morning, some of the show was released on CD 1998 (Dick's Picks Vol. 11), I was one of the cheering voices in the crowd.
Hah, like the Hot Tuna concerts. They used to go on it the wee hours of the morning
I would love to try some of that .
I have heard stories about the legendary Thai Stick .
That was the original two hit what to fuck .

Thanks for clarifying! I've made some but didn't know about the cure and second layer and cure in cold. Now I have a new mission! I'm on it!! ✌🤠🤙
The Thai stick we smoked when my ship ported in Pattaya Beach in 1976, still stands as the absolute, without-a-doubt, best marijuana I have ever smoked! That includes today's high-concentrate pot! After my ship left Thailand, Thai stick could be had for a price until it ran out a few weeks later!
Wow ... I remember Thai Stick from back in the 70's. The only difference from your description was that I was under the impression that they got soaked in an opium solution, not hash oil.
I was under the same impression
They weren't soaked in opium or hash oil. They were sticky resinous bud dried to the bone. But still sticky.
I guess I will be the one who sets the record straight. In the 70's in Cali Thai Stick was readily available for $15 a stick, it was usually wrapped around a bamboo stick with hemp "string" that was like thread. It was not dipped in anything! It didn't need anything on it as it was extremely potent, anyone who has smoked the real stuff in the 70's or early 80's will probably consider it among the best herb they have ever consumed
It tasted like primo black hash and "Expanded" in your lungs unlike anything we get today. Fuckin amazing genetics that are never to be enjoyed again. Unfortunately organized crime moved into the "Golden Triangle" in the 80's and made the marijuana farmers switch to growing opium poppies as there is more money in Heroin than cannabis. And it seems that the seeds containing those precious genetics are not being used in present day cannabis production in Thailand. I get frustrated when I hear people mistakingly claim that the sticks were dipped in "opium". Think about the consistency of opium and it's obvious that it's too thick to dip a Thai Stick in, also who in the hell would dip weed into an opiate? The opium is treasured by its users and too valuable to waste on such nonsense
Anyway I hope you all have a great life and now you know the Facts about the infamous "THAI STICK"

Around 1972 I had friends returning from their service in Vietnam and there were sticks everywhere. They were were spiral wrapped with a thin thread. What fun times those were. There was also Vietnam weed coming back in 'decks', or parallel stacks of pre rolls. There was good weed coming from everywhere but here. Thank you.

Haven't have it come around once in my life in the 80s . Loved ThaiStick.
Remarkable
Just last night i was talking to a neighbour's son about this exact herb 👊😎👍
Coincidence?
Memories 🇬🇧
Cool story bro! 👉🏾👍🏾
lol
The first time I tried Thai stick was in the 90s and it blew my fucking head off. Just some outstanding sticky bud on a tall skinny stem
thats dope Mr.Miffy .... thanks for contributing
Most thai stick was covered in opium not hash oil that's why it was so good.
@freeagent4lyfe What?
@@bane2886 thai stick was covered in the equivalent to heroin. So if any boomer tells you it was better back in their day they were a smack head.
I am 65 and in 70’s I bought an oz of Thai Stick in Bartlesville Oklahoma. Love them. First and only time I had them.
I am so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to indulge in multiple varieties of Thai from red or rust color to green, blonde, chocolate, and even the stick. The chocolate that I had was the color of dark chocolate literally, and the blonde was literally golden blonde.

What happened to Hash? Haven't seen it in years?
Not real hash anyways.
we've recently seen old school hash in dispensaries in Maine
There's more than one method to making hashish. More than one type of hashish. Ask any Asian dope dealer.
🎉
Teenager in the 70’s and never been as stoned to this day as I was from some of the Thai Buddha sticks. Top shelf ! … once the hydro appeared on the scene it seemed to be the end of the Thai sticks and hash and the search began for quality bush bud.
I spent a long weekend in Amsterdam a few years back trying as many top shelf strains and imported hash as I could squeeze in over four days. On my last morning before heading to Schiphol, I popped into the 420 cafe and bought a gram of leafy, imported Thai that was listed as only 9% thc for what I thought would be a light buzz before catching my flight home. The smoke wasn’t much like the Thai sticks we bought in Minneapolis in the 70’s, but turned out to be the best flower I tried all weekend. Forget thc percentages.
Thai sticks beginning about 40 years ago ...
Thai cannabis genetics and form of packaging them that was only used in Thailand too!
Thai sticks were commonly partaken of during the Viet Nam war when US troops got R and R to Thailand and became legend in the US by returning troops about 1968-70...that's more than 40 years. 😂
Cheech and Chong's comedy routines mentioning them on their " vinyl albums " and live stand up was from a few years
after that.
Owned a copy of "Big Bambu", old enough to remember😊
Now I had about 3,000 kilograms in my house but I don't know where to sell it..? Who bought it??...
more like 50 years ago
@@robboid kids lol
My old high school bud was drafted in 1969 but instead of going to Viet Nam he was sent to Germany where he discovered the opiated hash which he flattened out and mailed back to his mother's home in the states. His mother never questioned all the letters she received addressed to him and stuck them all in a box for him to 'read' when he got out of the Army and came home. Needless to say Ruben was very popular and I sure wish I had some right now!
"What's a 'Tied' stick?"
"It's that stuff that's tied to a stick, man!"- C&C
Those don't look like the Thai Sticks we got in the early 80s.
yeah the shit you got in the 80s was garbage.
@@Benjamin_Gellman All your doing is exposing yourself as someone who doesn't have a clue. I lived through it and always got killer 1 hit stuff from mid 70's through the 80's , maybe you got garbage but those of us who had good connections got the good stuff
Your right, the mid 70's into 80's was not a cigar, was tai buds on a little stick wrapped with twine. Nothing in the video was accurate, I know , I lived it.
lol
The Thai sticks that I was smoking in the late 1970s and early 1980s were a couple different types and styles.
They both were a golden brown sticky buds tied tightly to a bamboo stick with super fine thread not a big string. There were sticks about the size in length and diameter of your finger. The weed was super stoney, and sometimes it would have a white powder very lightly coating and it was said to be opiated. Not sure it was true but it got you real high.
Then there was the Buddah or Elephant sticks which were even stronger weed and the diameter of the the stick was the siz of a quarter or bigger. When you weighed it out a piece the length of about 3 inches weighed a quarter ounce. I had one one time and I was breaking some ofg the stick to roll a joint and there was a large red ant in the bud dead. It must have eaten its way into an overdose. Hahahaha
We tried to take a regular tie stick and we pulled the stick out of the center and that left a hole all the way through so we rolled it up in a paper to make a joint and tried smoking it that way. It worked for a couple of hits but the hole clogged and the paper hurned faster than the weed so it didn't work very well.
Aaahhhh the good old days.
😄
13....we are doing a deeper dive a week from monday.....would you be interested in joining us on air to share your experience?
@@coughcountrynews946 --- I appreciate your offer but I'm not interested in participating. Thank you though.
I have a very crazy work schedule that I'm on call 24 hours and I have a hard time scheduling anything. The money is worth it for the trouble
I am from Cali back in 1984 I had a friends older brother who was in the bay area working San Fran Oakland and when he came back from he brought back some Thai stick I coughed and couldn't stop for a while and the taste and exhale of that oke was like nothing around southern Cali or Humboldt strains it was a smell of this erotic spice smell that's hard to describe and never had it again..
Back in the middle to late 70's, I was dating a disc jockey and we'd go to our local record store where he got the most amazing Thai stick and flower tops. Best I ever had.
you would have to go to thailand.
Yeah that new version of Thai stick looks waaay different than what I can remember. We used to score at 40 Mark Park in Frankfurt Germany in the late 70;s. It was just a very sticky type of weed on bamboo sticks wrapped with a silk thread, very sweet and pungent smell. Nothing like the video at all, but times change and so do methods I guess. I'm sure it's very good stuff.
I also loved in Germany about that time a can remember some of the best hash ever in my life!!
Green morphine hash
Yup, I used to smoke that one all the time when I lived in Schweinfurt and Wurzburg. I was there from '77 till '80, Morphine Green, and do you remember one called Moroccan Double 00 ? Where were you stationed bro? I was there for almost 8 years as an Army brat then I joined up with the Field Arty for a couple of years and was at Wiley Kaserne in Neu Ulm. I was in a Pershing nuke unit and they sort of frowned on that kind of thing. But I had a blast!@@brucejones8749

Yeah, sounds interesting. How do I contact you? I am retired now so I have a lot of free time, and a lot of stories about the scene over there during the 70s and early 80s.... @@coughcountrynews946
Youngster you are so far from reality its not even funny. Enough with the BS information about Thai Sticks
The old man told me ganja was grown right below opium fields and as the wind crept down the mountain there was this magical cross pollination the small white hairs would be blown off the poppies onto the ganja
Now that's a good story. Complete fairy tale but well written.
invitation extended to Misha....we are doing a second take on this story and we want you to join us on air to help us understand what you know. Would you join us?
I have pretty much already shared what I know on the subject so I will respectfully decline the invitation I set a terrible example of Hedonism, drug abuse and general debauchery on a worldwide scale. LOL...
If your interested in learning more High Times did a story in the 80's that explained Polyploid, Diploid Cannabis and how it relates to Old School Thai Weed's wonderful strength. I am sure the article can be found with a little searching.
Last week I read about 2 Cannabis seed breeders who are attempting to modify Seed so it has multiple sets of genes like the Old School Thai Sounds good in theory but I see one large problem If some extractor takes Old Thai quality flower and extracts it to say 80% it will be stronger than Heroin IMHO. There is potential for problems. In my area the strongest strains are often all purchased for the extraction companies to use. Google for the Seed Breeders I don't remember where I found them.
Those breeders are most likely using Colchicine to achieve this It is dangerous stuff if used incorrectly Read up on this its used more than we realize.
A few years ago I was reading an article in USA Today about GMO Afghani Poppy seeds that finished is 11 weeks vs the normal 22 weeks. 20 minutes on Google and I had the seeds on the way to me from a USA source The seeds performed as promised with the correct Alkaloid content. No doubt done with Colchicine as part of an Afghani project. No wonder the Opium yield is up for Afghanistan year over year.
Good or bad GMO is the future.
I will need to check these out when I am in Thailand in 6 months time.
This is one of the rare things that got rare as time passed. I have managed to get Thai stick about 6 times in 40 years. The last time was 15 years ago.
And yes I still get stoned.
I tasted Thai stick in 1982, I was 24. It was available for like two weeks. By far the best I've ever smoked. It was sticky black tar granules about a quarter of an inch thick. Coated around a bamboo stick about as thick as a tooth pick and tied up with a bamboo thread. And after that 2 week treat, I never saw it again. Had to cut it up with scissors in order to get it manageable to where you could roll it. YUM.
We always took pipe hits and corked it after a hit to save it.
We used to get them here in australia in the 70’s and into the 80’s😉. A beautiful high👍
My US Navy ship, the USS Brewton, visited Pattaya Beach in 1979 and some of the crew took the bus to Bangkok to stay in the Playboy Hotel. We hired a cabbie and went sightseeing. Our final stop was a private club where the girls were behind a glass wall. You picked a number and got acquainted (they wore red numbered buttons on their evening dresses). Only one of our four new girlfriends spoke English. We told her we needed some Ganja, and I was told to see Mama San at the bar. She showed me an old Muriel cigar box full of Thai Sticks. I bought three for $1.50 USD. We took the girls and the sticks back to the room and got toasted. I am pretty sure this was dipped in Opium. The sticks we purchased looked nothing like the ones pictured here. The Ganja was much darker in color, and the bamboo stick it was tied to was stained dark also. We had purchased a pipe earlier in a local shop. Needless to say, we were all glued to the furniture afterwards! The girls did not touch it, but they were disappointed that we did not take them out on the town that evening. This Yo Yo obviously has never been to Thailand, or if he has, was just smoking weed on a stick! Stupid Tourist!
I might add that things have changed a bit from the '70's when I visited Thailand, primarily the police force in tourist towns like Pattaya Beach and greater Bangkok. The Thai government is cracking down on drug use and the police are hiring Aussie, English and American Ex-Pats to help with enforcement. Buyers beware!
The last time I had something called "Thai stick" was in 1979.
It was amazing.
Later, people were selling what we called "tied on a stick", good but not nearly as tasty.
I now live in Thailand and am on a quest to find that magical bud.
We shared a Thai stick with some GIs in the 70s on a medievial graveyard in Germany in the dark. Suddenly a bell was slowly ringing. once - twice - three times and so on until twelve! All of a sudden the army men ran away. It scared the sh.t out of them. Ha ha ha good stuf though!
got some type of thai stick in the mid 90s... Odd stuff too, ran into some Jamaicans around Oklahoma City and in the 90s that was rare. Walked up to me outside a 7-11 and asked for a rolling paper and then asked if i wanted to buy one. Saw the guy again about 8 years later walking into a club late night but i didnt go up to talk to him.
I grew up in Hawaii in the early 70's and the sailors would bring them back from over seas and it was some of the most tasty herb I have ever had the privilege to smoke...Rolled and tied with hemp strands and sometimes opium was coating the bamboo stick before they put the weed on it...Trust me, this was amazing smoke on every level and get this, each stick sold for $20.00 US and back in 1971 $20.00 dollars was a lot to spend, but well worth it...We also had Maui Wowie, Puna Butter, Panama Red, Elephant and Kona Gold, all locally grown and again amazing...And don't get me started on the Hashish and the Hash Oil back then, the Hash Oil was primo stuff and the Blonde Lebanese Hash was, again amazing...Damn I wish I had some now.
I used to love getting Thai sticks back in the 60-70s. They were made of super quality, sweet tasting weed. It always amazed me how they meticulously tied them to the stick in a helicoil pattern.
We used to get the original land race skunk out of Mendocino county that made the whole room smell like skunk when you opened the bag! It was still all indica.
HOLY SMOKES i forgot about these! I used to be the guy to bring them up, kinda like an urban legend. I always wanted one.
Opiated Tai stick is the original real deal. Smoked it in a Proto Pipe. I'm 66 years old and my uncle still has his Proto pipe. He's 81.

I got friendly with some locals when I stayed in Thailand back in the early 90’s. Young and goofy, I sent them some stuff when I got home, jeans, trainers, boxing gloves and stuff. They new I was a stoner and no doubt I was played a bit but I returned a year later. I brought my GF and was chuffed by our welcome but what really touched me was being given a Thai stick. It really was like being given the holy grail!
I saw tai sticks once. In 1992 after a Grateful Dead show at friend house tripping balls. I stared at them for what seemed hours. Good trip and good times.
Sat on my best friend’s parent’s roof overlooking the San Francisco Bay on his 21st birthday smoking thai stick rolled with hash oil watching the planes land at SFO. We stayed up there for hours, we still talk about that night.
Awesome story soda
A few made their way to western NC in 74/75 so its already off my bucket list. But thanks for the memory lol
I'm a 71yrs old head that loved what I call the glory days of pot. Now there are hundreds of killer strains, back then we were wowed by Acapulco Gold, Meshmekan (pardon spelling,we didn't know how to spell it back then either) and once upon a blue moon, Thai Stix. My personal fave was some Napelese Temple Balls. Looked like pool balls.
Got a dozen of them in the mail n the 70’s. Took one to a party, everybody got so blown away, they all got confused and went home….😂
Nice! I always wondered about this "Unicorn" called the Thai Stick - very informative.
In the 70's in my teens we had Thai stick come thru our area once and everybody was raving about it, but only a few got a chance to try those tasty buds. But on a more regular basis we got Columbian Gold, which was some great stuff my friends. Smooth, happy high, mind blowing stuff - the best!
I remember customs having a big bust of Thai Sticks on a ship off Australia, you could buy Sticks for months afterwards.
I had a friend who was in the Navy. I should not have to say more. It was incredibly good 👍
Yup...I live here in Florida... And yes... back in the 70s it was all the rage near the University of Florida in Gainesville
Amen brother i grew up smokeing gold red an tei stick remember the hash too. Opium i smoked threw a bambo water pipe. The good ole days😊😊😊
64 yrs old. And The Stick was wicked. Last time smoked it was before a Rainbow concert. I also remember getting hash oil in those little coke vials. Take a toothpick and draw a few lines on the rolling paper and wait awhile to roll one.
We'd put a few drops in a spoon ,heat it lightly and mix our Columbian weed in it. Thus the term Columbian Oilers.
My mom told me about Thai sticks being around in the 70s-80s. Not many people know about them now a days.
I was so lucky to be friends with a dude when I was stationed at Ft Richardson Alaska in 81-83. He said hey you ever had any Thai Stick I said whats that? Man I dont remember what happened after that. I was so high. AK Rocked.
Grew up in Baltimore in the 70's that stuff was everywhere
My old man used to wax lyrical about Thai stick when he was over there in the early 70's as a young man. I would love to try it.
