Kerry, every Christmas my mom would cook what she called a New England boiled dinner. It was boiled ham, cabbage, and potatoes. But, the weird part is that we would pour vinegar all over it! Needless to say I don’t eat it anymore. Another weird combo is a friend eats Captain Crunch with Mac n Cheese powder all over it. Ewww! Kerry I loved loved loved 🥰 your book one of the best autobiographical books I’ve ever read. Thank you for sharing your truth with us all. Your book helped me move past something I was holding on too. I just love you Kerry. Best wishes ❤
Jolly Ranchers and Pickles? Woah. lol.... I feel Kerry and Kelly on the Oatmeal Cookies and cheese. My family ate the same kind of snack. As for cheese sandwich with jelly, we ate toasted cheese bread with jelly or honey. Folks in the neighborhoods where I grew up, and even some of the corner stores, ate/sold a big pickle with peppermint stick in the middle. We also ate/bought plain potato chips with pickle juice poured onto it. Hahaha... we ate a lot of pickles. I also remember eating nacho cheese sauce on Flaming Hot Cheetos.
It’s crazy that this is the first time an interviewer didn’t make the interview about the name they usually bring up. Thank you Queen Kerry, because this is great! Kelly you are a national treasure!! ❤
The best interview I’ve ever seen with Kelly Rowland. An interview where they are asking her about her and not Beyoncé. Kelly is her own woman and strong woman, successful in her own right. Thanks for allowing us to see HER!
Kelly should definitely make a movie about her early days. DEFINITELY!!! "Once upon a time there was a girl who lived on a boulevard with a red rocking chair and a big dream... "
Kelly has so MUCH talent and she's a much more grounded person, than I think she knows and you can hear it in this conversation. She's has much more talent than people give her credit for, she's really a "STANDOUT/BOSS". Here's wishing her continued success in whatever she choose in life.
I'm actually grateful for this episode because, truth be told for years, Kelly was presented to the world like she had no real identity or start of her own. I know as fans we know her, but it always seemed like she had no family, and it was just Tina and Matthew that raised her as though she would've otherwise been on the street. This foundation actually makes perfect sense to who she is. It's important because how many people don't know where they are from and their whole identity is based on only a period or place in their life. Nothing about those crucial years or their history or ancestors, so it's nice to know about Kelly as just little Kelandria and the key women in her life.
LOVEEEEE THIS! ❤LOVEEEEE LOVEEEEE WHAT YOU WROTE! SOOOO ABSOLUTELY AMAZING 👏🏾 I'M SOOOO EXCITED TO SEE SOMEONE PUTTING OUT THEIR THOUGHTS WITHOUT PUTTING SOMEONE ELSE DOWN! PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE A LITTLE HARD TO FIND ON SOCIAL MEDIA NOWADAYS, WHICH IS SO SO SAD! SO, JUST WANTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE WHAT YOU WROTE. THANKS AGAIN 😊❤
Happy to see Kelly engage with Kerry; two of my favorite people. Kerry did a lot of interrupting with questions instead of letting Kelly fully answer questions. Kerry was kind of guiding the conversation with lots of small questions mid answer. Refreshing to hear questions asked that didn't bring up the names of people Kelly are associated with. Kelly remained the star, the center and the subject focus of the interview.
I definitely agree with the interruptions. Kelly would be in the middle of answering some thing, and Kerry would ask her another question mid answer, and I was hoping not to lose the answer from the first question. Thankfully, I was able to follow. Overall, it was a great interview, but interruptions are distracting.
When I tell you.... for years I've sat and thought these are 2 of the most beautiful amazing talented women in Hollywood. I love how their stories have really begun to tell themselves. Seeing them here seems like a unqiue moment fulfilled. I dont know why. Its a great day seeing these sister-queens elevated in this space.
Kerry is on it with, "Street you grew up on". This convo was wonderful to hear. I like Kelly's awareness that this sort of interview opened some windows, that she'll need to explore with a professional aka her therapist. Prolli the first interview, that centres Kelly! 5 stars lol
I just love hearing Kelly's accent! lol And, I always appreciate hearing the backstory of my faves. It's such a humanizing reminder of, "Oh yeah, they started from somewhere too". Kelly and Kerry are both so graceful. Love them!
Such a beautiful conversation. I literally was tearing up the entire episode. Moving around as a child and dealing with the subconscious of instability is tough, but Kelly’s perspective through each season of her life is extraordinary. Wow, what a rich conversation. I was deeply moved to see someone of her stature share so deeply. Feeling blessed. 🙏🏾✨
Our brains protect us, our bodies keep the score! Never heard such profound statement! Amazing interview. And if she wrote a book it could be called The Red Rocking Chair.
UNDOUBTEDLY the best Kelly interview that I (emphasis on I) have seen. Also, her saying her childhood friend was the MOST BEAUTIFUL girl on earth? Ma’am, did YOU see yourself???? Loved the fact that this was ABOUT HER.
I had no idea this show existed but it came up on my screen so I watched it. This was a fun conversation and I love the throwback memories and decor (wood paneling, shag carpet, vinyl records, etc.). Great idea for a show!
Aw the part about the red rocking chair touched me bc someone we all need something of our own and I’m so proud of Kelly for embracing that and also embracing the fact that she deserves to live that little girl’s dream from Boulevard 💗
Thanks Kerry for making this interview more about Kelly pre-Knowles family! Everything the media has said about Kelly involves the Knowles, but this just gave us a new and richer perspective.
I had no idea that Kerry has a YT channel. I literally screamed when I came across it on these YT streets. Immediately hit the subscribebutton ❤ Wow! I love this woman ❤❤ she's my favourite actress from the US. Much love from South Africa ❤
I rarely comment...but this was so genuinely personal and upbuilding. Kelly has always come across as humble and gracious....and now we see where it all camee from. Brought me to tears. Kerry- thank you for asking those insightful questions that really helped Kelly come to her own emphanies. Job well done ladies❤
This made me start thinking back about my childhood as a little girl. Thank you for sharing. I hope that one day I can share my story to the world that will inspire other women.
Hearing Kelly talk about her childhood before the Knowles feels extra special. I can’t explain it, but we didn’t always get these stories from her. Maybe the interviews are better too. Not sure but I love it!
Firstly, I didn't even know Kerry Washington had a channel!😄This show, season 3! I had no idea. Two of my favorite people in entertainment, this interview was so beautiful and special! It really lifted my spirits, just this simple talk! I was sort of in the dumps the past two days! Thanks for this!! I remember eating cookies with cheese! Growing up in the south, and now living in NYC its so interesting to learn the cultural differences within the black and brown communities. I love it!!😄 Kerry, your questions are Superb-Phenominal! I love you as an interviewer, its all the questions I've asked in my head as an interviewer to the people I dream of interviewing!
“The body keeps the score”… she must’ve read that book!! Watching this and remembering all the ladies from destiny’s child as a kid.. the growth is great to watch in real time
My goodness, did this give me chills! Every single part of this conversation did my heart SO good. I may be the oldest of three girls who grew up on the east side of Atlanta, but I feel like I'm listening to two of my big sisters...and I LOVE it. Thank you Kelly and Kerry for making me feel seen.
Wow!!!!❤ I can't tell you how much of a blessing it was to see this today. ❤ Kelly's calm and quiet confidence is so great to witness. The pause with each question asked, created such a safe space to be present. So good! Thank you, Kerry & Kelly! ❤
This was an amazing season opener. I definitely teared up about the red rocking chair. I completely understand the significance of simply having something that is your own. I look forward to more of these beautiful episodes. Side note: Growing up in Chicago, we definitely put peppermint sticks in our pickles.

Thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. I felt like I was sitting on one of the chairs in the room with them. Very comfortable and cozy conversation that pulled a lot out of Kelly. Absolutely enjoyed it.
The best 29 minutes and 57 seconds of my day. I'm so happy I joined Kerry and Kelly in this conversation. Two women I adore as people and who are both great talents. I too am happy they have each other in the entertainment industry. Kelly Roland is like biting into a warm chocolate chip cookie.
This interview is proof that lighting plays a factor in how celebrities look. Every one swears Kelly is bleaching her skin but look how beautifully brown she is in this interview ❤️
We love this so much! We would love to be a guest on your show! They way you give your guest a chance to open up and remember their beginning! Beautiful~ Let us know if you ever make a platform for up-and-coming artist that has a story. Thank you again for this interview! Kelly Rowland is an inspiration!
I love it! Been a huge fan of Kelly since childhood. We're not far apart in age. To see her glowing, thriving, and still growing 20 plus years later w/her beautiful family knowing how much she overcame early in childhood, is absolutely incredible. 🙌🏽🙏🏽
This interview ending just made me cry. If only everyone can truly have a deep understanding of what it is to dream bigger than the four corners of your room. 💕

I loved to hear about Kelly’s village of aunties that laid the foundation for her life. And the influence of Amen! #DeaconFryeGang 😂 But to hear about that red rocking chair had me bawling! Ooh Lord! 😭
I love Kerry Washington when I first saw you in Save the last dance I knew you are a star. Scandal wow what a feat. What I love is you decided to host your own show on youtube. You don't need a network you got it on your own terms. Love you and love this
Yes Kelly! I'm from Atl, and we had a Candy Lady in the projects and we would put sweet things in our Pickles 😅 peppermint sticks in lemons....so much sweet salty, sour concoctions.
Oatmeal cookies and cheese… Jolly Ranchers and pickles 😂 What’s a unique food combination that you love?
Jolly ranchers and pickles. I thought I was the only one did this growing up.
Kerry, every Christmas my mom would cook what she called a New England boiled dinner. It was boiled ham, cabbage, and potatoes. But, the weird part is that we would pour vinegar all over it! Kerry, that sounds like something a pregnant woman would eat. 😂😂😂. But seriously I almost sobbed uncontrollably when Kelly spoke about the red rocker.
That's a H-Town diet lol

!!!
Love love this interview. Thx you both.🙏🏽
💯 beautiful inside and out great personality
It’s crazy that this is the first time an interviewer didn’t make the interview about the name they usually bring up. Thank you Queen Kerry, because this is great! Kelly you are a national treasure!! ❤
She allowed Kelly the respect and honor to bring her sister up when she wanted to.

THIS
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
She deserved to dream! I broke down with that one.... So beautiful
And yet we can’t get a comment section without Beyoncés name. Lord
Kelly should definitely make a movie about her early days. DEFINITELY!!! "Once upon a time there was a girl who lived on a boulevard with a red rocking chair and a big dream... "
Love that
Or write a book, or write a children's book about he red rocking chair

Outstanding! Two beautiful women conversating politely. GOD IS ABLE!
Love these two women. Such class, dignity, grace, and soul. So blessed to have stumbled upon this conversation. 🙏🏿
"A woman's woman" I love that phrase...don't hear it enough.
we typically hear a girl’s girl or a man’s man. But woman’s woman sounds warmer
Kelly is so generous and vulnerable. Ive always loved that about her. It's such a brave superpower.

Kelly Rowland ❤❤❤ Every time I see this woman, I always feel like we haven’t seen all of her just yet. She hasn’t shown us all her talent.
Black women, WE NEED EACH OTHER Y'ALL.
Find your sisterhood, be good to them and stay close.

I agree and am learning that more each day!
Two of the most gorgeous women of all time in one room Woww. This healed me. So emotional.
That southern accent just does not leave you. I love Kelly! She and Beyoncé have a similar talking voice.
Yep, which is why their singing voices blended so well.
Our brains protect us, our bodies keep the score! Never heard such profound statement! Amazing interview. And if she wrote a book it could be called The Red Rocking Chair.
There is a book called “The body keeps the score” by Bessel van der kolk. You should read it, if you haven’t ❤
