    The classical phonebox 😅 i remember seeing a couple around here in Norway, none is in use I figure though.
    The views are astonishing, would it be acceptable to go by bike on those paths, or would that be found upon?
    Absolutely gorgeous weather too, so spectacular views. I too stop filming when I occasionally walk past people, feels rather awkward to film when they walk past 😅
    Such places I could sit for hours on end and just look out the horizon.
    Rather crowded at the top 🙈 I would definitely not be comfortable filming there, kudos to you for doing that! 😁😁 Another splendid video Chris 😁 the footage was even nore beautiful than the pictures you sent 🥰

      @RoamingSouthernNorway I have just looked it up, and mountain biking is not permitted in this area. Mind you, the speed some have passed me on other hikes, I'm actually glad. When I hiked on the D-Day 80km Challenge Hike, there were designated mountain bike tracks, though. The weather was beautiful. I'm glad I started very early as I missed the heat on the climb. I'm happy to vlog in front of others. They can give me a dirty look if they want.😂 Yes, the views were spectacular. They really were. Thank you, as always, Martin, for your support.

      It is the first time I have ever hiked in Wales. If you stand looking at the phone box, there is a lay-by about 1/2 a mile to your right. The route from there is known as the motorway because most people take it. It is a more gradual climb with a better tended path. It depends on your wants/likes. It is a bit too busy for me. Too many people. I loved it so much that I'm out on Friday doing an 11 mile circular starting from the car park in Taf Fechan Forest. This one will keep me away from the tourists, especially with it being summer holidays. Plus, I get to do the ridge walk Horseshoe and take in Pen Y Fan from a different direction. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really appreciate it. I hope you are having a great weekend.

    You had perfect clear weather to see it all. It's a great feeling when complete something you set out to.
    It wouldn't have been easy in the heat. You made me laugh when you said even the pug beat me😂
    You did well.
    It's one I've done so many times.
    I like the path you took (Storey Arms) it's harder but much quieter, it's funny you go up a mountain and then go down for a long while this way😂
    The other way (motorway) is much easier slow incline all the way.
    Really nice to see you hiking this way👌👏👏
    Keep up the good work.

      @JamieHarding5 the motorway must be the one on the left as I was looking at it from the peak. It was too touristy for me. I cut right back across to the road less travelled. No problem mate.
      That was a nice watch for me.
      I rushed up in March when we had snow, I've never been on any mountain like it was that day😂 seriously
      I was up Ben Nevis in October it blew someone over at the top 70mph winds.
      Pen y Fan that day wasn't happy with me, we had a battle😂
      I was the only one on top.
      It changed quickly, i had to sit and wait a little bit before going back.
      It was blowing people back down, they were going down on their bums.
      I started where you do, oh we should see some snow, it got nasty quickly.
      I only did a 3-4 Minutes video.
      Have a look one day, you'll see what I mean.

    Hey Chris 😁 what a fantastic hike this looked! Some fab views at the top and it didn’t look too busy really considering that it is a popular one to do. Haha you are not alone Chris! I’ve been overtaken by a French bulldog before on a hike and it demotivated me so much at the time 😅 but I’m used to plenty of people overtaking me now on hikes. It’s never about how quick I do it though, just that I enjoy it. I always look at the positive and say taking my time means I just get to take those views in even more 😁 it’s a hot looking day to be hiking too. Nice to see the sheep and cows on the trail to. • @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling
      @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling  2 місяці тому +2

      The Pug passed me twice, too. It had had enough. On the way up, I fussed it. When it was on the way back down, I was sitting just soaking up the view. It jumped on my knee and refused to move until the owner picked it up. The right-hand track was tourist central. (The gently sloping one) The left-hand one from the telephone box was a lot quieter. You are right. It was starting to get like Mam Tor. Next time I go I think I'll sleep in the car. I started just after 6 a.m. so I beat most of the crowds and the heat going up. I just didn't have enough water to do the hike I wanted to do. I had planned an 11 mile loop. Next time, I'm taking my Sawyer Squeeze with me. I love the Peak District, but Pen Y Fan blew me away. It was beautiful. I like the beard, but Amanda says it makes me look old. I definitely need a haircut, though. Thank you, as always, for your support, Stephen, and have a great week.

    Have to say how much I admire your stamina and determination for doing challenging walks Chris. Have'vnt been to this part of Wales before. Hope you managed to drink plenty of water in the end. Certainly looked like you had good reminders with bottles on tap!. Nothing wrong with a shorter walk of 6 mile than the intended Pen-Y Fan route. Like you say the secret is plenty of stops on route and drinks. Landscape views looked stunning though, so looks like worth it.

      It was a beautiful hike, Shanita. My next one will be longer in time and miles. I'm going to admire the scenery more and just take it in. I'll be taking my water filter and probably extra water. At least the pack will get lighter along the hike. Like you have said before. The camera doesn't do it justice. Thank you as always for your continued support, Shanita. I hope you and Michael gave had a great weekend.

    Chris mate, you will have to get a couple of straws to stick out from the bottle tops with that water system of yours. 😀 Beautiful view min15 and 20. Yes it is sad regarding the filming of kids, not the country we both grew up in mate. I love my Merino wool socks. Mate you are of the same mind set as me when it comes to seeing people on your walks. Not been into the Brecon Beacons but think it has to be on my bucket list.

    • @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling
      @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling  2 місяці тому +1

      Absolutely. The fewer people I see, the better. I used double lined socks before, but the Merino Wool ones are a game changer. The country has changed for the worse, sadly. It was my first time hiking in Wales. It was a long 2 3/4hrs trip to get there. Not really a long way, just lots of windy roads and 30 or 50mph limits. I'll definitely be going back, but I'll do a route I've been shown, which is less touristy. The first time I did Alport Moor, I went from Derwent. It was a long 13 miles. I went across the swamp of doom the second time, which was a lot easier. I was at Bleaklow Stone at the start of June. It is beautiful out there. Saw no one until I got back on the Pennine Way. I need to get out again. My feet were itching watching your video. I think I'm going to get some smaller bottles. Once you got them out of the mesh holder they were impossible to get back in, but I definitely benefited from having them accessible. I'm going to take my Sawyer Squeeze out every time, just in case. Thank you as always for your support.

    Well done Chris! Strong beard going on there! I remember your Facebook posts at 3am re this trip! It's a beautiful part of the world there, i referenced the SAS too on my video from the Brecon Beacons. Aside from the sheep (and kids and pug) you had a lot of alone time on this walk! I'm not sure I'd want those bottles of water next to my face like that, I'd find them distracting and annoying 😅bet you were knackered on the way home! Now Wales is done, time for a hike in Scotland? Maybe not a day trip though 😁

    • @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling
      @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling  2 місяці тому +1

      The bottles were a tad big. Pink Lemonade 990mls. They were the only thing I had to hand. I could put them in when the pack was off, but they were too big to put them in on the move. Hence, putting them upside down. I'm on the lookout for more appropriate ones. I want to take 4L with me next time. Plus, there is no real place to secure them, so they are anchored to the adjustment buckle. I wasn't too bad on the return. It was only 6 miles. The up was tough, but after that, it was fine. I'm planning another one around there, an 11 mile circular. Thank you as always for your support, Matt. I really appreciate it.

    🥳🪨that hair and beard is getting long, eh, chris? 🤭 how far from home was this for you? you got up so early to drive here. i'm sure you weren't the only one sweating going up and down to see those incredible views! way to persevere chris. hydration is so important! sheep say no more singing! 😂might be hard to not compare yourself to others on the trail, but give yourself a break, "you'll get there." and you did... the hard way and then took it back again. 😅 your appreciation of the beauty really shone through in this one. have a lovely day! 🛴❤

    • @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling
      @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling  2 місяці тому +2

      It was just under three hours' drive each way. It isn't so much the milage to the hike. It is mostly back roads so you can't drive fast. It has sections at 30mph but most at 50mph with lots of windy roads. Even with going to bed early, I was still exhausted on the drive and had to pull over into the parking area for a 1/2hr power nap. I really should have done this going home, too, but I didn't. I think I'm due new glasses, (spectacles?), which would probably help with tiredness. I can sing any tune you want, just probably not in the right key 😂. I'm still getting around to my haircut. Amanda is having balance issues again, sadly. She cuts my hair. I prefer a zero cut. As for the beard, I quite like it, but Amanda says it makes me look old. It is probably destined to come off as well. You are right. I am comparing myself to people who are probably 40 years younger than me. But I can't say that for the Pug. 😂. I really enjoyed this hike. It was the first time I had ever hiked a Welsh peak, and this was a special one for the reasons stated. Andy McNab, who is ex SAS, visited the prison I worked in. I was too shy to talk to him. I just wanted an autograph. I am in awe of the SAS and their achievements. So Amanda said, 'I'll get you an autograph'. She went to the room he was in and asked for a kiss and an autograph. She got both. I know it's only his signature, but it is a link to a person. I have read all his books, and when the Iraq war was on, I was sat on frequency scanning for Iraqi transmissions. So, although my links to this war are tenuous at best, I was sat on an intercept position in Somerset England trying to find Iraqi comms. I worked for GCHQ at that time, which is our equivalent of your NSA. I've had a strange life.😂
