My favorite black Queen is Queen Ranavalana lll the last queen of Madagascar. At the age of twenty she was ruling 20 million people. The French invaded Madagascar and she fought them off for 14 years before she was forced into exile. She killed many Europeans that is why she is ignored by the European press. I think every black person on planet earth should adopt her as our Queen. She will always be my number one queen.

I also read that she captured French troops and did not kill them on the spot. Instead she marched them thru malaria infested swamps knowing that they would be infected and die a slow and painful death. I have no sympathy of what happens to foreign invaders or traitors. Queen Ranavalona lll did a great job.

Gary Collier Yes. Not claiming she was otherwise perfect- what monarch was or is? But I think being African woman in power who opposed alien domination ... nothing her European male contemporaries could have considered "sympathetic" - Nzingha, Ngola of Ndongo & Matamba was as well portrayed as a bloodthirsty warlord in European contemporary reports ... Matamba btw had a long history of female rulers ... she ousted Queen Mwongo

Queen Nzinga kept her people out of the slave trade, she was involved in the enslavement of neighboring peoples.
She owned a number of plantations and used slave labor to run them. She also captured slaves during the war and sold them to Europeans for profit. In addition, she sometimes traded slaves for other goods or services.
Queen Nzinga was a powerful and wealthy woman, but her involvement in the slave trade is a dark part of her legacy.

Achille DevEria was and still seen as a native hero to many. The way she handled political affairs was very smart; it always seemed that she was two steps ahead of everyone else. She never hesitated to put the needs of her country first before anything else. This is exemplified when DevEria herself lead her people to war. One interesting thing that I would like to highlight is her conversion to Catholicism. I believe that she did that so that she could have better relationships with European countries. It felt more like a political decision to me.

As Angolan it is quite enfuriating to see baseless comments of the sort "she sold slaves", have we watched the same Video. By the way, we know her history in even more details. Queen NZINGA alliance with the Dutsch was as means of countering portuguese expansion, she allowed trade to happen, only outside of her TERRITORY, once you escaped as a slave and found yourself in either NDONGO or MATAMBA, you was a free man, the Dutsch agree d to it, the Portuguese didn’t. It wasn’t her who sold people.
In Angola and Congo, there’s a term called the KWATA KWATA wars, in which tribes were used by Europeans to fight against each other, and sell each other, the video mentions the Imbangalas, but there were many such tribes in Angola for instance, who had loyalty to no one, like the JAGA KASSANJE, those people, would catch anyone and sell them.
And this is the environment in which she ruled, the trade was happen with or without her, she provided a safe haven for escaped slaves, and regained many territories that were controlled by the Portuguese, what also wasn’t mentioned, she very often took over trade roots, she was a total menace to the Portuguese, and I can’t understand why ignorant people here can’t hold their mouth shut about shit they don’t know.
    Very DISRESPECTFUL.

She was a queen, a leader and a warrior and she participated in battles as well which makes her sound like if she was a super hero from the super hero movies that are out today. She was also extraordinary because she protected her people even if her life was always in danger. She also managed to escape her kingdom and build a new one with the help of the people that were with her.

I am from Angola and remember studying her in history class in 5th grade. We also covered the different kingdoms and tribes in Angola.

Awesome episode! Off topic. Have we already covered the meaning behind your logo choice? It brings so many questions to mind every time I watch your channel. What does it mean? Why is it not brown? Why yellow hair and yellow eyes? Is it of someone in particular? These are real questions from your subscriber.

If more African kings had not sold other Africans into slavery in the 15th century, I wonder if the intercontinental slave trade would have never taken hold. Though there were slave trading on most continents, there was no slave trade comparable to that of enslaved Africans. Sadly, it's still happening, today.

    • @Larry_Suave
      @Larry_Suave 4 роки тому +1

Probably not. Its all about money and profit. If people arent profiting from slaves they wont keep them. The slave trade was only so profitable because of the huge number of slaves and the ease they could be attained in africa.

Jamaica has a national heroine called Queen Nanny. Queen of the Maroons. Her origins is shrouded in mystery she was never a slave but they weren't sure how she made it to Jamaica. Watching this, I wonder if it's a similar story.

I also read in the Enslaved, that she stood up to the portugese as well as selling 200,000 slaves to them very interesting part of history.. They do a king and queen float in Brazil every year for her I believe..

@@arushanioshaka5600 she kept her kingdom tho, but she had to pay tribut to the portugese ( in slaves and ressources)
You can't blame her, she was +70 years old and tired of doing war against the portugeses
