Loved how he ran away with it.
That reminded me of the scene in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 where Nebula wants to eat some fruit, gets told not to eat it because it wasn't ripe, then later she finds the fruit again and tries to eat it anyway and has to spit it out because indeed it's not ripe.

Just wondering if you always use the same camera person with Huckleberry? He seems comfortable with them around, even wandering away from you with them around, but as you said doesn't trust strangers.

He is SO adorable, he actually looks like an impossibly cute animated character that someone waved a magic wand over and brought to life!!! My first farmette that my husband and I bought in our late 20s had a large creek running across the bottom of it. We were so very fortunate to have a beaver family living in it and on our property! We had a great time watching them for the 10 years we lived there! Every once in a while we had to go and deconstruct some of their work so that they didnt dam the creek up completely! LOL! We struck a delicate balance between not completely wrecking their home, while at the same time making sure that their was enough water flow through it! They were just amazing to watch! They were surprisingly active during the day as well! I was pleasantly surprised! On the RARE occasion that I actually surprised them with my presence...they would give the water an ENORMOUS *SLAP*! And quickly DIVE! DIVE!!! LOL!
Cant wait for huckleberry’s home to be finished! I selfishly want to see my tile! 😂

Since beavers poop in the water, I was just curious as to how you clean his indoor pool? Do you just empty the water and spray it down? Or do you have to use some kind of animal-safe cleaner?
We have a really big pool filter and we also dump and fill several times a week. We use vinegar to disinfect when it needs a good scrubbing.
AnimalWonders Montana but vinegar doesnt disinfect! Be careful.
It would be great if one day Huckleberry could get a pool big enough that he could swim in it. I would certainly donate towards that. 🙂
@@Apostate_ofmind Yes it does. Vinegar is simply dilute acetic acid. Acids attack materials by ionizing and then ripping electrons off of target materials. Including bacterial cell walls. It's a weaker version of why bleach works (chlorine does the same thing, only much more violently).
I use a strong vinegar solution to clean my reptile enclosures between major bleach cleanings. It's far less irritating to the animals and lets me return them to their cleaned enclosures much more quickly. Bleach takes a while to evaporate.
@@Kim-lc3fv They have that smaller pool with the steps because huckleberry has ataxia (definition in video), which can act up at any time. But I am sure if they fill the current pool up more it would give plenty of swim room :)

looked like he was holding it in a strange position and was trying to put as little weight on it as possible.
He's just an awkward land walker. He does lift his front left foot up often when he's pondering what to do next. I think it has to do with preference or similar to being right or left handed in humans.

It’s been so much fun watching Huckleberry grow up!!! I was laughing so hard at him stealing that plum 🤣 I’m glad that Huckleberry is expanding his beaver family and starting to trust Augusto more!! Side note- at work we use plastic boards with handles to maneuver the animals sometimes (just looked up the name online and it’s called a sorting panel/ pig board) Would it be useful for you guys to have something like that? They are a smidge expensive, but if it was on your Amazon wish list I would be down to donate towards it for you guys to get one!
Such a wonderful video! Huckleberry is adorable and it's lovely to see him going on an adventure. It's really good to see him building a trust bond with Augusto, and it's always good to see Augusto on camera - you guys are an amazing team.

It’s amazing to see humane treatment towards beavers considering they are hunted frequently because farmers find them an inconvenience without recognizing that they are pivotal to the smooth functioning of rivers and lakes. They prevent overflows or flooding g of rivers during rainy season too and help propagate new foliage and growth in plants. I wish farmers were educated about this.

My city puts chicken wire around most trees along the river to keep beavers from chopping them down. In one evening the little lumber Jack's can take out quite a few trees. But they don't seem to go after the spruce trees for some reason. Probably taste like unripe plums lol

Is Beaver actually just Wombat with webbed feet and paddle like tail?
Both are nocturnal.
They do look similar! However, beavers are in the rodent group which means they are mammals with large every growing incisors, and they are not related to wombats at all. Wombats are marsupials, which means they are mammals that develop in a pouch instead of inside a womb with a placenta. While they may look similar on the outside, they are very different species.
Huck's gotten so big!
I love beavers and he seems very happy and calm. I am happy to see him being happy and in a comfortable caring environment! He’s made so much progression and I am so happy to see him learn and be happy.

Have you tried putting Agusto in a red wig and wearing your scent? Huckleberry may be more inclined to a familiar scent

I notice he seems to avoid putting weight on his front left paw most of the time. Is that a symptom of the ataxia?
I am curious: is there a real reason that a beaver should not eat a green plum, or was your concern based only on the fact that YOU would not want to eat it that green?
It could potentially give him un upset stomach if he ate it. I was mostly worried about him eating the pit inside, which is even more likely to cause gi issues. I was trying to convince him to not eat it by saying it tasted bad (obviously he doesn't understand me) and he figured that out for himself once he got a nibble.

when we want an animal to bond/befriend a new person we make sure the new person is the ONLY person that gives the animals favorite treat,it also works to a lesser extent with favorite activity, I know this is no secret as you did a similar thing when you told Augusto to swap out the treat for Yam his favorite

You should put chicken wire over the yard to protect against hawks.
And you vertical chicken wire should be 1 inc. or so openings, to keep out snakes.

It's strange to see a wild animal so timid of exploring the outside world and natural settings. That beaver looks like it suffers the animal version of agoraphobia.
