Hi Jeremy, Thanks to your videos, I've just managed to repair and old tailtwister from 1989 (no grease anymore, some rusted balls, rusty connectors aso...). Your comments have been very usefull, specialy to put on the right configuration the ring and the copper arm of the potentiometer before screwing the lower casting. All turns ok on 360 degrees, the brake does a strong metallic noise when plugged / unplugged but it should be normal. Another tailtwister will soon be happy to turn HF beams in middle France ! Thank you Jeremy, you made servicing my rotor a walk in the park! The rotor has been in the air since 2000, but I have been inactive for 15 years. There wasn't one bit of grease left in it. The bottom bearings had rust on them. Other than that it still looked new inside. The races had some oxidation on them, but cleaned up just like new. New bearings and grease and it's just like new. I'm really lucky that the races didn't look like the one's in your video! Again, thank you!
Really the best video I've seen on rebuilding a rotor ...great explanation on getting it back together!! ...now I know why my back up rotor didn't turn all the way ...my clocking is off and I put the tab inside the shut off relay ....simple fix now that I know what's wrong I can fix my back up rotor ....thank you for up load my freind and 73 ....DE N5OMV in west Texas
just watched the vid... wow... did not realize how involved that whole thing is. I've owned them in the past, but never had one apart. I'm about to install a small tribander and have the rotor you were working on (I believe). is this magic you work something you offer as a service? tia de KE8KW Ken in northern New Hampshire..
Thank You Jeramy for the GREAT VIDEO. I have this model exactly and it was built in March of 1997. Following your video step for step I was able to take it apart, remove the old somewhat rusted bearings and races and then clean out the original grease (yellow ?) and put in the new bearings (from eBay) and the fresh grease (Super Lube for Home Depot) . Everything else looked fine so I reassembled it and it worked smoothly in each direction. A really great video and made me feel easier in doing the job instead of sending it out for someone else to do. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! 73 KE8TQR
Jeramy, thank you for this video, it is going to be a great help to me. I have received a Tailtwister, Ham III and Ham IV with controllers which are in need of overhauling. Couple of questions, if you would kindly answer; 1. Notice you didn't put any sealant between the two outer molds, would it be better to run a small bead to help seal the sections? 2, I would like to repaint the outside with the likes of CRC Black Zinc to help protect it and make it look better. Your thoughts on this. Now to the build, thanks Kevin, ZL1KFM.
Have never thought of putting sealer on the two halves. Good idea but never seen it done. I don’t ever worry about the paint I just want them to function. But that’s up to you my friend
It only takes a thimble full of grease to do a dry rotor. Also, rotate until the controller points north so you will know what direction to point the antenna.
Thanks Jeremy for all the information on both your Hygain rotator videos. One question: Is there any lubrication that needs to be placed on the grears and bearing locations? If so what?
Hello Jeremy, thank you for this detailed and interesting video. I have recently removed exactly the same rotor and it seems to be just as old and certainly needs maintenance. Mine has the cables also still attached with screws, where can you buy the package with the connectors and the socket to convert the rotor to it. And are there spare parts from the manufacturer still for this rotor, I think it would make sense to replace the mount for the ball bearing balls, can you buy these somewhere? Many greetings from Germany 73 Per dc0hs

Forte abraço PP2CC
Jeramy. The unusual wear is due to the rotator not centred with the mast. The T2X is centred on 2.063" OD mast diameter.
