Thank you! 100 times over. Purchased a whole mirror assembly today from a local salvage yard (Chuck's located in York, PA.) 212.00 dollars, picking up Tuesday a.m. This video will save me hundreds! The dealer wanted 91.00 just to replace the glass, and the labor would be 132.00 dollars. For the entire mirror assembly 492.00 bucks, and double for the labor. Hope I have the luck of others in the comment section. Will keep you posted.
There are a couple of differences in removing the mirror unit if you have an upgraded package for your truck. I have a 2017 RAM 1500 Limited. With this came two extra wires and some extra chrome trim. Both of the wires are for ambient lighting in the two different areas to see these areas better at night. The first wire was on the plastic piece that surrounded the door handle. I just left that one connected to the plastic piece and left the whole thing hanging after I popped it out of the door panel when removing the panel. It was easy to put back in place when doing the reinstall. The second wire was connected to the door panel down by the cup holders. I disconnected this one from the actual door and left it connected to the door panel. Again, this was easy to reconnect when doing the reinstall. The last difference was the control panel. My Limited has a chrome trim package which puts a chrome trim in various areas, particularly around the control panel in the door panel arm rest. When removing the control panel, you need to lift just the panel, leaving the chrome trim in place. I learned this after trying to pry out the chrome trim first. Luckily I'm not the "force it" kind of guy and was able to leave the trim without causing any damage. You were spot on when you said that control panel comes out easily. Outside of these differences, you nailed it in the video. I appreciate the time you took to get this out there as it certainly helped me prepare for the replacement job.
Thx for the video Winter had my back road 1 and a half lanes and some a hole decided to not give me and 2 other drivers the room to drive so I moved over and clipped a heavy truck and busted my passenger mirror Grrrrr
Would've been too simple to put the electrical connections in the cap that has nothing else in it by the mirror. "Naaaah.....let's make all the connections way down in there so everyone has to take the whole door panel off". Gotta love some engineers 🤣
I was told by the RAM dealer that there are no replacement parts for the mirror. It has to be changed as a whole unit. I lost the light cover to mine in an automated car wash (the dryer blower blew it off) and had to change the whole mirror unit. There may be another way, but that's what the dealer told me (and I followed... $$$).
Swapping out a busted mirror assembly was a breeze thanks to your video. Much appreciated!

Is there a way to just remove and replace the mirror part of the mirror assembly? You know, the part that moves and is heated. Thanks!

still haven't figured out when Im supposed to blow my nose
After you stop being a smart ass and say thank you to this guy for saving us $.
Can you change just the light cover on the bottom? I have a 2018 Laramie and the plastic light cover at the bottom is chipped on corner...

How do you turn the light on the mirror
It is just a courtesy/puddle light when you hit the unlock button to help see at night it doesn't run all
the time
Make sure to watch it on MUTE!!!
Very disappointed in this. I've been looking for the installation of a side mirror for my truck, But instead it's the whole assembly removal
Man you got COVID? Get tested
yessir. 2 years ago before it was cool
You should see an Ear nose an throat doctor. Seriously, no offense but that is brutal
Crist. Blow your nose
The next time you make a video stop all of that damn sniffling, that shit got on my nerves!
Sounds like you need a tissue..
