I used to wonder why my 91 year old Father keeps watching the same movies from the 1940's on television that he's seen 100 times already and then I realize that I keep watching these shows I went to when I was 16 and it all makes sense. Aging sucks. But nostalgia kicks ass.
Exactly right, I never thought 1987 would be so long ago !
@@keithfr7095 such a long, long time to be gone
Such a short time to be there…!😢
Interesting perspective
I was at this show. It was one of the best I ever saw. late 80's Dead shows very underrated IMO. Brent brought so much to the gig.
Get outta here!!!
Agreed!
I loved 80’s Dead
Brent was the man!!!
Agree. The 80's were a great time to be alive and the Dead were tearing it up despite a few hiccups here & there. Brent was the man!
I love the Grateful Dead because they wait so patiently for the section of music that explores my mind!!
Watching that “Jack Straw” on video really blew my mind !! It is just as good as the comments said!!! Awesome!
Have a great spring and summer everyone, many blessings to all of the wonderful people in this tribe !
THE BEST JACKSTRAW OF ALL TIME.
That’s debatable but I could not say you didn’t have a really good argument ⚡️💪. Always looking for a perfect JS but you know if Jerry makes a small flub on his lines he’s going to rip a strong solo and he sure does here!
Absolutely phenomenal capture of the live improv anything can happen Dead at the top of their game. Audience ambiance is precious. A Jack Straw for the ages. Thank you to EVERYONE involved.
Love to all the older Deadheads out there from Bunny to u y’all as Bobby is always saying ! ❤️🐇🐰🥰😘😍💀☠️🤎🩵🤍🩶💚💙🩷💛🖤💜✌️🫶🏼🥳😵💫🤩 dance as long as u can because I can’t ! So do it for me !
Sure don’t know why nobody noticed it, but I found “Saint of Circumstance “ absolutely AMAZING!!! Right into “drums”…perfection!!
It is gteat how Phil is up in the mix. He is really a huge part of the sound. This is one of the finest mixes I've heard.
Agreed! Love out when Phil lays down those bombs!!
I had no idea how privileged I was to have seen the final "Dancing in the Streets" at my second show. I turned 17 six days later. I miss those days. Best "Jackstraw" I ever saw.
My first show. Last Dancing. Some shows you can feel the energy through the headphones. This is one of them. That night I knew I found my place in life. 35 years later I'm still here. ❤
@@Eagle-tr5oj & @Done-my first show as well as a 17 year old.
Sorry, hit wrong thing without finishing thought. The main thought and message we were VERY lucky to see the Dead in 87, even though I didn’t think the music was as tight as my bootleg mid 80’s tapes, 87 was only a different year for the band because of Jerry’s health. Nice to have this posting AND with a great video, reminds of my first shows at Hampton 3-22,3-23-87! Thanks for this, I’ve been checking out some spring 87 lately, and it’s actually better than I remember it when it was new. Thanks
The BEST “Jack Straw “ I’ve ever heard was on July 4th shows.,,
I flew up for the next night. I've never really listened to this night until today. Amazing Dancin into Franklin's.
For sure - IMO this night is way better than the following night that was radio broadcast.
Yes, I agree, the first night is always more exiting!!
Thank u again Mr. Tobin good to c all of this Gratefuldead music which I live for every day to keep me going ! ❤️🐰🐇🌹😍😘🥰
Jersey/NY crowd energy at this show was incredible! What a great memory of a rocking show! Jersey Baby!!!
New Jersey sucks dude - what the fuck are you talking about?!
And it EXPLODES my mind as well❤
Maybe the best Jack Straw I've seen. Smoker!
check out chapel hill 93

Wow. Best Jack Straw ever? Sure! Thanks, PT.
One of the best for sure!
Yes. Best Jackstraw ever. Without a doubt.

Thank you yet again Kevin. I was there. My b-day show is the 7th. I so truely appreciate your hard work. Please keep doing what you are doing. Bringing so much joy to all of us.
My birthday show is 4/10!
I turned one the day of this show lol
this must be heaven spring tour 87 this was the dead I rember
Awesome , Thanks Kevin !
Also didn't know until today that it was the last Dancin in the Streets played. A magical final time!
Yep. Got REALLY lucky to hear this final version at my second show ever when I was a lad of 16.
Thanks again Kevin 👍
Bob: "wanna do Jack Straw?" jerry:" sure, I'll come up with something"
great work Kevin.
I can't believe only 5k views! Spring '87 is one of the best!!
Definitely best Jack Straw I've ever seen and possibly best Mexicali as well. My first show. Straight up 🔥
I think this is the best Jackstraw in Grateful Dead history. Better than Syracuse by far.
Agreed. I've heard the Carrier Dome version many many times and it doesn't quite compare. I've heard at least a dozen other nominees for the best version ever and none of them compare either. As far as I can tell, this is the best version ever.
there are two drummers playing!
This song Stellar Blue always make me cry my heart out for Jerry ! 💔❤️🔥❤️🩹💞💘💝💖all my broken hearts ! 🥲😥😢❤️🐇🐰
thanks!
4 years too early for me. I got on the bus in spring of 90 saw Brent 5 times then caught 8-12 shows per year through 91-95. 93 being my favorite year by far after Brent. A VERY Sneaky good year for Jerry and Vince melded alas.
Jerry and Vince never melded, buddy
You need to be careful mentioning VW. There are some deep seated bad feelings about that particular keys player. Makes me wonder if he shat in someone's Cheerios or what.
@@chrisrutherford9216 no, he just was a very poor fit with the band. His sound just didn't jive with the band. Either he was too high in the mix, which only amplified this fact, or they had to turn him down leading to no keys in the mix. He was a very talented player, just not a good fit. Brent, on the other hand, was a match made in heaven!
93 was a phenomenal year. Spring, Summer and Fall!!!
@@chrisrutherford9216 Vince played for the Tubes I think it was. Go figure. I once saw, during a show, Vince make an honest attempt to try to take Jerry off his game but Jerry turned and faced him and threw it right back at him.
my fave show of tour ,,,last dancin
Definitely - such an underrated show. Better IMO that the following night's that people know better because it was broadcast on the radio.
I❤NJ
I was so fortunate to be in my early twenties when I started following them in 87 to 95 in my opinion after Brent passed away they never regained that magic chemistry
I totally agree 👍🍄🇺🇲
I was top row left side of stage...Wow this was a great concert. stayed out in the parking lot till 4 am with Dave Costa...
Love to you and Dave !
Classic Dave Costa
Happy 4/6
Awesome !!!

A lot of people my age partied with Dead bootlegs several years before this show, but had yet to see them in person. My first show wasn’t until Hampton 3-22-87, but I had wanted to see them for a couple of years, damn, how lucky we were to see the Dead after Jerry’s diabetic coma! We just didn’t realize it at the time. All these years later, I realize I was one of the lucky ones. Speaking of lucky back then, I heard about to tickets to Ventura, and went to the Roanoke Civic Center and bought 2 days of tickets to Ventura County Fairgrounds for 12 dollars and 50 cents each. Then about a month later met up with a friend in Sherman Oaks at another friends apartment, on the 12’th, we got on the Amtrak, and by 12 noon we made it to Ventura
Such a great point - I had been into the GD since 1984 and thought I'd never get to see them after Jerry's coma. I had to wait until 4/4/87 but I got my wish.
It fills with such joy to hear these tales of people who had the chance to see the dead in the old days. I onlybgitbavhance to see them in the 90s but I ain't complaining. What I mean is that it's great to hear people being so grateful for the joy this band brought to their lives in comparison to what young people sonhere these days which is calling attention for the short term for their 15 minutes of fame. The dead are the real deal and for me playing their songs in my acoustic a d turning people on in Spain is the best I can do. Thanks you all for these uploads and keeping the flame alive.
You were at the best Hampton show 87 cool
You are lucky. I was in. Hampton show also. War. Locks. 🎉
Spring 87 dead. This is the real stuff. Dead on tap
Badass
i was there , birthday show
My friend who was in Sherman Oaks with The apartment really missed out. He poo pooed the Dead, Hendrix and Zeppelin at the time and was into all the current heavy metal crap of the 80’s at the time. The Dead in the 80’s has Always been their high point to me. Not just because of my time period but because of having Brent instead of Pig or Keith on keyboards. The band benefitted after the addition of Brent big time In my one little opinion. Thanks

The commercials ruin it!
This is the **** compared to Dead and Company. But it is what it is. At least we had the chance to experience it then with Jerry. Not before, nothing since...
Fucking commercials??? 4 of them in the first set. And of course they're right in the middle of Jack Straw and then when Garcia's lighting up the strings during Deal. It really sucks!
There is no better Jackstraw in Grateful Dead history.
The drummers and Phil are just getting OFF during this jackstraw.
I listened to this show. 8 times in a Roll. I get it now. I get it. And 99 present think I was there. In fact I was. You need to look at the big picture on this one 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
All I know is Facebook says that they r going to get rid of me but I don’t know exactly y ! But I’ll b on here as long as I can b ! I love all the shows + I thank u very much Mr. Tobin ❤️🐇🐰🌹☠️💀🫶🏼✌️🤩😵💫🥳😍😘🥰😥😢🥲I will cry if this happens !
