I lived two miles from the Frost, and attended all the Dead/JGB/Lesh and Friends shows there, except this one. I stayed home to record the shows which were being broadcast live by the cleanest FM signal imaginable. Man, they played fast in '85!
As far as set lists go, you couldn't ask for much more than this and once again brother Brent strong in the mix is always a double thumbs up around these parts ! Thanks Okie for making mine a majic Monday !!
Yep, the good ol' Frost, one of the best, woodsiest and mellowest of the Bay Area venues they played, second maybe only to the Berkeley Greek. The sound of this recording is remarkable!
"Dancing in the Street" was always a favorite. I love this version. Interesting that "Bertha," ofttimes the opener in the 70's, followed it. MUCHAS GARCIAS, OKIE!
36 years ago today , the boys let it rip in one of the coolest places to see the Dead. I was fortunate enough to make it in 1989 , the last year they were allowed to play there.
The boys were on a roll in 85. On a scale of 1 to 10, every show I saw that year was a 20. (Except for the Halloween show in SC , which was more like a 5). This is a great example of how awesome they were playing at that time. Muchos gracias Okie!
@@danosullivan7239 yeah, that Werewoves was a real treat. Great Shakedown too. There were some curfew issues though, which meant the 2nd set was really short. They more than made up for it the following night in Richmond however.
I can say the same thing & the summer tour was especially hot . My buddies & I did that whole summer east coast boy were those the days👍👍👍👍👍🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼✌✌✌✌✌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Okie, i tell folks Dead did so many shows, you can yt grateful dead and today's date, and there will be a show. Most often it's you, in good clean audio. Well done!
This Frost show speaks to me!!🤓😁🎶 I normally like the era that I got to see shows 1988-1991. Shows after '91 do affect me but my core love are the above mentioned years. This Frost show is another to add to a quickly growing list of shows acquired👍🎵🎸☺️😎😇🥳

could it be that the Scarlet was at its maximum height of Jerry ripping it to pieces I mean give me a break this is a really good rippa-roo.. I really miss Jerry...
My first ever 2 shows! Could anyone ask for any better set list! 20 years old, just out of the army..my summer of live. Been on the bus, ever since! Play dead every day, and mote on the weekend 😅

This was before they started putting a mic at the soundboard to mix in the "house". Clean soundboards with only a little stage mic leakage at this time. I always enjoyed posting up near the soundboard.
By far, the best Dead show I got to see live, but some at the Greek were close, and that last one with Dylan opening at RFK, but anyway... Loved getting to see Bertha, Music, Scarlet, Eyes....Then the crowd, very connected with the boys, handed up a bass drum head, and it said "Let Phil Sing"...You'll notice, that silence and crowd cheering at about 36'30", that's what was going on....Then everyone got very excited, and so, he DID. It was totally spontaneous, the ban copping to the crowd, and Jerry spoke and it was so fun...Very surprising--(and hey, he did a great job remembering verses to a rarely performed, GREAT Dylan song!) I couldn't have done better, haha!. A close friend had just given me her ticket in SF, and I hooked up with friends, and even fell in love that night...Crazy night...Beach balls bouncing everywhere, people were spraying water squirt bottles around which was a nice relief...it was pretty hot!...I just felt like they were so friendly and like having a special night outside in their backyard. Saw a racoon that night, sitting up on a tree stump in the dark, staring at the moon. True. Me and my newfound girlfriend were smitten, and quite amazed to find another moon admirer in the yard. Funny! Magical times. The Dead shows were ALWAYS like that, in some crazy way or another...But this show, man...you couldn't ask for better songs or ambience...so beautiful that lovely afternoon slowly turning to evening at Frost!!!!!!!!🦝
Thank you OkieDeadhead! This is the latest Dave’s Picks ☮️✌️

Tony Danis I can’t even imagine the amount of cocaine that went into these tempos.

Like it.. a change from Dead and Slow!
Cocaine will do that 😂

What a star Brent was.
Thanks, as always, OkieD. You are a gift. This is an amazing show. I love this show. 85 shows are way underrated.
Yep, the good ol' Frost, one of the best, woodsiest and mellowest of the Bay Area venues they played, second maybe only to the Berkeley Greek. The sound of this recording is remarkable!
I like the Frost better than the Greek, more intimate & as you said, woodsy.
My old copy of this show was listenable, but nothing like this. Scarlet > Eyes, gotta love that.
This is an absolutely perfect recording !! The separation on the instruments is amazing ! Great show too !
Someone gave me this cassette tape back in 88 and it was the cleanest SBD I’d ever heard . It literally changed my life.

This was my FAVORITE FROST SHOW - in retrospect... Plus I got a DAY JOB at Stanford - based on JERRY telling me to keep my day job - LOL
Scarlet -> Touch Tease -> Fire Tease -> Landing on Eyes of the world. Show highlight for sure.
Those Scarlet~Eyes are ta die for..... rendered me speechless!!!
Bless you for the effort to post the timings. U R Appreciated 👍🎶🎶🎵🎶🕺💃
Crowd: “We want Phil!!!”
Jerry: “He’s ours!!!”
Never knew any other band that was so connected to its fans
Hey, Okie, thanks again, "Grateful"ly appreciated for sure. Later Peace
😊
The Music Never Stopped is about as stellar and energetic of any other versions I've ever heard...at least for the 80's...IMHO.

There's something about the 1985 shows. It was their 20th anniversary year and what a year it was. Especially Brents maturing with the band

Fkin Jerry...
Even by their standards, a lot of drugs in 85...
