      Yes! I know Joy. And each of my guide dogs, including Figgy, have been from the Oregon campus of GDB! ❤️. Thanks for following and for coming along with us! It’s great to have so many different people and styles out there AND so many more youtubers with various disabilities sharing our stories!

      CraftyBlindChick I'm happy to hear that!
      I actually like to watch videos with people with disabilities because I can learn a lot and I can share the knowledge I get from these people (including you!).
      Did you know that your second dog and Joyce the first dog have the same color and the one you both now have, have the same color too?
      And thanks for responding so quickly!!
      I love to see you and your family ☺️
      Do you use voiceover too (on iPhone) or can you see close to read on your phone?

      Hey Nancy! I DID know that about Antonia and Cagney (Arabella) , Figaro is actually my third Guide dog, and Picassa was my first. Between them I had a tiny black lab named Megan who ended up having horrible allergies in Minnesota. 😨. I do use voiceover! I do all of my recording, editing, and music, so it’s been quite a learning process doing UA-cam!

      The Blind Mom Next Door - Hi - Coincidentally, There is an adorable little girl with albinism on the cover of our April issue, which just came out. Keep up the great work.

      I will DEFINITELY pick up a copy!! I am so grateful for my friendships with parents of children with albinism-for them to see adults with albinism living life to its fullest and doing all the things they love... those parents so often express a different type of hope and excitement for their kiddo’s future. And the kids with albinism... I LOVE that they are able to see themselves in the adults with albinism, but also that they have these unique and beautiful friendships with OTHER KIDS with albinism!! My family and I attended our first NOAH conference last summer, and it was truly life-changing! We can’t wait for summer 2020 when we go to Orange County for the next national conference (and, I might be a “liiiiittle” excited to go to Disneyland while we’re there. 😂😂😂

      I most likely will be in summer classes. And i am so glad that guide dogs are around, it helps so much not to worry about a cane and whether it will hit something and then hit you.

      If you use Instagram add me over there and I’ll add you! Would love to follow your process with your new guide! I went to a women’s retreat in Utah a couple summers ago and LOVED the area!

      My intagram is albino_from_utah . And Utah is a great place for blind and visually impaired people. All the street are in a grid and most businesses are follow ADA. And there is a little group of 6 of us that are albino out here. And Utah is not the best for albinos because it is sunny for 7 out of 12 months of the year.

    What do you recommend bringing to guide dog school? Is there anything you wished you brought and didn’t? Anything you thought you’d use but didn’t end up needing? I’ve been having trouble figuring out what to bring, I tend to be an over-packer!

    • @theblindmomnextdoor
      @theblindmomnextdoor  6 років тому +3

      YES! BRING comfortable working clothes, it’s a different kind of learning and work, but it is TIRING and your body and mind will get fatigued. Bring whatever will help you sleep best away from home-again-you NEED your sleep! I bring a dress outfit for graduation (not sure which organization you’re going to!) and otherwise ALL of my clothes are casual and comfortable. I bring layers in case of rain or yucky weather, but I borrow a rain coat and rain pants from GDB When I’m there. Based on the time of year, I’ll bring gloves to keep my hands warm-when I trained with Picassa I didn’t and had to buy some because my hands FROZE! I’ll write more in a bit!

    • @lcage8437
      @lcage8437 6 років тому +2

      CraftyBlindChick THANK YOU!! This helps a lot. I will definitely switch out a pair of shoes for some sneakers and bring some comfy clothes and comfort items from home!

      I can write more also, and could do a video if you’d like of recommended items to pack for guide dog training! ❤️

    Fun hearing about your Fig. Who does his nail care?

    • @theblindmomnextdoor
      @theblindmomnextdoor  6 років тому +1

      One of our local family run pet stores actually does a fundraiser $10 nail trim every other week so we take both dogs there. They also shave under his feet for me because of his work. My husband used to trim Picassa’s nails but he’s not comfortable with it with Figaro being a black dog and not being able to see the quick easily.

    Is Figaro very focused when he is in harness?

    • @theblindmomnextdoor
      @theblindmomnextdoor  6 років тому +1

      Figaro is TOTALLY focused when he’s in harness! Unless he sees my husband after awhile of not seeing him, then he’s a NUT. But, he refocuses well. He just LOVES the hubby lol.
