Gen 5 was so hated on when they first came out. Ive always loved these games and think its one of the best gens. I distinctly remember the hate Black and White got, it even reached me when I wasn't on the internet regularly as a kid. At this point it's arguably the peak of Pokemon. I think one of the reasons why it was so hated was because B&W or B&W2 was released near or during the release of the 3DS so people got disappointed due to not getting a Pokemon for the next system.

@anthonytitone the heck are you talking about? The 3DS games look great for the system and look lot better for 3DS standards than Gen 5 games look compared to DS standards...
@@V-Jes you’re talking about standards for the console but that’s the problem. The DS was home to the best looking 2D games & they had perfected the sprite work at that time. The 3DS was only capable of making ugly 3D games tho since it wasn’t as powerful as other 3D systems. It’s pretty clear to me that the DS games have aged more gracefully.
@anthonytitone how delusional are you? DS was never even close to having 1 of the best looking 2D games around when PS1, Sega Saturn and PSP exists, while some of the best looking 2D DS games are literally just ports of SNES games like Chrono Trigger...
Gen 5 was the turning point of Pokemon, and we see that in how the other generations have tried to implement what made it work in the first place. The story was what makes Gen 5 the best of the franchise because it made it *feel* like we were playing an actual JRPG. There was stakes involved, and we managed to save the Unova region from an actual Villain that almost won. That right there is peak.
No it didn't, it feels like as much of a JRPG as any other mainline game just with lot more interruptions, and there are no ACTUAL stakes because Ns plan relies on hoping that the entire Unova region is made out of morons who will abandon theyr pets to the wild because a random dude with a legendary dragon nobody knows about who beat a local sports star told them to...
There WERE stakes involved. Team Plasma was filled with their little ideology that was misguided by Ghetsis who would then raid the Pokemon League to do his bidding. He relied on N to beat Alder so he can absically manipulate N to do his own bidding and rule over Unova. That was something that wasn't fully revealed until later, but the whole idea of "are Pokemon happy?" was always in the back of the player's mind. @@V-Jes
@Brianycus only some Plasma members actually believed those ideologies what is why they split between games as most of them were just your usual Team Rocket grunts blindly following evil leader knowing they are evil, while the question of "are Pokémon happy" is not on most players mind because the game literally just drops those questions, has an entire game mechanic about that showing that they are happy with the player regardless what they do and they make the guy who asked those questions the obvious bad guy showing that only evil people ask those questions in the first place...
You are still proving my point about the whole stakes of Gen 5. Team Plasma blindly followed N's ideals and Ghetsis without so much understanding their reasoning. They were blindfully following their goals because they themselves believed in it without actually thinking about it. In fact, no game I've seen in another other generation took the time to remind you of those goals as you always encountered N throughout your journey and he continued speaking about his goals and the idea of "are Pokemon truly happy", learning it through you, the player. It is constantly on your mind as you play through the game unlike it being an afterthought in most games, like Gen II when we barely encounter Silver and it's only towards the literal end of the game where he learns to be friends with his Pokemon. No Gen 5 from day one gives you the story and it unfolds as you progress through it, with how even the Gym Leaders were directly involved with the whole business. Team Plasma had no idea that their leader was evil until AFTER the fact when Ghetsis reveals his true colors. It is only then in BW2 where they are convicted of staying with Ghetsis and truly believe in his iron fist ideals. But in BW, they believed in what N believed and didn't realize what they were doing was all through sheer manipulation by Ghetsis' part. @@V-Jes
@@Brianycus You are getting a completely wrong idea what I said about the grunts who follow Ghetsis because most of them NEVER believed any of that at all and have no reason to follow him at all other than the fact that bad guy need grunts so they knew Ghetsis was evil day 1 and followed him for no reason even before the events of BW1 with only the small minority getting fooled and those are the 1s who left between games and again, if Pokemon are happy or not is not on most players mind at all because most players aren't stupid and know that they are happy by default because it's literally been a mechanic since Gen 2 released in 1999 so they have no reason to care if they'r digital fighting tools are sad or happy because they are happy regardless what you do or think... While in the end these aren't real stakes at all when regardless of what happens, an evil organisation having more or less grunts is not a big deal to the region of Unova at all...
Protip for leveling in gen 5: buy a bunch of repels and use them, then run around the grass until you see grass rustling - and charge straight for it. In most routes, Audino is a common pokemon found in rustling grass, and Audino has one of if not the biggest EXP gains upon defeat. So you can save a lot of time grinding with a few Audinos (they're also more support oriented so they shouldn't wear your party down too much). This will be especially important for bw2 which have more level spikes during the regular campaign, though bw2 compensates that a bit by giving you 2 free Lucky Eggs during the story IIRC.
@@DrazenX195 yep. Audino + lucky egg can get you a couple of levels in the span of a few minutes (if your levels are on par, if they're under then it's even quicker). If that gets boring you can also use the rematchable trainers or dark grass (which gives higher levels & the chance of a double battle, for those reading who aren't in the know).
@@Chronal-Rend true, but some spots are easier than others - and you still want to use repels anyways to avoid encounters on the way to the rustling grass.
As quite possibly the biggest Unova fan of all time, any time I see people talking about it in a positive way, I can immediately respect them and connect with them. But having someone come back after never playing them and being caught off guard by peakmon Black/White just fills me with joy 😊😊😊 Thank you for giving my favourite Pokémon games, and some of my favourite games of all time a chance and I’m so happy you loved your time!!! I’ve loved the Unova games since they came out and when I started to hear people crapping on them I was flabbergasted, then a couple years ago, all the Unova fans grew up and started making videos and BOOM, complete 180!!! 😂
By people it’s literally genwunners. Gen 4 was hated af back then to until gen 5 and gen 5 was also hated so much until gen 6 it’s a NEVER ending cycle 💀
@a.x.x8184 Gen 6 wasn't really hated when it came out because that's the games what brought most fans back to the series, but years later started to get hate because "3D = Bad" side of the fandom became a thing out of nostalgia and hate for Sword/Shield...
@@V-Jes It was hated for a lot of things tf? A downgraded story from gen 5, bland rivals, team flare was handled poorly, no megas for the actual Kalos mons besides like 1, Starters became all bipedal and humaniod & Kalos started the trend of having a fruity starter (Delphox), the lack of post game content, start of Kanto pandering like nah this gen was hated af for reasons.
@a.x.x8184 the heck are you talking about? Most people were fine with the story and lack of post game because everyone was expecting Z to come out in a year or 2 like usual to fix that while also being fine with Kanto pandering because how Gen 5 killed so many older fans interested from the franchise, also so called "fruity" starters have been around since Gen 3 or even since Gen 1 with Charizard depending on what side of the fandom you ask, while the nostalgia pandering started with BW2 to a point that you can even battle Red in that game while in the anime even Ash got his Charizard back for his adventure for no reason other than to pander older fans back to watching the show...
Gen 5 changed my life. I was around 9-10 years when it came out and these games hold a very special place in my heart because of that. I’ve replayed these games over and over again ever since and always pick up on new things from this story. From N’s backstory, to the true purpose of Team Plasma and then the duality of the old and new Team Plasma on BW2 is just so different to every other gen . The creature design was overhated imo, they are my favorite mons and VGC was so interesting this gen! These are my favorite Pokemon games ever and can’t wait for a remake( hope they don’t mess it up)
Pokémon White was my first ever Pokémon game, got it on my birthday in 2011 along with a black 3DS. I remember restarting the game over a dozen times because I didn’t know how to save my data 😂. Overall I thought the game was an amazing experience, and I consider myself very lucky to grow up with Gen 5. However, I never made it past victory road, so I actually ended up selling my copy to GameStop. My friend gifted me his cartridge and I ended up beating the game years later. Black 2 is my favorite game in the series as it was actually the first game I was able to finish!
This is still my favorite game of all time, not so much as for the game itself but for what it did to my brain. It fundamentally changed the way I view video game antagonists and stories as a concept as a young child
Thanks for the appreciation for this game! It’s probably my favorite generation, and I like gen 7 a lot too! I understand the frustration about the amount of cutscenes in gen 7 but I feel like people hate on the game as a whole too much. It’s one of the only 3Ds-switch generations that I really like.
I skipped this generation when it came out because, I hated the designs and I was kind of out growing Pokemon. Fast forward 13 yrs later I paid a stupid amount of money to get Black and Black 2 (just the cartridges too😅), made me realize that Gamefreak really put in a lot of love and effort into the game compared to S/V. The fact that they really pushed the DS to show the environment in 3D was definitely ahead of it's time.
Cool, so you don’t play Pokemon anymore right? I mean if it peaked, why bother. What I’ve noticed is that a lot of people are starting be like, “back in my day…” old people. Things HAVE to move on. Just because the new games don’t do sprites doesn’t mean that they all of a sudden suck. To me, it’s good riddance to this kind of Pokemon game play. No more wasting time grinding. Now give me a quicker way to move around from the get go, ALL XP Share and access to boxes at all times (not just at PCs) and you got yourself a better gen 5 game. But thanks to newer games, this is now a reality. You can’t just take the bad and run with it. I admit that the sprites are beautiful in this game, but eventually they had to move into the newer generation of graphics.
I love Gen 5 it was the first game I bought after getting my DS so I'm very attached to this game. I remember my family loving the game so much that we watched the black and white anime every Saturday for the new episodes because of our love for the game. Those days were my favorite. I truly miss pokemon games like B&W it was an incredible time back then.
I grew up with red and blue but never played any other games till sword and shield. they got me back into pokemon and i eventually played all the games i missed since gen 1 and black and white ended up being my favorites. I also picked oshawott as well. spent over an hour resetting for a jolly nature haha. anyway, glad to see these games getting the praise they deserve. Also, if you do play black/white 2 and you encounter (not catch) every pokemon in the dex, you can get access to a shiny haxorus.
You earned a new subscriber today because I completely agree I feel like black-and-white had some of the Dopest storylines. Also, the sequels black-and-white to connect the originals perfectly and I feel like it was supposed to be a reincarnation of what GEN 1 a as and 2 was, a game and a sequel. It basically makes the player question things, and while I did not like black-and-white when they first came out looking back, I can really appreciate the games after playing. Wow I didn’t even think abojt cheren finding his purpose. Yeah the games were based off of New York and the people and Pokémon actual reflect that and yeah the gym leaders had purpose and jobs and it’s funny because they didn’t leave it to the child
Man this looks so good. I wish it were easier to go back to these old Pokémon. As someone newer to the series, I feel like I missed so much and the older games are so expensive 😢
you can play them for free emulated. easy AF to use on PC and the iphone/android versions work too.. and if you have a hacked 3ds with custom firmware and pokemon bank/home you can even play emulated gen 2-7 and still be able to transfer pokemon into your main current gen game ...theres guides online if you ever manage to get a hold of a 3ds with custom firmware..but if youre not to worried about getting pokemon in to current gen and just want to play the old gens for fun or even competitive on games like battle revolution that still have an unofficial dns server you can use to have online battles with people.. hell there is even a working GTS on black and white/1/2 with the unofficial dns and access to mystery gifts and event pokemon in gen 4 and 5.. you have to use gameshark/action replay codes to get events / gifts to work in gen 3 though which is all possible with emulators (Melonds for DS, MGBA for gameboy, Dolphin for gamecube and Citra for Wii etc)
Played this on my flashcart with an English translation patch and loved it. It was so good and I played it again when it came out in the west. I feel like it has some of the best music in the series and you could change ur too by talking to some musicians to add a piano or a guitar or whatever. Loved that we got all new Pokémon to use for the main story, even though it's a controversial decision then and now. This was peak Pokémon for me and I didn't get this excited about Pokémon games till Scarlet and Violet, bugs and all. So glad you finally played it and are looking forward to the sequels.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, I played Black in 2021, after about 7 years of not playing a Pokemon game, and the quality of it astounded me. Everything about it was so good, including one of the most incredible post games ever in a pokemon game, imo you havent beat the game until you've gone for Elite 4 round two. Unfortunately gen 5 is the highest gen ive gotten around to beating, but I hope to change that one day soon by playing USUM.
What you said about Emerald being your favorite and D/P not connecting was the same exact situation for me. I have a better appreciation for post-R/S/E games now though
I’m just like u loved Pokémon growing up but got burnt out at gen 3 and never got to experience black or white aaaand looking at how much they cost today looks like I’m not gonna experience them for a while longer here’s to hoping they remake them…
I got Pokemon Black because I found it cheap at the time (probably like 2013-14 ish) and the game blew me away because no one talked about it at the time. After Gen 2 (including HGSS in that), it's my favourite Pokemon game and I did not expect that when I played it because I was actually disappointed with Gen 4 just like you were. It just felt like a by the numbers, basic Pokemon experience with a snowy area thrown in to give it at least something fresh.
This appeared in my recommended right after a post of people talking about how LA and SV are the best Pokémon games to date... I wanted to puke reading that. Thankfully this is here
Good video, glad you enjoyed it. I played Black and White after X and Y came out and didn't play since ruby and sapphire, so I really didn't notice no new pokemon, I just figured there were so many that I wasn't seeing my favorites from gen 1 and 2, and just couldn't remember the ones I had seen in gen 3.
Pokémon black felt like a refresh for me. I didn’t play gen 4 at all, so I had a long gap between emerald and anything else Pokémon related. I had a hard time memorizing the type chart over again and most fights caused me to go back to the Pokémon center.
I’ve used the voice chat for Pokémon white in middle school. Me and friend talked through it after school. It also worked as a video call too. Since it can use the DSi camera. Me and my friend drew on each others faces lol. The good ol days
I know I'm late to this video, but I played these games for the first time when they were released. I had seen the anime around Gen 4, but when these games came out, I loved them. I still do. I replay them whenever I can. And when Black and White 2 came out, played those and loved them even more. These games are special to me and always will be.
Pokémon BW/BW2 were my first Pokémon games will forever hold a special place in my heart. But imma be real I don’t like the switch up ppl are doing. I remember ppl hating on the game but now they love it 😭.
You can actually still participate in some of the online features to this day. Fan servers have successfully recreated compatibility with the actual games to the GTS and even the wifi event distributer! They haven't recreated the dream world and some other features, but fans are still working hard to grant others the ability to experience these events.
Black is my comfort game; it was the first pokemon game I ever played and nothing will ever come close to replicating that feeling. Nostalgia is a powerful drug, but I like to think these games still hold up today. It is nice that this generation has finally grown up to the point where the discourse surrounding these games is more positive. Unova will always be my virtual home, lol.
This is my first time playing also man I’m playing through all these nds like Black / black 2 / pokemon sun/moon then onto all the pokemon switch games I have so far I’ve beat diamond remaster. Thanks for the vid this gave me motivation
I played Pokemon Black pretty close to when it was released! I was a HUGE Pokemon kid back then. I still am a very big Pokemon fan, mostly on the game front with plans to read some manga at some point. I adored this game. It remains among my favorite Pokemon games. I played it all the time as a kid. I remember CRYING when I saw a Jigglypuff in the post game because I was relieved they didn't forget all the older Pokemon. I found my first ever wild shiny (Joltik :]) in that game. The story was GREAT. It has flaws that I can definitely see as an adult, but the characters all felt so REAL. I loved the rivals, I loved N's story ESPECIALLY. Some of the stuff you could find too! The seasons! The beautiful pixel work!!!!! Gen 5 as a whole is probably my FAVORITE generation. It was a beautiful send-off to pixel Pokemon. I'm happy to see people playing it for the first time even now and enjoying it! It's a great game. :]
I also just played white for the first time in 2023. Was tired of Pokémon games during high school. Picked it up fairly cheap and now looking for white/black 2
ramdom curiosity, you can get 2 exp shares in the game, the second is in a house on iccirus city, you just have to show a pokemon with max friendship and the guy on the house guves you another exp share
Woah I was so hyped with my brother and friends before the released of Pokémon BW. I used to buy game magazines back then and they would promote the upcoming games and toys, and I saw this game. Me and bro as usual would choose one version each and I went for black. I debated with my friends about who is cooler and better, Reshiram or Zekrom😂 When I finally got my hands on my Pokemon Black and booted it, I was a little disappointed and confused to see not a single one pokemon that I know of, they were all completely new. But I quickly realised that we’ve been so spoiled with the known, that as soon as we see a familiar pokemon, we’d go for that. And I thought, wow this is just like playing pokemon for the first time, zero knowledge, fresh start. I soon appreciated Gamefreak for not adding previous gen Pokemon throughout the main story. I had a great adventures❤
Didn´t have access to internet with my DS as a child. The only relic of the voice chat I know about is a video from weedletwineedle he uploaded where he fights someone in gen 6 I believe who is at least stoned. The lines his opponent used are channel memes to this day: "Forgot about healing wishes power?" "Encore WHYY!?" and "Bravebird! IT´S GOING DOWN!". Absolute gems.
used to use the mic all the time as a kid ,i used to go to my grannys house after school till my parents finished work and after dinner i had to stay in so i was ready to go ,so after dinner me and my freind across the street used to talk though the mic and join each others world to give xp buffs and heals etc .
Going back and playing these older games I agree that the XP share is BS in the older games, and yet, people went nuts when XP Share gave all Pokemon XP, do you REALLY like to waste time grinding? I don’t understand people some times. I’m in it for the Pokedex, I don’t need to waste my time leveling up because I hit a brick wall.
13:45 I’m pretty sure they don’t have the voice chat because the chatot mimic Pokémon had buffs with voices but people kept making the Pokémon say bad words and those words were said online with random people hearing them in battles. So they shut it down lol
i bought almost day one with my birthday/christmas money ad was one of if not the first actual thing i bought for myself. i spent so much time getting through the tows, experiencing sky arrow and new sights. the house on the beach. the post-game, hunting for rare Pokémon using the news to find pokémon hordes
The XP (Share) in BW is on a scaled curve where the lower level a pokemon is the higher amount of XP it gains, and that effect scales with the XP Share being used on lower pokemon if you get a KO with a higher level mon ie level 60 Machoke KO's a level 60 Sentret it gets low amounts of XP, but the level 30 hoothoot in the party with the XP Share gets a ton
I genuinely used to voice chat on Pokemon Black/White, but not with anyone random. I used to Wi-Fi battle my middle school friend when we'd go home after talking about/playing Pokemon all day at school and we'd normally talk there, that was our way of communication almost. 😂😂
Man you missed on the time to play black and white when they came out. The nastolgia hitting me with the old wifi battles ive had with my old friends in the school playground. Man what a damn time.💯
You know, when I was a kid I remember getting this game for Christmas and playing the shit out of it My first Shiney was found here I ended up not enjoying it due to the differences in the graphics and art styles I kinda tossed it to the back of my collection and ignored it. Eventually I lost it and years later wanted to come back only to realize I don't have it anymore
Who else is pretty much the same thing that happened to me I got my hands on Megaman battle network and I was like fuck this shit. Hell of a grind and I fucking love it. Everything about battle network. I got hooked. I eventually came around and I got got to black and white one and two maybe a year or two after release from each other
I got Pokémon black on launch and my older sibling got Pokémon white. We used the voice call function all of 1 time , the audio was more piss poor than a walkie talkie from Walmart and it would only work if you connected with them specifically and you had to basically search for the other person and the range was not good, it would cap out after around 100 feet. It was cute to use the one time but past that just something not worth anyone’s time
Finally! Can’t wait to watch. The best Pokémon game of all time and sadly the last really Pokémon game before the company changed the style for the worse. Rip Pokémon
@@blur8163 I'd argue the story is just as good and may even be better in some ways. But one that can't be argued is how deep and content rich the game is.
I grew up watching the anime alongside these games. Vividly remember x and y anime, but I know I also watched black and white (I guess I didn’t care for the characters at the time tho). Also, watched a ton of the original series and really enjoyed it
I’ve played every gen (no 3D) and I’ve got to say, Gen 5 is by far my favorite game wise. I love R/B, G/S, and Ruby and Sapphire, but B2/W2 is the magnus opus imo. Just felt more complete.
13:40 I used voice chat with one of my online friends at the time!! It wasn't perfectly clear audio of course. Reminicent of a walkie talkie/static phone signal. I never used it with complete strangers, but I'm sure those who did caused Nintendo to realize how VC could be a bad idea quickly with how the site Omegle is used for example. On the topic of mics/cams too; with BW2, when played on a DSi/3DS you could use the Xtransceiver for local play to essentially 'web'cam with a player nearby. Idk the range, but it was an interesting and I'm sure quickly misused feature. Also shout out to the Dream World site connection. Gen 5 was so experimental with features for its time and even in retrospect for the franchise.
I left pokemon early as well but for me it was gen 4. To me that's the peak of pokemon and nothing has surpassed it. Ive came back and played through most of the games so far just gotta finish black but still nothing has topped gen 4 for me
I was going to make a "gen 5 sucked" comment, but i see it's ready taken lol. I wi sah that, yes, it was indeed hated. Although many of us fans absolutely KNEW gen 5 was going to be a huge hit one day. After almost an entire decade and a half (only missing less than year now). I can only hope we get a straight remaster of W1/W2, and B1/B2 remaster. As a gen 2 favorite, i full heartedly think gen 5 is the most deserved.
Played Black super recently as my first Pokemon Game ever and I think Im halfway through X and plan to play many more, I just don’t know if anything can top Black it was so insanely good as just a Video game experience In general
Black and White restored my faith in the series after I’ve found Gen 4 just so dissatisfying. Gen 5 is my absolute favorite entry in the series, and if it gets a remake, I pray it’s done justice. I can remember the day the game came out. I was working the scullery in the Navy, and the NEX was just about to close. My buddy and I hurried and bolted over there to get us a copy of the game. I fell off the series after emerald version, and got Soul Silver at a whim because I grew up playing Gold version. Pokémon Black and White is probably one of my favorite jrpgs. It was peak Pokemon. I love Scarlet and Violet, but man if they have the freshness of black and white it would be even greater. Funny enough, the games afterwards carry on that legacy.
One day I’ll finish this game when this game came out I hated the new designs for the Pokemon I thought the region was 🔥 tho anywho I stopped at the 8th gym and never returned to it actually had stepped away from Pokemon for years until oras don’t have a copy of black but I do have black 2 which I heard was better! Gonna nuzlocke it before the remakes come out ( still want a Jhoto remake first my fav region)
Oh wow, i used the x and y voice chat back in the day, didnt know black and white had one though! I remember i met a guy named jesus on the game. He was like, 5 years older than me, and we talked once. But it was fun! [In x and y]

Audino farming is the way to go. Much prefer it to exp share. It's a good balance of quick leveling while not making the game bonkers easy.
Audino+ lucky egg+ exp share is key to every run through of Black 2 for me. Especially since I only do nuzlokce challenges.
As long as you're running beside the grass you'll still get the encounters for audino. You don't have to run back and forth in the grass specifically.
But having someone come back after never playing them and being caught off guard by peakmon Black/White just fills me with joy 😊😊😊
Thank you for giving my favourite Pokémon games, and some of my favourite games of all time a chance and I’m so happy you loved your time!!!
I’ve loved the Unova games since they came out and when I started to hear people crapping on them I was flabbergasted, then a couple years ago, all the Unova fans grew up and started making videos and BOOM, complete 180!!! 😂
I used the voice chat, it was just a voice chat during battles where you could talk to each other. Worked surprisingly well.
I have spent 14 years now backing Gen 5 and I’m glad everybody has come around.
man ive playd 1000+s hours of black and white back in 2013 and oh my its stil a banger ngl
I wish that it didn’t receive so much hate for being different. Pokémon could be different today
People used to hate on this game😂how nostalgia has turned the tables
By people it’s literally genwunners. Gen 4 was hated af back then to until gen 5 and gen 5 was also hated so much until gen 6 it’s a NEVER ending cycle 💀
@@a.x.x8184 fr black and white 2 hold a special place in my memory lane.
These are my favorite Pokemon games ever and can’t wait for a remake( hope they don’t mess it up)
Damn dude you know what changed my life? Reading that comment, thank you
Pokémon White was my first ever Pokémon game, got it on my birthday in 2011 along with a black 3DS.
I bet you boughts the drugs with that money you heathen. how dare you give gamestop profit!
Restarting the game was fr 😭😭
This was the gen where pokemon peaked imo. I feel like the level of love and attention the games got went down after this gen
@@RazHollyyea I have played the newer ones and they fucking suck compared to Gen 5.
@@RazHolly this is a stupid ass comment, just because it peaked doesn't mean we WONT play pkmn its still fun its just not as good
I love Gen 5 it was the first game I bought after getting my DS so I'm very attached to this game.
I used the voice chat but I don’t really remember it being chaotic. You just used a friend code and stuff then it’s a direct call
Man this looks so good.
I wish it were easier to go back to these old Pokémon. As someone newer to the series, I feel like I missed so much and the older games are so expensive 😢
You can play them on your phone if you have an Android
you can play them for free emulated. easy AF to use on PC and the iphone/android versions work too.. and if you have a hacked 3ds with custom firmware and pokemon bank/home you can even play emulated gen 2-7 and still be able to transfer pokemon into your main current gen game ...theres guides online if you ever manage to get a hold of a 3ds with custom firmware..but if youre not to worried about getting pokemon in to current gen and just want to play the old gens for fun or even competitive on games like battle revolution that still have an unofficial dns server you can use to have online battles with people.. hell there is even a working GTS on black and white/1/2 with the unofficial dns and access to mystery gifts and event pokemon in gen 4 and 5.. you have to use gameshark/action replay codes to get events / gifts to work in gen 3 though which is all possible with emulators (Melonds for DS, MGBA for gameboy, Dolphin for gamecube and Citra for Wii etc)
Emulator
you can! there are a few emulators for android, and DeSmuMe is a common one for pc i've always used
When you do black and white 2, do the post game.. there’s A LOT of post game and it’s so so so good
Played this on my flashcart with an English translation patch and loved it.
I did the exact same thing, same time gap too 😂
Pokemon dropped off heaps after this Gen. Sorry to say.
Battle Subway and Dream World were AWESOME 🤘🤘🤘
Much better than anything we have today 🥲
Glad you covered this gem sir 🙏
Someone who openly admits his love for Sun and Moon? Okay you get a miniscule subscription from me...
After watching this I definitely have to go replay them as an adult to truly appreciate the story bc I never caught that cheren was going through it
What you said about Emerald being your favorite and D/P not connecting was the same exact situation for me. I have a better appreciation for post-R/S/E games now though
I’m just like u loved Pokémon growing up but got burnt out at gen 3 and never got to experience black or white aaaand looking at how much they cost today looks like I’m not gonna experience them for a while longer here’s to hoping they remake them…
B&W and B&W2 were literally perfect, such a shame they got such a bad rep. The new ROM hack on pc is incredible!
Same here… born & raised New Yorker finally getting around to playing gen 5 in 2023 😂😂
I got Pokemon Black because I found it cheap at the time (probably like 2013-14 ish) and the game blew me away because no one talked about it at the time.
Pokémon White and Black/ 2 are my favorite games
I debated with my friends about who is cooler and better, Reshiram or Zekrom😂
When I finally got my hands on my Pokemon Black and booted it, I was a little disappointed and confused to see not a single one pokemon that I know of, they were all completely new.
Ah yes gen 5 my favorite gen! Still play Black 2 to this day. Started my Pokémon journey with gen 4 and stopped after gen 6.
used to use the mic all the time as a kid ,i used to go to my grannys house after school till my parents finished work and after dinner i had to stay in so i was ready to go ,so after dinner me and my freind across the street used to talk though the mic and join each others world to give xp buffs and heals etc .
I am working towards getting a living Dex in Black today, this was so timely. I love just walking around the region
13:45 I’m pretty sure they don’t have the voice chat because the chatot mimic Pokémon had buffs with voices but people kept making the Pokémon say bad words and those words were said online with random people hearing them in battles. So they shut it down lol
glad you enjoyed bw!! looking forward to your opinions on bw2!!
I remember getting on the battle train all the time with my older brother but I don’t recall ever using voice chat
i bought almost day one with my birthday/christmas money ad was one of if not the first actual thing i bought for myself. i spent so much time getting through the tows, experiencing sky arrow and new sights. the house on the beach. the post-game, hunting for rare Pokémon using the news to find pokémon hordes
My first pokemon game was white on my DSi, loved every minute of it.
Pokémon black was my favorite since the first day I bought it I remember playing this 24/7
I genuinely used to voice chat on Pokemon Black/White, but not with anyone random. I used to Wi-Fi battle my middle school friend when we'd go home after talking about/playing Pokemon all day at school and we'd normally talk there, that was our way of communication almost. 😂😂
gen 5 will always me by goat
For Gen 6 I used the 3ds to talk to my friends before I had a phone when playing X and Y with them, never used gen 5 voice chat though.
Man you missed on the time to play black and white when they came out. The nastolgia hitting me with the old wifi battles ive had with my old friends in the school playground. Man what a damn time.💯
You know, when I was a kid I remember getting this game for Christmas and playing the shit out of it
My first Shiney was found here
I ended up not enjoying it due to the differences in the graphics and art styles
I kinda tossed it to the back of my collection and ignored it.
I eventually came around and I got got to black and white one and two maybe a year or two after release from each other
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ONE FOR A LONG TIME
Aw hell yeah best generation, you can easily grind by walking around near grass untill it rustles for an audino encounter. It can easily level you up!
It was cute to use the one time but past that just something not worth anyone’s time
B2W2 are one of my all time fave games ngl
Did use the voice chat lol, not built like MW lobbys, pretty chill
I am quite fond of this game and would be delighted if it were to be remade.
I used the voice chat back in the day, it was also in gen 6 I think. The voice chat was Ass. Probably because of the microphone on the ds
The Unova games (especially BW2) are the absolute pinnacle of the series for me
Bro your room is sick asf 🔥🔥
Finally! Can’t wait to watch. The best Pokémon game of all time and sadly the last really Pokémon game before the company changed the style for the worse. Rip Pokémon
You’re forgetting about the sequel to this game that’s better in basically every way except story
The series fell off Mt Coronet after this and the Black2white2
This and the sequel are pretty much the last good Pokémon games
I hope they dont butcher them in remakes like bdsp
@@blur8163 I'd argue the story is just as good and may even be better in some ways. But one that can't be argued is how deep and content rich the game is.
So they had voice chat in gen 6 too and I remember it very fondly people were super nice on there always giving you free shinies lol
Pokémons magnum opus is Red and Blue because that's what made them gaming icons, meanwhile not even 1/5 the Pokémon fans have played BW2...
I never played this gen, but i got them off ebay ready to sit down and go into
Black 2 and White 2 were the Pinnacle imo
I left pokemon early as well but for me it was gen 4. To me that's the peak of pokemon and nothing has surpassed it. Ive came back and played through most of the games so far just gotta finish black but still nothing has topped gen 4 for me
Good timing you made this video cause the dlc 2 in scarlet and violet is based in unova
So glad I grew up on this
I was going to make a "gen 5 sucked" comment, but i see it's ready taken lol.
Love that he pronounces Pokemon like our parents did to annoy us when we were kids 😂.
Pokemon platinum is my favorite but black and white were excellent too! Love Unova!
Played Black super recently as my first Pokemon Game ever and I think Im halfway through X and plan to play many more, I just don’t know if anything can top Black it was so insanely good as just a Video game experience In general
Still one of my most all time favorite Pokemon games , right behind platinum.
such a wonderful generation
I'm as late as you. I'm currently playing the post game of B1, grinding levels for the second league challenge.
My second favourite gen behind gen 2!
black 2 white 2, is the peak of Pokemon imo
Played this for the firsy time recently and wow the elite for was the most brutal i can remember
It probably says "Version Noir" because you got a Canadian multilingual version
Gen 4 sucked, but Gen 5 not bad
Beat HG earlier this year and now playing through Omega Ruby.
Loved these games, so great!
My first generation…i was 9 when they released.
I loved Gold and Crystal but I've struggled with the new games. Gen 1 is my favourite ❤
