- Giuseppe Martucci (Capua, 6 January 1856 - Naples, 1 June 1909) was an Italian composer, conductor, pianist and teacher. As a composer and teacher he was influential in reviving Italian interest in non-operatic music. As a conductor he helped to introduce Wagner's operas to Italy and also gave important early concerts of English music there.

Piano Concerto No. 1, Op. 40 (1878)
I. Allegro (00:00)
II. Andante (15:37)
III. Allegro (26:28)
Francesco Caramiello, piano and Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Francesco D'Avalos
I've never heard a piano concerto like this. Truly Special
This is very attractive music by a guy I never heard of before today. This concerto is almost great and Martucci deserves to be better known.
The recording features pianist, Francesco Caramiello, with The Philharmonia under the baton of Francesco d'Avalos. It dates from 1989, released the following year on the ASV label (ASV - DCA 690).
Finalmente ho avuto la gioia di ascoltare seguendo la partitura del Grande Martucci. Grazie 🙏
FASCINATING concerto. Beautifully orchestrated.
Thanks for this upload, didn't know this composer but the andante is so moving ! Love the part from 24:00 to the end of the movement !

Who is the pianist? Don't they get credit in this video? They had to practice this stuff....
+OpenGoldberg I don't know the name of the performers. This video is from my old channel which got terminated plus all the info. But now you mention it I might know where to find the names.
Cool - I feel bad for them, all that hard work =)
+OpenGoldberg If it wasn't for youtube uploaders like my channel, nobody would hear this music.
That's so true. I'd never heard of this composer. Thanks for sharing.
@@bartjebartmansand it's sublime music. I haven't really heard a piece like this ever. Thank you!
Stupendes Konzert, dessen Andante eigentlich zur musikalischen Weltliteratur zählen sollte.
the harmonies at 4:55 (and 11:04) remind me somehow of Saint-Saens
I believe rachmaninoff took inspiration from this concerto for his 4th concerto. They speak to each other
how come? do you have example
Particularly beautiful slow movement, I thought. But golly, that score is hard to read.
