- The game has a futuristic sci-fi theme and updated graphics hardware (powered by the 3dfx Voodoo 3 chipset).
It also features a player tracking system, where players join "Team Rush" by inputting their name and PIN on a 12-button keypad (using a traditional payphone keypad) to track their stats on that machine and receive access to unlockable tracks and cars.
The game still focus on jump physics and wildly insane stunts instead of realistic gameplay, though it's possible to turn up the realism for more advanced players.
True to the title, the races are held in the streets and environs of a futuristic San Francisco, where the hilly terrain provides numerous opportunities to perform jumps and stunts.
This version of the game brought back the tracks, cars, and shortcuts from Tournament Edition but removed online play due to Midway Tournament Network being shut down. So compared to the original version there are 2 new tracks, 10 new cars and new shortcuts.

San Francisco Rush 2049: Special Edition is an arcade 3D racing game developed by Midway Games West and published by Betson Enterprises in 2003 for Atari Denver hardware. This game was the final game released to carry the Atari Games moniker prior to the company being renamed Midway Games West later that year, with the Special Edition version release being the final Midway arcade game altogether, released two years after Midway shut down their arcade division and just before Midway Games West shut down that same year.
Back in the 90's they couldn't imagine that in the future it'd be necessary to dodge all the human feces on San Francisco streets.

San Francisco Rush 2049 Special Edition is the best game in the future, when i was a teenage boy in this best day through the rest of my life. I love Rush series!

Classic game, I have played Rush games.
Differences between the console releases:
Location info was removed
The timer was removed
The tracks have more fancy names in the Dreamcast port
Vehicle customization is more expanded in the console ports (N64 allows you to freely choose the paint for all 3 parts of the car)
The bots were reduced from 7 per race to 5 per race
The main menu music is redone in the N64 version
Tournament edition cars were available in the arcade version but were moved to unlockable in the console ports
The coins were reworked for the console ports to have 8 SIlver and Gold coins per track
New modes were added
the n64 main menu theme was used in the dreamcast version as the internet browser theme

Console off-track scenery is greatly simplified and Atari logos removed.
No Alcatraz track
Arcade has shortcuts that are time/lap or mystery-condition sensitive.
console removes that but adds some button-sensitive paths/traps.
Console tracks redone for reverse driving, and extra shortcuts added.
Arcade multiplayer up to 8.

its crazy how the pick up truck looks sorta similar to the cyber truck but personally the rush 2049 truck looks better. one day a electric or hybrid truck will be made and will look sorta similar to the 2049 truck and that ill be totally down to buy!

I still wish in MAT3 They added this game. The Console version is great don't get me wrong but... Damn would've been fun to play this version.

Explain how the game was linked, on phone lines, to other arcades. So you’re playing live with other people, that are miles away in another arcade somewhere. I enjoyed the simultaneous play, and you could press the view button which made screams into their booth. Hilarious.
15:59 this track was cut in console version, including Midway Greatest Treasures 3 (because the game is Dreamcast version, not Arcade version)
More like Alcatraz track was only added on Tournament and Special Edition.
