  • @surfingasongwave

    Yeah, the "favorite song is the last one" and "50 songs in the top 10 songs" is a trope but it's actually true. Nobody believes it until, say, their fifth or sixth song but then reality begins to sink in. Some people judge bands and musicians by how many notes they can play or things like that, but for me it's just what you said. They move me. They touch my heart and that is the aim of every musician, or should be.
    You want to see them live? Start working on your cardio!

    Said so often that one day somebody will ask Band Maid to write a Bond Theme and it will be a guaranteed memorable song. Band Maid are just the real deal and have been for ten years. Band Maid make us all tear up. They really are great to listen to. In their usual live performance of over an hour and a half to two hours, Saiki needs a break. So naturally they have to write superb instrumentals from the to time to allow her a chance to relax.

    • @armynurseboy
      @armynurseboy Рік тому +7

      yup. They typically do a grouping of an instrumental, a Miku led song and then a Miku led MC time to give Saiki about 15-20 minutes of rest.

  • @BillHallisey
    @BillHallisey Рік тому +42

    There is a reason Kanami writes instrumentals for the band. It's to save Saiki's voice. A few years ago, Saiki had to have surgery on her vocal cords to remove polyps that affected her voice. So the band is very conscious of any strain that might affect her singing. Saiki makes out the set list for every live concert, keeping in mind the songs that might put a strain on her voice. Usually during a concert, The will play an instrumental(Onset and Don't be Long are two of them) and then Miku will sing one of the songs designated for her and then they will then do Miku's Omajinai Time, so that Saiki can get the vocal rest she needs.

    • @jasonfisher8529
      @jasonfisher8529 Рік тому +5

      And "Play" was so good (IIRC) that Saiki asked to have a vocal part in it, so the band had to come up with a new song that was instrumental LOL. Because you cannot just burn out your lead vocalist over a 2 or 3 hour set. Epic group.

    ...and now you have it right. You HAVE to see them live. Yes...yes you do. When I saw them in Denver, CO in August, when they played this particular song, my entire body was shaking, vibrating with energy. I'm not exaggerating. Kanami was ON FIRE. It was a REVELATION. I would suspect you'll experience "The Power of The Maids" in 2024. Rock on, man! 🕊

    Yes my friend. You are not alone. Goosebumps, watery eyes, they have the magic.
    This is the song that knocked me over into full blown Maidiac.
    Your reaction is exactly what I love about watching reactions. Those “goosebump moments,” those pauses before they hit you again, the emotional journey. Watching you is like watching my kid opening his Christmas gift. I know what’s coming and you don’t!
    That said, I think I know where you could go next. The Maids have a particular song that fans love; they always play it live; and it shows another facet of their musical abilities: “Daydreaming,” official music video is the way to go.
    “Daydreaming,” an uptempo ballad, sits in perfect contrast with “From Now On.” The same musicians shouldn’t be able to do this. But they do.
    Enjoy traveling down the pigeonhole! And I know you’re going to see them live someday. Hopes are for a world tour after their next album release. 🤞🏽

    You kept mentioning Saiki. I believe she is the reason this song exists. She said she wanted an instrumental to draw in the crowd when they played festivals. (With the unstated fact that she would keep them there afterwards).
    And Kanami just went "Hold my coffee".
    They often use it for opening their show now.

    Oh - meant to add. It's perfectly normal to feel emotional when experiencing this band. I call it the "double-rainbow man effect" (where this guy is sobbing on camera at a double rainbow). Sometimes "beauty" can reach such epic heights as to literally make us tear up with joy, and the best music definitely is capable of doing that. I still can't make it through the Great Gig in the Sky half the time without a Kleenex. The awesomeness of this band - just Damn!!

    This song takes a certain amount of energy to play. And at It was to be the encore at the end of the tour before last but Kanami was exhausted and couldn't play it in Chicago. So, when they returned to Chicago, to play Lollapalooza they opened with it. And as they warmed up they got even better. Not only did they play the version of 'Don't Your Tell ME' with the Call & Response "Battle" in it they did an even better one in 'Hate'. That's the one you should do a Reaction on!

    Band-Maid, they know what they're doing.
    I had the same reaction to "Onset" and I didn't think they could top it, until I heard "From Now On" - I don't know how they do it.
    I hope you get a chance to see them live. Their shows are unique: 19 to 23 songs and about three MC breaks where they interact with the audience. They have a lot of fun trolling each other and talking to the audience. Everyone has a good time! Saiki does each evening's set list and she schedules an instrumental along with a "Miku Song" to give her voice a rest mid-concert. Saiki has had vocal cord issues and has had surgery to correct the problems. She now takes VERY GOOD CARE of her voice and you can tell that her voice has become better over the years.
    They love playing small venues; I think they really enjoy being up close with their audience.

    I remember when I first watched the DVD of this, you could have knocked me over with a feather. You're bang on about the fact that even though FNO is a great showcase for individual band members, it's also a great song with a stirring musical narrative. Kanami (lead guitarist) is about as good a songwriter as there is, and the others contribute heavily in making it rock. They've got a grueling 10th anniversary tour to finish up, but I'd imagine that after a break and (hopefully) a new record release, they'll start touring again. I think it would be hard for them pass on Europe next go round.

  • @tonygriffin_

    Hopefully they'll be visiting Europe next year. And when I say Europe I mean the UK. And when I say the UK I mean Wales. And when I say Wales I mean Cardiff. All their instrumentals are stellar, and all have a song structure that sound like they could have vocals added. Play was originally written as an instrumental but Saiki asked Miku to put vocals to it. Official instrumentals Onset live is a killer instrumental and then there is Don't Be Long (from their Different single release) and then there are a bunch of unofficial UA-cam videos of instrumentals pirated from their DVD releases including Domination, Giovanni, Dice, Unleash!, Without Holding Back, if you do a UA-cam search. The treasure of the instrumentals is the instruments are front and centre in the mix and you can hear the insane detail Kanami includes in her compositions. Many of the white background videos have focus on just one member like Akane.

I'd say from the videos of the festivals that I've seen that it works very well. Otherwise as others have said it's a mid set song to give Saiki a break. It's interesting, if what I've heard is true, that the idea of having From Now On as a festival opener and the first track on Unleash!!!!! was down to Saiki. I believe it as something we know about Band Maid is they always seem to put what's best for the band before themselves.
