I have been stranded at Helsinki Airport for the past 3 days. I am at this second awaiting a flight home to Scotland. This is after returning from Japan for the second time after seeing the ladies in concert. First at Tokyo Garden Theater and now Yokohama Arena. Both times I visited Miku's old Maid Café. And various BAND-MAID MV locations. At the Maid Café I got to sit the chair behind the Maid in the opening sequence of the MV "Afterlife". I love this band so much to have faced my problems and traveled to the other side of the world to see them LIVE in their own country. Long May They Reign!. 👑
Without Miku there would be no Band Maid. Miku is Band Maid. She found four people that all shared her qualities of passion, dedication and the ability to do whatever needs to be done for the music. There are no egos in Band Maid. Thank you Miku. Daydreaming next please.
Thrill is easily the most consequential song in the band’s history to date. Without it there would be no Band Maid. A fate I shudder to imagine.
Miku had a vision and is the driving force to the Maids going overseas.
I'll say it again, I can't pick a favorite maid. But Kobato is the most inspirational. If you'd have told me before that my life would be influenced so much, in my 60's no less, by a Japanese girl in a maid outfit that says she's an 810 year old pigeon, I'd have laughed myself silly. But her determination is an example that when really examined is very, very powerful.
Miku cast her spell on me a long time before I heard my first Omaginai Time. I’m in my 50s. I have loved rock for decades. I have NEVER loved a band as much as I love BAND-MAID. Thank you Miku.

Miku said in a recent interview when asked how many people came to the audition, she replied nobody came. Seems like they were destined to be together.
A couple of comments ... Once Kobato has decided to do something, it gets done. She is a very determined person. It took awhile but once she decided to play guitar, it was happening. Yes, starting any instrument is frustrating. Most beginners give up. Even though her fingers hurt and maybe she wasn't contributing that much to the sound, she wasn't giving up. In the Nov. 26 2023 Yokohama Arena serving, she stood center stage under the spotight and played a new introduction to "Influencer." It was something almost everyone who plays rock would do - power chords at high volume, letting them ring out through the room. She turned just a little to get the feedback just before Akane kicked it off, and it's so fun!
But she's also willing to adjust and adapt to get what she wants. You notice when Saiki presented an ultimatum, she wanted her to be the singer more than she wanted the singer to wear an apron. Part of the reason the original five are still a band ten years later (which isn't all that common in the music business) are because they care so much for each other. They are all from different places, with different personalities and different economic circumstances, yet they are sisters in every sense of the word.
She seems to be an artist at heart - and she knows herself. She had the goal of being in the music business, and earned a spot in a trio. But she was willing to give that up to play music that was not as commercial but more heartfelt. It almost seems inevitable that she would be the lyricist. Her band are all excellent at expressing their emotions in music, and she has a real talent for poetics. I wish I knew Japanese and Japanese culture better so I could understand the subtleties in her writing. We rely on u/t-shinji for his expertise - and he provides an essential service for the fandom.
The young girl from Kumamoto named Mika Noguchi grew into the astounding talent as Miku Kobato. She earned it...and then went on to find 4 other girls to form the best live rock band in the world.
The instrumental you were bobbing your head to is called WITHOUT HOLDING BACK and it's really, really good. The Band Maiko EP is really good.

I have been to 2 live Band Maid concerts. Kobato's omajinai time is great for the fans. The MC is different for each show. It used to be Miku alone during the MC., but the other members of the band now get involved and their participation is meant to distract Miku during her MC. It is hilarious. Akane and Saiki are usually the ring leaders of the antics. The audience loves it and it actually raises the energy of the show. You have to get to at least one Band Maid concert to see what I'm talking about.
Yolo, Daydreaming, Influencer, would be a good order.

It's impossible to overstate how important t-shinji has been to English-speaking fans of the band. His translations and record-keeping are indispensible.
The song playing during the PUBG section was "Want More", a short instrumental demo that they uploaded as a limited-time download for free. It was a gift for fans on "The Day of Maid" which happens every 10 May.

"Thrill" will ALWAYS remain my favorite Band-Maid song for it being the one that saved them, and it was first song I ever heard by them......and is quintessential Band-Maid listening that defines their music and who they are as a band.
If you haven't experience Tokyo Jihen or Ringo Sheena yet, you probably ought to get that on your list!

Enka singers, predominantly women, usually perform in a kimono or in evening dress. Male enka performers tend to wear formal dress, or in some performances, traditional Japanese attire.

You said you hadn't checked out Daydreaming yet, K-Ross. It's what us old guys call a power ballad, and Mincho's guitar solo in it is both surprising (well, not now because I just told you) and epic. The solo alone can make you emotional but the whole song is just wonderful. Do the MV, is my recommendation.
One of my favorite guitar solos from Mincho. So powerful but so fitting to the song.

So, in Japan and many other countries, the word for pigeon includes pigeons and doves since they’re actually the same species only diverging due to size and coloration.
Miku is mostly talking about doves.
Po is a shortened version of Karuppo, which is a Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound doves make.
Daydreaming is always in my top 2. Depending on my mood. And I don't know if it still is, since there have been so many new songs since then, but it was Kanami's favorite in one of the interviews. Who am I to argue with Sensei Kanami. PO!!! 🕊
Loved the reaction, keep up the good work. I agree, Ohrenje did a fantastic job with the entire series. You know it's good content, when an hour and a half flies by before you know it. For most people, B-M is already amazing. For those who take the next step to learn about the band, good on them. To watch people have those moments of enlightenment which even furthers their understanding, appreciation, admiration and love of the Maids...is so moving to witness.
I hope you have the chance to see them in person soon. It's an experience. I don't think the Maids will be stopping anytime soon in my neck of the woods, so I have made my pilgrimage, like many others, to experience the awesomeness of Band-Maid live! Been on the rail, been on middle of the crowd and even further back in the balcony of some shows. It's all AMAZING!!! PO!!! 🕊 WORLD DOMINATION!!!🤘😆🤘

Enka, like the clip of Chindo Monogatari sung by Yoshimi Tenda, are traditional popular music from about 100 years ago. Old people music. Lots of super dramatic dirges about horrible tragedies befalling ordinary folk, etc. Kobato liking enka is kind of part of the joke of her being a middle aged bloke on the inside. But she clearly has genuine regard for the old and traditional stuff.
Some confusion over whether Kobato actually went to university? She at least applied to, and was accepted into, university, but in other accounts she has given she broke the news to her mum on her 18th birthday that she wasn't going to university, but to Tokyo to try to get into entertainment - and mum cried - but if that was on her 18th birthday there should not have been time for her to actually attend university?
Someone (t-shinji, maybe? or ericifune?) said it was her _19th_ birthday when she presented her "I want to move to Tokyo" proposal... and made her mother cry on her birthday. In any case, it was some time after the presentation that she quit university and actually moved away ... she had to work three jobs to earn enough money.

Miku was accepted into a local public university from Kumamoto's preparatory high school and headed to Tokyo in the fall of her first year. School starts in April in Japan. There is also a story that there was a time when Miku was working three part-time jobs and was saving up money to go to Tokyo, and that she did not attend enough days and had to take supplementary study. Miku attended university for about six months, from when she graduated from high school at the age of 18 until her 19th birthday. She probably took first semester credits. Kanami is the only one who graduated from a four-year university.
Gion Cho is the original Band-Maiko song that is a must as well as the rearranged song Awkward, which is called " Akasimahen. "

Lucky you. So many more great Band Maid songs to discover. When you get to YOLO, in addition to the MV, look for a short clip of Kanami playing it on solo piano. A big contrast. No link, the clip is floating around on the web.

There is a good chance that Band Maid saw these videos. Saiki and Miku had mentioned in the past that they watch reaction and covers of their songs. When I saw the concert in Dallas during Miku's birthday she confirmed that they were watching AntMusic and recognized Mr Rock and Roll in the audience. I would like to know if anyone else knows if they have been watching. I know about the younger lady that does guitar covers.

James, Kanami, Kirk and Miku learning and trading. Akane teaching Lars a few things (LOL) and MISA & ROB playing some really cool stupid shit..... it'll come-
If you react to YOLO, the official music video, I hope you also react to YOLO with a piano solo by Kanami. (Also on UA-cam) Influencer, the official music video contains everything we love about Band Maid, with a hip-hop vibe. "Daydreaming", the official music video, was the video that made me fall head over heels in love with Band Maid. It's a rock ballad that really showed the softer side of Band Maid. Band Maid is one of the few rock bands that can melt your face and then your heart during the same concert.

To say that Miku had no knowledge of guitars is a little bit of a stretch. Her idol, Sheen Ringo, had a song with a Rickenbacker 625 in the lyrics. So her picking the 620 is either a huge coincidence, or was don deliberately, either conscientiously or subconsciously.
Not a stretch at all. Choosing an instrument because someone you admire has one isnt knowledge based at all. Its really all you know. My first guitar was a Gretsch my mom got me in1967 (I was 8) all because Mike Nesmith played one on TV. Great guitar but it didnt have the sound I wanted. It took me 10 years to find my brand that suited me after going through Gretch, Fenders, many off-brands, and finally played a Les Paul...that was the one and that continues to this day. What Im saying is that my decisions were not based on knowledge but on looks and what certain artists used. It wasnt until I gained knowledge that Gibson became my brand.
It would seem you have a lot of catching up to do... But don't worry - it's a fantastic journey to go on!

Mika Himawari/Little Pigeon Miku! Mika Noguchi is Miku Kobato's real name. "YOLO" would be My choice as it is My go-to song for MISA Magic.
Yolo MV first, then Daydreaming, then Influencer. Then, another song you liked in the 4th section of this, was Bubble - it's a great song! Do the MV of that one. Then, the new to you Band Maiko song they played, still on their channel, called Gion Cho. Great great song. (I mean, do they make any other kind?}
