@JOE IS DRIVIN SUNNY FLORIDA self check out has line too. Not as long as cashier, but still long. You can do scan n go as you walking around. It saves so much time.

Nah, in the future, you will EZ-Pass overhead like on the highway. As you walk out the door, your whole cart gets scanned via RF; this is a stop-gap measure until the technology catches up.

@@Critique808 Amazon has since halted the technology due to losses. The tech is basically this Sam's approach but without anyone checking you on the way out. Easier for people to steal stuff and the tech costs a lot. We are a ways off.

so, i assume that the Sam's Club employee at the door scans your code, and then the items you paid for in the app appear as a list on their device so they can ensure that you paid for all of them. I just rejoined Sam's Club after many many years and as I recall they used to review your paper receipt and compare it to the contents of your cart.
Bit delayed but for anyone who might see this comment, they do not check all of your items. When they scan your barcode on your phone it asks them to scan just a few items to verify it's the same card. Today I spent $320. They scanned 3 of my 31 items.
Sheetz has this also. But I'm afraid if I do this, I'll feel like I'm stealing. Even though I paid with app, I'll feel awkward just walking out with stuff. There's no one checking you app on your way out.
There is. The workers who check your receipt will check your bar code on the APP. Nothing to worry about.
My bananas there are ALWAYS green ? Why do they ger rid of the ripe ones ? I was TOLD this by one of the workers.

The app told me I couldn't use the scan and go with an invitation to join membership. Said use a register.

I don't have the app (or Sams membership.......yet.....)....but am I wrong in thinking it would probably be easier and more efficient to just scan the stuff as I'm taking them off the shelves and putting in the cart????? The guy took as long to pick and scan and replace as standing in a line and getting checked out....

Yes. The APP can shows your membership. You don't need to carry the physical card in your wallet.
Well... not really jsut as at my local Home Depots, yo make the line, pay, and then make another line where some employees match the items in your cart with the ticket.
I think it will be the same at my local Sams club, we will just skip the chashiers line and end up in a longer line at the exit where Sams employees will check one by one if all items had been paid

It does not, as long as you are logged in, and type in the correct CVV of your card, and you can checkout.

how do you get a paper receipt for your records?

i would screenshot the smartphone screen with your receipt and send it to a computer. Then i would print it out.
What is the reason for paper. The digital receipt is on your phone forever, unlike paper, you may lose it.

I'm assuming you never use self checkout at grocery stores in that case?
Alternatively, the people who used to be cashiers can now check items at the door, be used to stock more groceries, or used elsewhere in the store so it is more efficient. 😉
