I’ve had oil tested for 20 years. Since I learned what it can tell us. I once had aluminum, silicone with two other ingredients show in a test, they suggested changing the air filter, on the next test it showed good with a simple air filter change. In our northern Alberta Canada winter cold, I’ve often had to turn on n off the glow plugs a dozen times for the glow plugs to even start working, another dozen times before I even tried starting the motor at 40-60 below 👇
I once read a 50’s military book on cooling n lube components of a motor. It suggested the oil cycles about 100 bath tub equivalents in about one ☝️ minute. That happens to be about the same time they started adding oil filters to engines.
Watching this video gives me an even greater respect for testing done by Project Farm! His creativity in developing accessible analogues for these very fancy and expensive machines is very impressive!
This series has been an absolute gold mine of information and learning. Both of the Amsoil guys speak very well and present a huge amount of credibility. Special thanks to Amsoil for allowing such a comprehensive behind the scenes visit and explaining in such depth. A real credit to all parties
I work in a Tribology lab (testing used oils etc) and this video made so much sense, was pleasing to watch and eye opening to see similar equipment to what i have been maintaining and using. One big difference is they have more toys to address the needs of product development. 😊 Thank you for producing it.
This has been a FANTASTIC series!! I've been buying Amsoil for nearly 15 years now - it's great reassurance that I made the correct decision after watching all of these videos! Can't wait for the next one!
4:18 The instrument is an ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer). The plasma temperature is between 6000 K and 10000 K...much hotter then 3000 C. It has to be that hot to effectively ionize all the cations in the sample.
Loving this series! Thanks guys. Keep them coming! I've been a Pennzoil fan for a long time but have slowly been using more and more Amsoil products in the past year.
@@Olds_Pwr I don't disagree, at the same time however I've seen high mile engines that look very very nice with oils like penzoil and amsoil and I've seen high mile engines with others that haven't looked so nice. They all get up there, some just do better than others
@@Olds_Pwr yep, they have all dramatically improved over the years. I typically run to 250k- 300k miles before selling my vehicles. Have yet to ever need to replace an engine! Happy New Year
I live in Minnesota and I am very familiar with AMSOIL brand. I am also a mechanical engineer by training and trade. I was not aware of the extensive R&D effort and quality control put forth by this company. Thank you AMSOIL for letting Gale Banks, an industry giant that I respect deeply, to tour and film your plant and processes. If the purpose of this video was to inform and gain new customers, you succeeded admirably. Mr. Banks, I think it is safe to assume that you use AMSOIL products in your products, and for that I applaud you. Thank you and your team for putting in the time and effort to inform your customer base about these great products and synthetic lubricants in general. I learned something new today.
I appreciate this video, I appreciate the attention to detail amsoil puts in... but I'm not going to fall under some illusion that the other brands don't do the exact same thing.
The extremes that they put these oils through is fascinating, temps and pressures that you'd hope your engine or equipment never sees. Love these videos.
I have studied oils for years to use in a mixed fleet and this adds so much more knowledge to that base. I recently upgraded to the Banks diff cover and changed over to the Amsoil fluid that I purchased with the kit. I did this on a cooler day and was dreading the amount of time it was going to take to install the 85-140 fluid back in from previous experience. I was pleasantly surprised at the quick flow rate and quick empty of the containers to a drip dry type of empty. Knowing that Amsoil has always been a premium product was quickly confirmed and this video series further demonstrates that the products are designed and tested to ensure longevity of my vehicles and equipment, potentially being cheaper in the long run. Thanks for going next level with this series.
I love to see the engineering and testing that goes into these products, both Amsoil and Banks products. Thanks for the great videos and keep them coming.
This is better than anything on tv! I use amsoil in everything I have and this just shows amsoil tests everyone’s oil against their own. You can’t go wrong with a company that always strives to be the best and are the best hands down👍👍👍. Gale is just the best! Keep up the great work!
That's it. I'm a believer. Amsoil from now on. I knew that the right type of engine oil was important for the longevity of the engine, and i knew that not all engine oils are created equally. But after watching these episodes with Gale and the Amsoil team, I now realize how little i knew. Most importantly, I now know what brand of engine oil to use. Thanks you Amsoil team and Gale Banks for the education.
Yup, AMSOIL for sure. Also proves that asking the opinion of a mechanic is a waste of time. This is the level of engineering where that question gets answered. Still have mad respect for mechanics for the challenging work that the honest ones perform.
Thank you Sir! Excellent presentation and answers a lot of questions, even to engineers and petrolheads ( like me)! I have been using AMSOIL 5-30 in my bikes for some time now. Have done extensive research to get here, but your video sums everything I have found ( here and there) all in a 20 minute video! Thank you so much. Respect!
This is an excellent series! Thank you, Gale and Amsoil for them. I am even more convinced to keep using Amsoil in my 2006 LLY Duramax and I will be changing to Amsoil in my generator, quad, and lawn mower, too.
