it is an amazing video, I wish more people would understand what hunting is all about, unfortunately most people think it is killing for sport, but it is the absolute opposite , hunting is a spiritual connection with nature, it is innate in all of us, but a lot of people don't know how to unleash that bond with nature, because the society fogs their mind, and heart to see it, and feel it. please keep those videos coming we love them. Thank you

You captured the essence of bird hunting in a great way. It’s about the tradition and fellowship that makes it special. Thank you.

Well done, in this day of numbers and metrics, it so refreshing to hear about the pure joy of just being outdoors , regardless of whetheror not you harvest a bird . Thanks guys

After watching 'Camp Thunderbird', I joined as a dual RGS-AWS member and also Pheasants Forever. I use DT system for my dog and I see you are sponsored by CZ. I own a CZ-75 SP-01 and it is the best 9mm I have ever shot. Shotguns.........well I tend to go back in time. 1935 and 37 to be exact. Fox Sterlingworth from 35 and Ithaca NID from 37 ; both in 16 gauge. Tradition, I guess. I shoot extremely well with O/U shotguns, and started with a 870 Wingmaster in 12 Gauge. But I have always wanted to go traditional on Grouse. SxS and the gauge that was the best during the Depression.
It is also lighter in weight and is much livelier between the hands than a 12 bore but much less whippy than a 20. Both my guns weigh around 6 and a half pounds.
    OK,......back to the video.
1:27 to 1:47.....exactly! It is about the hunt, not about the kill. The time and sweat you put in to put ole Ruff up and see nothing but Birches.........frustrating, but ultimately satisfying.
2:20.....You aint in Kansas anymore, bro! This kind of walking will kill you flatlanders if you try too hard. You count your Grouse hunt by how many Birches you chopped down.
    HEHEHE
This hunting rewards the snap-shooter and the quickest of eyes and reflexes. Smaller gauges work well in these scenarios because they are easier and quicker to point and shoot.
Of course for me, I go with 16 gauge. Same load as a standard low-brass 12 bore, but faster and a slightly longer shot string. And a lot less weight in gun and shells.
I would not live in New Hampster. Too restrictive with their gun laws. Very small areas to be able to hunt in. And my accent sounds funny to you people.
'I live my life for October.' That is the sign of a true hunter.
11:26.......And now you have been bitten by the bug. Sorry for your life. You will now chase the Ruffed Rocket for the rest of your life.
Welcome to the Lodge of Grouse. We have been expecting you.
Now get rid of that Turkish gun and get a great American Double. Or not.

Great video once again. I am so glad that I have gotten back into woodcock hunting last couple of years. Having a friend with a dog helps. His dog is a lab that has been working out very well. He doesn't point ("flush points"), but that doesn't matter for us. We know when he is on a bird. We are very fortunate to live in the Acadiana area of south Louisiana and have access to a lot of public land in the Atchafalaya Basin. This area has a lot of great spots just a couple minutes walk from the truck.

Nothing against woodcock I love hunting them as well, But the ruffed grouse is the hardest of all game birds to hit. The true king of game birds...

I hunted grouse and woodcock around the Great Lakes, where our cover was based on aspen, alder and similar vegetation. Seems so strange to see folks hunting around conifers. We have conifers here, too, but that isn't where we find birds. Anyway, I enjoyed the video.

It's 100% about being outside and letting your dog do it's thing. No flushes, no shots no problem.

Watch the dog. Come on man. My Ryman is high point on grouse and low point on woodcock. When dog is on point I usally know what she up on. Big bells can cause lose of hearing to. I use a smaller bell on my dog.
