It would be interesting to see a version where they can both track each other and can catch each other at any time, but whoever has the most points when they meet wins the task, so they have to gamble that they're in the lead when they start trying to find each other
What I find very entertaining is how Tom, who is usually quite logical and good with strategy, did not stop to think that Arun might be in one of the shops ( when his location indicated he was somewhere and Tom couldn't see him), given what the task list was.
Remember that he got an update that was 5 minutes old. Considering Tom knew Arun knew he was being tracked and would stay in places as short as possible (which is what had been happening the entire time before), Tom could not have know Arun was standing still. @@InShortSight For more fairness in this scenario, I think they could just implement an ordering element to the goals. The very specific tasks like the Robin Hood statue could still be a free choice one, but things like shopping for clothes, feed ducks and recite a line of Shakespeare could be a set list of tasks that have to be done in a specific order. So if the tagged person chooses to do those, the chaser has a chance of getting the upper hand at some point
Also. I personally think the real security/privacy flaw in this product is that you could slip the tag in someone's backpack and find out where they live just by checking the location at the end of the day. It might not be great for tracking someone in real-time. But it can definitely be abused by stalkers
@@qkffn5118 they should start emitting a noise if they’re too close to another iPhone, and there should also eventually be a pop up notifying you abt the AirTag. It’s not perfect tho

This was great. Now I want one with ZERO home turf advantage. A major city with public transit and well-known landmarks, but that neither knows well. Edinburgh? Glasgow? Or outside the UK, Paris?
I love this game of tag they've got going on. But it always just felt a bit off whenever they'd remark how difficult live-tracking someone with an AirTag is. I mean, its mostly true, especially if they only have an hour as they've shown. But I always expect Tom to contextualize that with how stalkers could use them to track stationary positions much easier over time (work, home, coffeeshop). It just feels a little too close to downplaying people's fears about stalkers using AirTags. Which has happened a bunch. Enough that you'd think there'd be a mention of it, when the framing is so similar, multiple times a video even. I still enjoy what is essentially grown-up tag though.
Apple has already thought of that. The tags are designed to alert you if they have been following you. It takes longer than an hour but it automatically triggers the alert if you reach a notable location you have stored in Maps such as your Home. Only issue is that it only applies to iPhone users.
What a chase! Any chance of a part 3 with both of you tracking each other’s AirTag? Or something with one tracing a Tile and the other chasing an AirTag.
A sequel where the runner has a more realtime tracker on them would be fascinating (maybe something custom with a fixed 30 or 60 second delay would help keep it more interesting?)
It kinda shows the shortcomings of airtags in that, since they rely on other phones to update the location, they're far less effective in less densely populated regions. That's probably the biggest difference between this video in Nottingham and the last in London. It's also going to be impacted by the phones people use, for example if you live in a country where more people have android phones, you're less likely to get updates.
Really exciting to watch as a Notts lad. Seeing just how close they get at some points. Arun walking past Waterstone while Tom is as Broadmarsh is great.
I'm so glad there's a sequel to this, the last one was so enjoyable to watch! Tom is the only person I know that puts a lot of effort into both his main and second channels, the content is always great on both!
Seeing tom so confused about how Arun is moving around so quickly just makes me giggle a bit, nottinghams such a small city centre and it's surprising how fast you can get around with all the side streets and alleyways that snake through the city
Tom DID technically get closer to catching then .... the camera operators never met whenhe was on the run. and hats of to the camera operators for not giving it away.
It would be interesting to see a 'rematch' but using an actual GPS tracker. These are generally more expensive than the airtags, and some either need a sim card or a subscription. But it would be cool to see if those have more precision. Those also have more scary potential because they don't alert your iphone that an airtag is nearby...
But like, what's the point tho? It probably heavily favors the hunter since the gps has live tracking (instead of the 5 min ago ping like Airtag), the hunter would just easily intercept the prey on the road, and the prey wouldn't have a chance to hide since he doesn't know where the hunter is
An entertaining episode, and one that raises awarenesss about how can track you at the same time. Could you do one where Tom plays detective and learns as much as he can about some random person (who's on your team and gives consent, obviously), like their location, interests, their day to day movements, etc., from information that can be bought online? Could be an exciting episode and also good awareness-raising. Not sure exactly how to make it entertaining, though.
Problem is, you can't buy just individual info, its all aggregated data that you need to combine. Prolly not cost effective to find info just one single individual. Ad companies are using that for info about lots of individuals.
Tom did a video a few years ago (I can't find it at the moment) where he actually had a randomly pulled Facebook profile and live on stage correctly guessed a man's location, favorite sports team and occupation from just a glance at the page. Scary to think with all the advances since then how much companies know about you.

The final location was also a pub so Carhunt had that going for it too.
Even if youre on the same street you wil likely miss your target as you are panicking and running. I concur.
"no way he doesnt know where we are"
"i have no idea where he is"
props to the editor, that was brilliant
Arun's confidence when he's the one being chased is hilarious when you compare it to how paranoid and jumpy Tom was.
I think one important point that is overlooked here is that Arun knew he was being chased and stayed at locations as little as possible.
And still almost got caught.
It wasnt overlooked, but it wasnt mentioned in this video, but in the last.
Yes, in next episode, there should be a rule about deliberately preventing tracking.
As an American, I was just amazed at how you found a town you could run around in like that. We have walk able main streets, but generally no walkable areas off that one street. This is fantastic, and now I need to watch NotJustBikes and get angrier at our local city planning
That’s every city here, we don’t have any city’s like you do
I mean, both times I visited NYC, I walked everywhere...
@@IceMetalPunk NYC is very much an anomaly though.
Watching NotJustBikes must me infuriating as an American 💀
you can do that in literally any town
Arun: "Did you see him"
Camera Op: " I'm not allowed to tell you."
Arun: " So, that's a yes then."
This was great. Now I want one with ZERO home turf advantage. A major city with public transit and well-known landmarks, but that neither knows well. Edinburgh? Glasgow? Or outside the UK, Paris?
Somewhere with a big Xmas Market (like Birmingham) for a special edition filmed in December.
Paris would be good - Find Tim Traveller...
@chuggs What makes you think there's more iPhones in the US?
There’s a reason why Apple refuses to let Android have iMessage, and it’s because it’s apparently very very popular in the US
I love this game of tag they've got going on.
Tom Scott vs 5 hunters Grand Finale Rematch
They do it in a place none of them is familiar with in order to keep it as impartial as possible.
A sequel where the runner has a more realtime tracker on them would be fascinating (maybe something custom with a fixed 30 or 60 second delay would help keep it more interesting?)
@@netjeff
The very existence of a real-time tracker that could be secreted onto someone’s person or belongings is terrifying.
@@The-official-grindel taking place in the catacombs of France.
9:42 Where Tom gets utterly pissed 😂
It kinda shows the shortcomings of airtags in that, since they rely on other phones to update the location, they're far less effective in less densely populated regions. That's probably the biggest difference between this video in Nottingham and the last in London.
It's also going to be impacted by the phones people use, for example if you live in a country where more people have android phones, you're less likely to get updates.
Nothing like the crushing anxiety of seeing Tom SO CLOSE to Arun at the shops.
7:18
Tom: _crouches behind a tree_
Camera op: _stands back and points camera at tree_
14:11 HAD ME DYING
Tom learning that the broadmarsh doesn't exist any more is my favourite moment
Really exciting to watch as a Notts lad. Seeing just how close they get at some points. Arun walking past Waterstone while Tom is as Broadmarsh is great.
The sequel we've all been waiting for 😌
The sequel I never knew I needed.
Yes
Agreed
I love this episode, seeing Arun just rolling and getting all those tasks while Tom was panicking was hilarious. I hope there's part 3!
I'm so glad there's a sequel to this, the last one was so enjoyable to watch!
Tom is the only person I know that puts a lot of effort into both his main and second channels, the content is always great on both!
14:06 This scene is perfect!
I actually love this idea, wouldn't mind it becoming a series playing the game in different cities in the UK.
check out Jet Lag - The Game here on youtube. The latest series is playing a game of tag across europe, while completing challenges
What I've learned: You can't win a game of tag by using an AirTag, but you can have a lot of fun getting your cardio in by trying to
It would be interesting to see a 'rematch' but using an actual GPS tracker. These are generally more expensive than the airtags, and some either need a sim card or a subscription. But it would be cool to see if those have more precision.
Those also have more scary potential because they don't alert your iphone that an airtag is nearby...
They could just share live location on WhatsApp.
But like, what's the point tho? It probably heavily favors the hunter since the gps has live tracking (instead of the 5 min ago ping like Airtag), the hunter would just easily intercept the prey on the road, and the prey wouldn't have a chance to hide since he doesn't know where the hunter is
As a local it was sideplitting comedy seeing Tom stop and stand where there used to be a shopping centre 2 years ago
I really hope they keep making these in different locations, they’re so incredibly suspenseful.
I love the fact that the camera ops saw each other and didn't let on!
Now we just need a roller coaster sequel, and we’re complete

"I'm being chased... for a challenge. I'm safe. I promise." was funny!
I think the problem is that it would be a bit unethical to then share that data in a video
Tom did a video a few years ago (I can't find it at the moment) where he actually had a randomly pulled Facebook profile and live on stage correctly guessed a man's location, favorite sports team and occupation from just a glance at the page.
Scary to think with all the advances since then how much companies know about you.
@@theglimpse3785 That sounds like something he'd do for one of his old scripted "this is a bad future"-what-if type of videos where he never acknowledges in the video that is what he's doing
That's a similar premise to "I know what you did five minutes ago", an old talk he did
As someone who lives near Nottingham, when Tom said he was heading to the Broadmarsh my instant response was "you're going back in time?". Very interesting to watch, I could work out where Tom was at any given time far easier than where Arun was.
I honestly thought this was going to be boring with how long the airtag updates but holy, middle part onwards was intense
That was actually quite lively and entertaining to watch. Well done both of you. EDIT: I just thought of something. You should do one of these in a city/town that *neither* of you have been to before. :D
A sequel to one of my favourite concepts you’ve done on this channel. My lucky day
this could be a game show, it's very watchable. and they could mix it up with different places and tasks
toms incompetence and that lovely store assistant is the best combo
That was so cool. It's like every time Arun was so chill and Tom just panics.
Seeing Tom react to the AirTag & task updates is hilarious 😂
Alternative title: Tom Scott slowly fading into insanity, confused running around, screaming at his phone
14:28 Tom gives us so many memeable moments in this video 🥰
I would like to thank you again Tom for making accessible subtitles, they are a worth investment and you are appreciated very much.
...oh gods, it's been six months since that last video? I need to sit down for a second.
It’s funny because Arun had already unintentionally mimicked the Robin Hood statue
This needs to be done in a city where neither person knows. knowing where things are gives an advantage
This is such a great concept, and I love how your commentary bounces of each other. Knowing they went to a pub right after together makes me feel warms and fuzzy inside.
lets remember the problem is a creep can find out where you live, they work great for static locations when not on a foot pursuit
I was sceptical about this channel when it launched, but it has produced some of the most entertaining videos I've ever watched. The editing is great, Arun was great, Gavin the slow-mo guy was great, and I can't wait to see who's going to be great next.
It's clearly Tom's way of having tax-deductible fun and I am 100% okay with that.
13:20 So close 😄 Arun could've just got the hat and called it good but maybe changing was a good idea
This needs to be turned into a series, it’s absolutely amazing
This absolutely has to become a recurring thing! I just love the personalities on you two, love the thrill of the chase, the techy side, the whole thing!
"im being chased" is the perfect thing to say while checking out with an incognito cloak
This just looks like a fun game to play in general with your friends
I would LOVE to see the Tech Dif crew split up in pairs doing this challenge!!! This is SO much fun to watch!! Excellent editing and WELL DONE, both of you!
I assume Gary would both have an advantage, and also spend most of the time swearing his lips off 😂
I’d love to see this too but unfortunately I think all of them except Tom are too out-of-shape nowadays for all the running they need to do.
Chris would solve all the tasks at the drop of a hat.
@@IceMetalPunkBut Gary may also struggle to get everything completed in time. And if he gets found, how coupd he ever get away?
After all, he is built for leisure, not for speed.
Love how it ended the same as the last with "Let's go to the pub!" At the end.
Very much appreciate the captions using different colors, and even a couple indicators of tone! This should absolutely be the standard on UA-cam
19:48 Something about the lighting when the camera turns here to face Arun makes it looks like it's a shot from like Grand Theft Auto or something
You're right! The lighting looks computer generated there
I wonder how many seekers you’d need hunting 1 person for it to swing the favor of the seekers. Obviously, if some shady government types were tracking your air tag, they’d probably send more than one agent. Great vid as always, Tom. Can’t wait to see part 3 with every UA-camr on the face of the earth hunting Mr Beast.
The new season of Jet-Lag the game has two seekers and a live tracker, but they play across a LOT more space
This feels like it could be a show. Just get two people and you can do this in any city.
absolutely love the different colors for the CC on this video btw :) thx for the great captioning
I love these air tag tracking videos, I hope you decide to do a third round, perhaps in a place where neither contestant has a sizable homefield advantage
i love the contrast of fun mischief from Arun’s perspective to deepening confusion and light psychological horror on tom’s end
14:18 ‘Broadmarsh is gone…’ *This is the moment Tom Scott’s childhood is SHATTERED! 😂
I will never get over how hilariously Tom runs
The original Airtag video is one of my favourites on this channel for a number of reasons, glad to see it get a follow-up!
4:03 technically Arun could've gotten a 2-in-1 by saying he mimicked the Robin Hood statue.
This was actually really entertaining I’d love to see this done with other types of trackers.
What a chase! We need a part 3. Kudos to the camera operators and editing team!
Arun: "there's no way he doesn't know where we are"
Tom: "I've got NO idea where he is"
the cinematography for "broadmarsh is gone!" was perfect
Was the airplane mode Arun was using during this a legal move? I don't remember tom doing that on his run.
He turned his phone off which I believe produces the same effect
@@basementboi4620 Was his phone off? Wasn't the list of tasks on the phone?
I think Tom did
@@DerringerHK yes but i think he turned it off everytime he didn't need it
Woah, these subtitles have color, are on the right, on the left, congrats to whoever makes the subtitles.
