- Something about being isolated at home gave me the confidence to try cutting my own hair. Brilliant, I know. But honestly, this was so fun. I would highly recommend giving yourself a haircut as a way to pass the time. I mean, as long as you aren't too emotionally tied to your hair and are okay with the idea of a... not great result as an option haha. I mean, I didn't know how to give myself a pixie cut, but here we are! I think a haircut from home is just the thing to do right now.
Mainly, I just wanted to document this experience because I feel like if you're going to cut your own hair, why not record it right?

You are just adorable. I am 64 and have wore a pixie cut since I was 8. I've cut my own hair since I was 10. My husband helps me now. But clippers have made it so much easier. You can use a 2nd mirror behind you to see what you are doing. Bless your heart sweety. I love your hair cut! I'm headed in the bathroom to cut my hair before showering and heading to church.

First off, you're my hero lol second this was highly entertaining, third I think it turned out fantastic! I have just recently done this myself, and Im not kidding, it was the best haircut of my life and Im 53. I just knew exactly what I wanted and somehow I know how to cut hair really well with zero training. I used the clippers on the sides and back just like you did and I used scissors for the top as well. I truly love it. The only thing I did different was I pulled the top into a ponytail when I cut the sides and back, it kept everything out of my way up there and made it easy to cut everything else. Well done Heather, you should be proud of your cut =)

I've been cutting my hair for some time but in a bob shape. Which is a bit easier, but seeing how you did your pixy (a style I love and wore for 5 years, but by a proffesional) I'm getting the vive to try it myself this time. I could see how nervous you were and totally get it , can be nerve wraking sometimes (laughing with you the whole time) But the whole time I thought you were going really well, taking your time and going for the shape you wanted. I am a much older lady than you, have had my share of hair styles from pixie to waist length, highlights to full color, now back to embracing natural color with gray coming in. I’ve done things to my hair I was proud of as well as regretted. May I just say that considering how casual your approach to this was, not ocd about sections, it came out great. And yeah, there wasn't a ton of pressure when I was cutting it because we were all locked down anyway, so it wasn't like I was going anywhere anyway haha, and hair grows back! I did have a very fun time doing it, and since then have honed it to look even a little better (in my opinion)! Yooooo, I hope it goes well! Keep in mind that when you have a drastic hair change it can take a week or two for your brain to get used to how your face looks with the new look. Personally I always have an adjustment period when I go short again, at first I'm kinda sad and don't entirely like it and then my brain realizes I'm still me and I love it haha XD

I love my hair long as does my husband who cuts my hair for me, but I have a couple friends that like their hair very short. Last Saturday I had a couple friends of mine that stopped by to hang out on the deck, have burgers and wine coolers. My best friend usually has my husband trim her mid back length hair, so when she asked if he could give her a trim, that was nothing out of the usual. He got his tools and she took a seat on the stool, got caped and he trimmed her. My other friend mentioned that she needed her hair cut as it has been close to four months and the bangs in her eyes and the mullet thing she has going on in the back is driving her crazy. She usually got her hair cut every 3-4 weeks. Her hair looked pretty much like yours before the haircut. She asked if he could cut short hair as it is harder than trimming long hair. I told her he gives my teen boys their haircuts every three weeks using the clippers. She saw my boys and said that their haircuts look really good, so if he is willing, she will chance it. So he caped her and asked how she wanted her hair cut, she said short! Like around my ears short. He said he could, and mentioned that he could do it with the clippers if she was ok with him using the clippers on her hair. She said please do as that is how her stylist always cut her hair. So he basically gave her the same haircut as my older son, but with leaving it longer on top with bangs, using the clippers with different attachments, the shears over comb on top and the peanut clippers to do her neckline. My son used the shopvac to clean up the pile of hair. I thought it looked like a lot of hair. He uncaped her and she went to the bathroom to inspect her new haircut, I gave her a hand mirror to check the back. She was pleased, she said he did a great job, better than what she usually paid $40 for. She asked if she could book her next appointment and offered to pay him. He refused, he never takes money from any of my friends for haircuts. I told her that she was welcome to come back for a haircut, just bring wine next time. I told her that I like a sweeter wine, hubby said he prefers a Chardonnay or a Merlot. She said she would bring a bottle of each. She texted me that she got compliments on her hair from a couple coworkers and they asked her how far she had to drive to get a haircut. She said she had a friend cut it, and they asked if he would take appointments. I told her I was not comfortable with that but I will tell hubby that he had admirers of his work.
That's fantastic! And I love the visual of having a bbq our back along with random haircuts going on, that is just a great time with friends if you ask me! Your husband should be really proud of himself, I feel like it's harder than it should be to get a good short haircut as a girl haha=)
It is not just getting a nice haircut if you have short hair, but really any length. I have a Facebook friend that is a hairdresser, and about four years ago I posted pictures of my boys after hubby gave them their haircuts. She commented that they looked great and that she wished that she knew how to use the clippers to cut boy’s hair. A “licensed professional “ . I didn’t say anything about it in return, but was thinking, how can she be charging people for haircuts if she doesn’t know how to use the tools? Surely she must have ladies/girls come into her shop that would want short haircuts. These are the customers that would be regulars if they want their hair kept short. Short hair requires regular haircuts to keep the shape. So I can see why my friend that has short hair was so eager to have my hubby continue to cut her hair. My best friend’s daughter arrived home to visit last night, and she was talking to her mom about her hair needing to be cut, but the salons are closed. My friend texted me and asked if hubby would be willing to cut her daughter’s hair. I told him he has a loyal following and a special request. He laughed and said ok. My friend stopped by with her daughter and he asked how many fingers worth as he held up four fingers. She said eight, he said that is a good six inches, are you sure? She said yes, she had colored her hair and had uneven layers that were pretty dry and damaged, she wanted her hair cut all the same length. So he held the comb where he planned to cut, and I took the picture pre-haircut. She said to take it up a couple more inches. He said ok, and he cut her hair. She loved the results, she said that she really needed that. She was very happy. Well she posted her updated look on Facebook and two of her friends posted, why didn’t you invite me along?
So hubby got his ego stroked. I don’t want him getting swelled head, but being he does a great job for free, I think he is entitled to get compliments on his handiwork.
That's so awesome! It's great that he has such an important skill and can help so many of your friends! It really is baffling to think about the mass of people who are "professional hairstylists" that don't really know how to do some common haircuts, the world is a crazy place. But I guess it makes it all the more special when we can do it ourselves too!
Yes, being able to do it for yourself is a great thing. Being you cannot do the back yourself, but need your husband to get it for you, maybe he would be willing to step up and learn how you want your hair cut and be able to do your monthly haircuts for you. I do suggest that you invest in a decent cape, it makes cleanup easier, keeping the itchy hairs from getting imbedded in your clothes. Hubby trims my hair every couple months, but I would suggest that if you plan to keep your hair short, that you get on a monthly schedule. And have him watch some videos on how to do the scissor over the comb cutting technique on your longer hair on top. He may just do an awesome job for you. At least you know that he is going to listen to you and he will get better with experience.

Ya got balls, girl! I decided, so do I! I’ve been razor-cutting my pixie for about a year (my ‘COVID-cut). Doing good with that so today I bought a clipper & some longer guards, gonna do that the day the day they get here, razor for some texture at the end. Watching videos like yours gives me balls too, so thanks for that! 👍🏻

I believe in you! I got to the point where I figured hair grows back and I'm not really even going out, so why not give it a go right? I feel like in some ways it's easier to do for yourself because you know what you like! I do think there's a little transition period where you get used to the new way your face is framed haha

I think as long as you have a long enough guard on the clippers it would be impossible to get a bald spot! I would encourage trying at least once, having the power to keep up on my hair has been an awesome thing, I love it so maybe you would too

Looks great, I have short hair and we are in lockdown again in Ontario Canada so I am now doing what I did last March, trimming my hair every week to keep the length short especially around my ears, hubby does the back by my neck every two weeks, to thin out my hair on top ,with a guard on I reverse the razor face down once a month to do the top of my hair and sides, it works pretty good on my thick hair and I trim my bangs on an angle, goal is maintenance its more difficult to keep up your hairdo if you let it grow in too much......I have wavy hair so no one can notice my mistakes.
That's brilliant! You're on more of a schedule than I am with your trimming, I just trim things up whenever something starts feeling too long haha=)

I want to cut my own hair and purchased the scissors today, but after you use the clippers with a 8 setting, I want to get clippers which I think would make it much easier to trim the back and sides. You might want a texturizing thinning shear(scissor) to texturize the top of your hair and bangs at the tips of the 💇hair. You're doing such a great job, and im doing mine for the first time right after I finish this video, Thanks💈✂

@@HeatherBrookeiv Wow at least one positive thing about the lockdown.I know the upkeep of short hair can be really hard sometimes, because you have to get it trimmed so often. But now that you can do it at home this should no longer be a problem.

Yes, we used the no. 8 on the back as well! I actually go shorter now and I still love it! I also have a little cowlick at the back so I have to cut those extra short or they stand straight up haha
Take a chunk of the bangs, twist, trim straight across the bottom. You can do that all over the top to gently layer and blend the hair if you don't want to trim it the traditional way (which is also possible; check out tutorials on trimming short hair).

@@HeatherBrookeiv It's faster than point cutting and pretty much achieves the same results. Just don't trim off too much. You can always do it again if you want more layers.

Hi ya well what a palava that was, my brand new clippers turned out to be faulty!! Had to wait ages for replacement as everyone sold out. I've been debating getting a pixie cut for about a year now, but I am very tall (6ft) and broad shoulders, which I'm scared will make my head look ridiculously small.
Dude I just checked out your channel to see what you look like, and I think you could totally rock a pixie cut! I think you'll want a cut with a little more volume on top (kinda like I did), but I think you'd look SO GOOD. The only thing I'd keep in mind, is that it can make you feel sad when you cut your hair short because there's a lot less options of how to style it, and when you see a super cute fancy look you might feel bummed because your hair is too short to do that (at least that's how I felt sometimes when I first cut it). But like, I also never actually did anything with my hair so it was definitely the right move for me personally haha. Just things to consider!

@@HeatherBrookeiv So, I'm the person who made this comment four ish years ago, and I actually did end up getting a pixie cut that summer! I decided to grow it back out a few months later, but it was fun to have short hair for a little while :)
As of now, my hair goes an inch or two past my bra band :)
During the bang segment all I kept thinking was, God don't poke your eye out.
And I didn't! And it comes much more naturally now haha

Ahhhh yeah the back is the hard part! The bottom isn't so bad once you get the confidence but the top is tricky! I believe in you though haha

It is! I cut it while it was dirty so that's why it had volume haha. But my hair is clean in lots of future videos so you can see how my cut is holding up! I bet you can do it!
