He is talking straight out of heart. When the mind is uncluttered, vision gets perfect. So true, crores of young Indians today have nothing to talk about India other than Bollywood and castes. Because they are brainwashed in schools and by elitist media to believe the people of this land were civilised only by invaders and colonialists. The audience itself is the proof. He rightly called the first question a catastrophe. Actually the questioners too were all catastrophe.
Nationalism comes from shared vision of past glories, the past achievements, and the profound literature of the past. We got political freedom after 1000 years of subjugation, but the thinking remains shackled to this date due to colossal failure of the first political party to break out of the western mould . Nehru made himself popular by putting down the Indianness. To him scientific temper meant western ideas, not the vast knowledge of Vedas and Upanishads, not the excellence in classical dance and music , architecture , art, drama and literature perfected when the West was still living in caves. A culture which welcomed the persecuted , and alien faiths, is being lectured on minority and their rights. Any rational person would have questioned what was this minority concept, were these not always the people of this land , so what special rights they need to live here ? Thus got imported the irrelevant western concepts , and a constitution drawn up as though to bring civilisation to this land for the first time. Subsequent politicians made it into vote bank politics, and rootless liberals started pushing for zilch accountability on the part of individual but only unfettered personal rights. Fortunately , there is still the traditional hindus who relate to and profess their culture, and their numbers are significant. With a sensible government they will help this country to reclaim its glorious identity.

You are absolutely right. We still are slaves from an intellectual standpoint. We never got independence in that sense. Colonialism did not end. Western Indologists and many Indians themselves continued to mess with us even after independence. What has happened is truly tragic.

Even as a non-Hindu / non-Indian, I do have to agree to what François Gautier said. Indians should be proud of their own heritage and rich history and take back their own narrative from the westerners. One example: Hindi language books are so rare here in Europe and those available are written by Europeans (Rupert Snell) and not by Indians.

13:13 In Hinduism, birth based caste is a superstitious system, however Varna was the original system, in Varna there was no upper or lower, people chose the work of which they are qualified for and according to Bhagavad Gita, anyone can be a Brahman (Teacher, Scholar), Shatriya (Warrior, Army), Vaishya (Trader, Bussiness class), Shudra (Working class) based on knowledge and skills:
🔹In Bhagavad Gita 4:13, Krishna says that he created different Varnas (Profession) on the basis of one's Karma (Activity) and Guna (Quality).
🔹Bhagavad Gita 5:18 "The truly learned, with the eyes of divine knowledge, see with equal vision a Brahmin, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and a dog-eater"
🔹Bhagavad Gita 9:29 "I am equally disposed to all living entities: there is neither friend nor foe to Me: but those who with living sentiments render divotional service unto Me, such persons are in Me and I am in them."
🔹Bhagavad Gita 18:41 "The duties of the Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras are distributed in accordance with their guṇas (quality) and not by birth.
Caste is a Spanish and Portuguese word 'casta' which stands for 'Breed' or 'lineage'.
During earlier times Caste use to be Varna (Profession) and based on merit and not by birth, I can give you instances from the ancient times, where a so-called modern day "lower caste" moved to "upper caste", e.g. Guru Valmiki, Kabir Das was from a shudra family but became a brahmin based on merit, etc
and btw Ravana, his younger brother Kumbhakarna all were Brahmins knowledgeable person from Northern India but because of their notorious activities all were punished by Rama (believed to be an OBC if we abide by today's caste categorization).
Lastly, you have to understand the British motive behind imposing caste:
The Caucasians (Europeans) created Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda, Africa, to divide and control the native population, and for this reason, the Rwanda Genocide occurred.
The same attempts and inequalities Europeans also tried to create amongst Indians by separating Northern India and Southern India into "Aryans" VS "Dravidians" and further dividing Hinduism into 3,000 castes and 25,000 sub-castes.
And also read about Herbert Hope Risley who created casteism, racism in Indian society by one's facial features and skin color, and Bishop Robert Caldwell who propagated the "Aryan Invasion" in Southern India to convert "Dravidians" into Christianity.

3:00 "India inspite of many invasions was still the richest country in the world where there were practically no beggars" > the filthy caste system reduced the lower castes to a fate worse than beggars. What is Mr.Gautier talking about? Kaha se aata hai itna confidence?
3: 55 “I realized that this man (Shivaji) with a few hundred people in the centre of India, not many means. He stood against the most powerful man in the world at that time Mr.Aurangzeb” > Fact check: Shivaji did not have just a few hundred men when he started battling the Mughals and the powerful Aurangzeb
5:00 “He (Shivaji) created the first navy in India” > what is Mr.Gautier talking about? Hasn’t he heard of the Cholas and their navy?
14:45 “The Brahmins have been demonised so much……If you look at Brahmins today…… they are a minority.” What does one say to Mr. Gautier’s pearls of wisdom. Has he looked at study after study that talks about high Brahmin percentages in the bureaucracy, top leadership positions, in the press etc. Such narrow mindedness is something to be pitied.
18:00 “The first prime minister in the world was Indira Gandhi…. She ruled India for nearly 20 years” > fact check: he probably meant first woman prime minister. And Indira G was not even the world’s first female PM. That was S.Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka
20:15 “There were civilizations in India at least 10000 years old…….You need to ……get rid of the Aryan Invasion theory”. This man talks so much junk. The earliest known Indus Valley civilization is about 4500 years old and not 10000 yrs. And the Aryan Invasion Theory has been junked many decades ago. Next Mr. Gautier will tell us to get rid of the flat earth theory. I think the Indian audience and the comments on this video are giving him too much respect because he is a white man; they are in awe of the white man. Basically he is talking loads of rubbish and needs to be called out for that.
27:56 “a gentleman called Maharana Pratap ……the only Rajput who stood to the Mughals. All the other Rajputs either gave their daughters in marriage or submitted”. > How does this Gautier guy get any credibility? Rana Sangha and the Rajput army fought Babur, Akbar fought the Rajputs at Chittor just to give a few examples. This guy is an embarrassment. Just doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut.
    This man talks crazy.
This talk does not deserve to be part of the LitFest. It is riddled with errors, superficial thinking and lacking depth. Largely forgettable talk. Such speakers do not belong to LitFest list of speakers.

He just wanted to say, be proud of your own culture. He is not a historian, he was a journalist.
You are write about cholas having navy before marathas and before maharana pratap many rajputs faced mughals.
The topic of speech wasn't about marathas Or rajputs vs mughals.
It was about inculcating sense of pride or nationalism.
And caste reservation is really helping lower castes in India.

Indologist should unite their forces and teach Indians proper toilet habits. Too many people defacate outside because of silly beliefs about toilets (witches live in toilets, toilets kidnap children, toilet inside a house is unhygienic etc.). And they should do something to the cows wandering around.. It is 21st century after all.
