GI Joe OG Rock N Roll vs. Classified (Old vs New) | Unboxing and Review

We pit Rock N Roll against himself -- Original (OG) vs. Classified series. Rock N Roll was one of the original figures released by Hasbro. The new release sees a tattooed, badass version of the character. He even comes complete with a hand making the metal symbol.
We'll discuss our memories of the character, unbox and review the new figure and old and then pick which one is tops.

Rock N Roll and the Ram Cycle were my Christmas from my grandma in 1982 and I was hooked from then on. I love the classified versions of both of these.

They're really good for posing fight scenes or other inane stuff, and that's what they're for. I just got the classified series Rock n' Roll today on a whim, and instantly loved him the second I saw the box. Great video, boss!

I think the shuttles was a reference to G.I. Joe issue 8 where Cobra used robots called Sea Legs to attack the shuttle.

I think Rock N Roll's most notable appearance in the cartoon was during the Synthoid Conspiracy 2-part storyline, when he helped Mutt and Junkyard escape after the synthoid General ordered them to be executed.
My brother had this figure as a kid, but it was the second release with the "swivel arm battle grip" upgrade. I always thought he was a cool looking character, but apparently wearing the ammo belts across your torso like that is just begging for a misfire or jammed up rounds when you try to feed it through the machine gun.
I never liked the redesign of Rock N Roll, because the ammo pouches across his chest always made him look like he was wearing a square bra.

He also had those ridiculous one hand gattling guns no one could pick up. Didn't know that about the ammo belts. Interesting

Only Joe I have in the package is the large version of the original Stalker because the packaging is part of the appeal. Everything else open and posed.

Nothing says O.G. like a broken thumb. I'm assuming you lost his M60 and just subbed in the Star Wars gun but hey he needs a big gun to blast Cobra with. Stalker was my first in a sea of Star Wars but I became obsessed with these new army guys. A Team and stuff like that was coming along. So here was this inexpensive group of toys and I was mowing lawns and you name it to make a buck. Ain't going to lie I got into a bit of my youthful klepto mode for some at the time. Glad I grew out of that. I still though remember seeing Stalker and the submachine gun and the green beret and just thinking he was so cool looking. I was a comics follower (all kneel before issue 21) so my Joes followed that Larry Hama real feel, I loved the cartoon but it was just more of a back up visual to the real story which was the comic. Collecting glass bottles to balance weirdly on my bike to turn in at the grocery store, then go next door to get my GI Joe and whatever else I could afford. Sgt Rock, Savage Sword of Conan maybe but GI JOE came first, that and my chico stick. Thanx for the content brother..

Yeah, my originals are pretty well-used. I think I lost his gun in 1988. Agreed, it's always been the comic book for me. I prefer the more realistic version to the sci-fi heavy cartoon. The comic book was brilliant.
