Hi, in this video I'm talking about polyphonic aftertouch and MPE and how you can use it with the Behringer UB-Xa. I didn't touch these topics in my walktrough video because I think it deserves its own video. For other functions explained, please check the walktrough here: ua-cam.com/video/DgQslX6uupM/v-deo.htmlsi=yo3zPeQ3nTVfwJm_ 0:00 - Introduction 0:26 - Polyphonic Aftertouch vs. Channel Pressure 2:20 - UB-Xa Key Bed 3:00 - Aftertouch Setup 6:28 - What is MPE 7:46 - MPE Setup 9:00 - MPE & Bitwig 13:25 - MPE Timbre
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I tried (unsuccessfully) to get MPE working last week. It appears I had everything set up correctly in Bitwig, bit i didn't realize i needed to enable it on the UB-Xa.
Super ❤ well done for your assistance to the guy on Facebook with patch saving problems. Many don't bother to help but some of us do. Keep up the good work.
I really MISS all of my old Sequential keyboards! - I still have a sequential Drum Tracks! - These Behringer "tribute" versions look pretty AWESOME, though!!!
Before clicking here, there was only one other context I could think of where portamento glides could be triggered with polyphonic aftertouch. That was in the Apple software Garage Band. During the brief stretch when I had uploaded that particular application to my tablet, I got a kick out of trying to duplicate those slides at the end of the synthesizer section of the Toto song “Rosanna”.
Outstanding. Thank you for your time in detailing this. With every video coming from the testers and early adopters, I'm seeing that is is a very robust and well thought out instrument! Excellent presentation.
❤👍for me the interest with midi is to record the after touch with the play, in a soft or my old Roland MC 500, interesting to listen it is sent on 16 midi tracks. Most people ignore the artistical side of polyphonic aftertouch, wich is expression, and thanks for this video to explore what is possible and what takes ussues. This instrument is very more than how it's generally played.
Hey ! When I’m creating a patch and I want to add poly AT. I press shift and Mod … but it always loads up a new sound ( brass ensemble) patch and it completely disappears the patch I was working on. How can I access poly AT without having this issue ! ? It’s a nightmare there’s 0 documentation about this.
ok thanks a lot ! yeah im sure its user error, i just tried again and it does work. I guess i just hit the 4 button without shift...However I did lose like 15 minutes of work lol Thanks for the info i will disable the preset recall.@@tomnoise23
@@paphundekel1926 This can’t be addressed by software as it needs a specialized Keyboard or button matrix and sensors. A classic synthesizer keybed is not sufficient.
Hi, the Behringer info says that you can export and import patches at least at the bank level, but this is no where in the manuals. How do you trigger a sysex bank save from the UB-Xa? And can you load a bank back to any bank, or only the one it was exported from? I assume that to load, you just send the sysex to the UB-Xa. Thanks! I've been looking for this everywhere. (Still waiting on my preordered unit to arrive.)
SysEx dump is somewhere in the Globals menu. It’s also described in the user manual (I think not in the quick start guide). You can transfer single banks, presets and settings. To load it back you just need to send it to the UB-Xa but I didn’t try every combination. peace and happy holidays 🎄
Having no luck finding velocity tutorial anywhere. Its not on the manual at all. 0-124 sounds the same. There is a few presets that use it, besides building off those I can't get basic velocity to function
Have you tried to see if poly and/or channel aftertouch are being transmitted over the MIDI DIN out? On my unit and also reported by others on GS it seems that there is a bug that aftertouch is not being transmitted over DIN MIDI out. Everything else is transmitted fine over DIN MIDI out. I can see in your video that you are not using the DIN MIDI out so can you please check. Thank you.
You are right. It only transmits if the Aftertouch Out parameter is set to poly aftertouch. I can confirm ... Let's report it to Behringer so they can fix it in a future update.
@tomnoise23 Thankyou Tom for confirming this. Yes I will also report this to Behringer and hopefully others will also confirm and also report. Strange that something so basic and important slipped by all the testers. I guess that they were more interested in getting the poly aftertouch working correctly and they missed making sure that the good old channel pressure aftertouch was also working properly! Thanks again!!

Thank you for explaining polyphonic aftertouch so coherently.
Thanks for the nice feedback!

Thanks for your comment. It's much appreciated
@@tomnoise23 and yourself, have a good one 😎enjoy your Synth, I'll get mine in a couple of months but looking forward to it.
Another reason to get the UB-Xa. Thanks for the informative video fellow Bitwig user. 🤘
you should! ive been having nothing but great fun with mine these past days

Sequential is still around. You can even buy a brand new Prophet-5/10.
Well done. Thank you Mr Noise.

🙏😉👌Now it"s time to use the polyphonic aftertouch With the B pro-800!❤
Oh yes that would be great 👍 But I don’t have a Pro-800 anymore.

Hm 😳 sounds like that shift mode is not recognized on your unit when pressing shift? Does it work for the other functions, like Globals menu etc.?
Oh and you can disable the preset recall for the buttons 1-4 if you don’t need it. It is in the globals menu under misc settings/disable/assign preset

So cool. Is there any editor for UBXA yet? VST/AU or standalone
Great presentation, but is it possible to control MPE software VST (like Pigments or others) with UB-Xa, by using it as MIDI controller?
It doesn’t send (only receives) MPE data but it sends polyphonic aftertouch to midi.
@@tomnoise23 Thanks for your quick response. I hope, they will do some firmware update later for MPE sending over MIDI - that would be great

Is the Aftertouch Flt control global or per program saved?
As @@dankeplace said, it is a global setting. Imo otherwise it would be difficult to control external equipment too.

Thank you! Found it. I had been looking all through the midi menus. Where it usually lives in most synths.@@tomnoise23
I will have to make a simple patch bank library app for it.
@@greenbriarstudio5399 that would be handy! ❤️
