- Continuing with my journey of sharing meals with the children in my village. Today, I made the traditional cakes at our place. It's called banh giay. Made from sticky rice grains, delicious and sticky. And yet, to add a special touch, I colored the cake with natural ingredients. The nice thing about the pureed turmeric is that, once you've squeezed out as much water & color as you can, you can spread out the paste and let it dry, then break it up into a powder and store it. Add a little black pepper, and it'll become a powerful anti-inflammatory medicine as well as a brightly colored and deliciously flavored spice!

You could build a big table for your kitchen...We call it a kitchen island....It would facilitate your work, prevent the disconfort of squatting for hours and keep the food trays off the floor which is healthier...Thank you for your kindness.....

Actually, squatting is a discomfort for Westerners: we/they are neither used to it nor limber enough. The germs & bacteria collected by food trays on the floor are much the same as those present on Western kitchen counters. "Cleaning" a counter generally only spreads the germs & bacteria around and does NOT kill the harmful types. Besides, ingesting more of the ever-present germs & bacteria aids one's immune system in REMAINING effective. Westerners get sick more-often because their immune system has become less effective precisely due to their too-clean surroundings. Too-clean to sufficiently exercise the immune system.

The Asian markets here in Houston generally sell things from all over. When looking at cakes I have to pay attention to see whether it is green because it has matcha in it or it's green because it has pandan leaf in it. The two are very different!
Also, as a total side-note, can you grow peanuts on your hillside? I know they are good protein and help replenish the soil. I was wondering if you could manage one harvest of upland rice and one harvest of peanuts in a year

For this type of cake, I use glutinous rice
Can some of these recipes be prepared and cooked one day and then be reheated or steamed to be serve the next day to the children?
As it was after dark when the children were eating these sticky rice cakes, do they live at the school?
Was the rice you used some of the crop of upland rice you raised? Other than storing the bundles of rice in the warehouse, you have never showed us how to process that rice and use it.
I do not use my upland rice for this type of cake. Thanks for your respond

A major problem with both solar electricity and electricity by wind-power: the maintenance of the batteries plus the extra hardware involved is still far too expensive and too cumbersome in the Eastern countries. Even gas is way too much work, mainly in transportation, to be useful when compared to wood. I mean butane/propane gas, not gasoline.
Why would Huong make a sink, when water is so near at-hand at the water-tank? Besides, how would you run the water-pipes to ensure that they would not be in the way? HER setup makes the best use of HER existing situation, just as a sink in the kitchen makes best use of the situation typical in the WESTERN world. This is called "adjusting to one's environment & culture".
It would make more sense there to wait for the new energy machines coming out. Tesla or etheric energy. We all know it's coming and lithium mining for the batteries is also no good.
If you keep dropping food in your floor, isn't the food gonna start smelling like spoiled food...

Where you get all the money for power tools and food (pork whole legs and ducks) to cook for charity. Before you sold farm produce to earn a little money, now you divert all you time and energy in doing this and doing that in your farm. Why is your husband not helping you, he does seem to be fully occupied in his own farm doing little things.
Even though it is merely a UA-cam show, it has to be logical.
