The Murder Ballad is a very old folk tradition and y'all just breathe new life into the tradition, so to speak.
Watching Johnny play was like seeing a bull hoof the dirt. Is this guy John and June's grandson? Does he sing or just whisper? Justin is, as always, Outstanding. The Carter-Cash train could use him to stoke that old coal engine o' theirs... Thank You fellas 💜.

Yeah, I'll accept that, but in the context of a song, the antagonist should have been given at least some motivation for the deed. Maybe he thought "his lady love had been untrue" or something like that.
Otherwise, this just becomes a song that tries to "explain the inexplicable," and fails miserably.
