This video was certainly an educational experience. I didn't realize there was such a deep culture behind metal rock music. I've always enjoyed it, sure, but that enjoyment has really been casual more than anything; the majority of albums have remained obscure for me. It's good to know that someone who IS cognizant of that deeper culture can attest that "Brütal Legend" is authentic, though. Gives me more of an incentive to check it out, and maybe even be open for it acting as a sort of gateway into the sub-culture. Reminds me of how "Jet Set Radio," a game that I originally thought might have just been carelessly appropriating Tokyo's street culture, is actually considered a very authentic and cool form of representation by the people who actively engage with that stuff. While I don't plan on personally engaging with or contributing to Japanese street culture, that game's exaggerated take still opened my eyes my eyes to how cool it is in a lot of ways.
You just don't really expect either game to be able to exist because corporations have a knack of stripping the authenticity out of a lot of what they touch. While I am pretty certain the execs at EA and SEGA don't really care about any of this stuff, I am at least glad that they were wise enough not to interfere with the developers who actually DID give a toss.

Very well said. Ultimately, I think Metal is a genre that kind of HAS to have a deep, rich subculture attached to it in order to survive. Similar to Rap/Hip-Hop, it's a form of music that has historically been used as a way to find 'adoptive family', community, and camaraderie for people who were otherwise outcast from more mainstream groups. So while that doesn't by any means make it BETTER music, nor does it mean the culture surrounding the music is inherently better, it can often lead to a community that much more staunchly cares about its own, and REALLY emphasizes a rebellious and boundary pushing nature that likely wouldn't have been accepted in other music cultures.
And so even though a game like Brutal Legend - being a game made by DoubleFine - is going to be extremely goofy and over the top at times, it carries that beating heart. Because yeah, thankfully the suits didn't get to it. They trusted that the metalheads and game designers knew best for once.
