The Secret of Sacred Dreams from the Dead

  • Ancient Irish, Welsh and Scottish Celts, Vikings, Greeks, Vedic Hindus and Anglo-Saxons all had secret techniques to get clairvoyant dreams (See the Future) with psychic visions from communicating with the spirits of the dead or with the gods. Very often the skills for receiving such prophetic dream visions were associated with an elite spiritual caste who were also the poets called bards, skalds, scops etc Such dreams could give them poetic inspiration from the spirits of dead poets. The ancient secrets of Celts and Vikings were also related to shamanic practices in which shamans deliberately evoke visions through various techniques such as sleeping on the skin of an animal.
The video specifically looks at an Irish rite known as Imbas forosnai performed by elite seer poets known as Filíd, also the tairbfheis, a rite to determine the High king at the Hill of Tara. In Wales there were the awenyddion and in Scotland they had a pagan rite of prophecy called Taghairm. I also look at several Anglo-Saxon and Norse Icelandic saga sources discussing Ulfhednar, Hammramr, Elves, haunted barrows and seers and compare them with the dreams described by Homer and Pausanias in Ancient Greece.

One of the first questions to jab a materialist with is "so you've never dreamt of the future?"... be sure to say it like they're essentially retarded if they answer in the negative. I'd say at least half the people within earshot will have had some kind of dream-bound premonition or at least know someone they trust who has.

I had a dream 20 years ago that was so real, I didn't know it was a dream until it came to pass. In the dream, my brother drank poppy seed tea that his friend had made and no one could wake him up. I thought this had really happened, I thought my brother finally woke up and life went on. Then 20 years later I got a call that my brother had died, and I immediately knew how and who he was with. He had drank poppy seed tea made by his same friend from the dream 20 years prior. And you kinda look like my brother, coincidentally.

She was so upset she could hardly speak, and I proceeded to tell her who he was with and exactly what happened, which was confirmed several weeks later in the results of his toxicology report.

@Godot it was the night before his funeral, I was scanning in some recent photos of him and saving them to a memory card to print for the service. I was tired, it was after midnight, and my scanner is up on a shelf behind the tv next to the computer, the chair is across the room and I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. It's an awkward set up but I don't use it much. So I was standing there scanning in photos and saving them to a folder on the desktop so I could find them; I'd put a picture on and hit the scan button, and it just saves as a system generated name. When I was done scanning I sat down to edit the photos and drag them onto the memory stick. They were all the system generated name that starts with D except for one at the bottom of the folder that was named "seen mom", I hadn't even touched the keyboard so I know it couldn't have been me. He used to call me all the time and the first thing he'd ask is if I'd seen mom. And that's the only definite communication I've had from him that was certainly him, other than the time I was looking for my phone I'd left by a window and a dragonfly started hitting the window multiple times so I'd look over and see it.

The story of the Icelandic poet sleeping on the barrow of a great poet to aquire his poetry has an exact parallel in Finnish folklore recorded in the 1800s. In the Kalevala it appears as Vainamoinen going to the mound of the giant runesinger(poet) and prying his mouth open to retrieve the charms he can use. He needs these charms for a task which I think was building a longship out of a broken loom.

I've had such dreams since I was a child. I've had several under the influence of mushrooms, which incidentally makes me yawn. My dreams are always connected to geographical places. These dreams always feel different and will repeat themselves until they take place in reality. They come in the state between sleep and wake. When I arrive at the place from my dreams I recognize them instantly like deja vue.

Brilliant insights! - It is said that by the sixth century AD, the ‘Tain Bo Cualinge’ was fragmented and disappearing from popular knowledge, until Muirgen, son of Senchan, fasted and slept on the grave of Fergus MacRoich. When invoked, the spirit of the ancient Irish hero came forward out of a mist, in a dream-vision, to recite the entire ‘Tain’. Anyway, that’s how Thomas Kinsella begins his modern translation of the text.

This also brings to mind the Oulis healer cult of Apollo, related to that of Asclepius, and the poem of Parmeneides, which are described in Peter Kingsley’s “In the Dark Places of Wisdom”. Members of this cult practiced incubation in caved and temples like animals in a lair, accompanied with unnerving sounds of hissing snakes and the idea of the sun being at home in the Underworld. With Plato, the sole focus was laid on the light, and the wisdom, healing and inspiration in the darkness forgotten. Also, David Lynch is proud of you.

It felt unnerving and I got scared but then I heard my ancestors call out to me telling me to unlock my power and I forced myself to teleport back into my room and wake up... I felt a brush of Power!

For example, maybe you'll see owls frequently. What are they doing? And, what changed or shifted in the person's life or personality shortly after that? Stay relaxed and let your Inner Self talk to the "regular" you. Lightning burning the words of the message onto our living room walls would be nice, but it's never quite that clear.

This was in my feed today...? So I subbed. Your video reminds me of a dream I had in 1996 about an old women and an Úlfhédnar behind her. In the dream I had to make a choice choose to face the wolf or run.
I stood my ground and in the dream I looked into a mirror and saw the wolf looking back. Later I recanted the dream to my mother describing in detail the old women. Then my mother showed me a photo of my great grandmother.... It was an exact match. Apparently my ggrandmother was a spirit medium. I didn't know any of this prior to the dream. My great grandmother was from England with Scottish ancestry. I've always had the ability of second sight since I was child. Now I understand the meaning behind the dream. 4 years later I was able to finally meet my biological father for the first time.

Very interesting topic! I have long thought about the background to practices like e.g. seiðr since I can't believe that "shamanism transmitted from the Samis" is the ONLY source. My main argument against the Samis as the only root to seiðr, lies in the fact that we (as you show in this video) find similar customs also within various other Indo-European traditions. I do not dismiss the possibility that the Sami peoples could have affected the Norse customs, but it's probably not the only source of the practice.

We gotta remember also how closely linked swedes and finns have always been, regardless the language barrier. Half of sweden was filled with "forest-Finns" before the state turned all racial hygenics on them in the 1900s. Forest-Finns are NOT the same as sami, they are genetically swedish/finnish, and very shamanical in lifestyle since they still lived kind of nomadic, or atleast not in the organized farm style. Saunas and being forest dwellers and all makes me absolutly sure that they were shamanic. No one still lives as a forest-Finn (officially), but the finish speaking parts of sweden and swedish speaking parts of finland were once their home, + more. The people I know from here who look like forest-Finns all have a shamanic "vibe", just a deep soul and a bit more "asian" eyes (common in sweden/finland)., I think you can tell when someones ancestors been farmers for thousand of years, or when they lived in the forest till recently. Wilderness lingers. I like forest people. I can almost tell by the face of a nordic person, if their ancestors have had a aryan kinda life style or a more forest shamanic one (still aryan obviously, but more oldschool and mystical). Bless.

It might be a bit of a stretch but this video topic made me think of the famous ancient egyptian 'Dream Stele' in which Thutmose IV had a prophetic dream whilst sleeping beneath the sphinx. Since the Sphinx is located in the Giza necropolis his dream could be linked to the ancient indo-europeans sleeping upon barrows. Perhaps this custom was introduced to the Egyptians by the Hyksos who are suspected to have had indo-european heritage. Either way an interested link between prophetic dreams and sleeping in burial sites.

Had this pop up in my feed after having a dream last night that I think was probably related to watching your channel a lot recently. I was hanging in a tangle of thorny vines, and two ravens were hopping around on me and the vines, and the ravens kept tearing at my flesh, but only on the fleshy piece of skin between the thumb and forefinger, the muscle that tightens when you do a finger gun. They kept tearing that out and it kept regenerating, and I was saying to them "Ok, Ok, stop now, I get it, I'm awake" but they kept tearing out that same hunk of flesh, one on each hand. Unusually for a dream, I felt the pain, and eventually the pain was so intense I woke up sweating.

I had a dream when I was about 23 that I had some related experiences about afterwards. I lived in Louisiana which is subtropical, but I had a dream which took place in a deciduous swamp. In my dream I was naked, and was carrying a knobstick made of hazel and a fiber and leather sling around my wrist. As I was walking through the swamp I was confronted by a large black viper, and without thinking I struck it with my stick. It then turned into a heron and flew off. I slung a stone at it and it tranformed into a golden shining women wearing a sari like garment. I caught one glance at her before I was forced to avert my eyes, due to her brightness. She proceeded to scold me in a language I couldn't understand(I had no internal dialogue in the dream. I was all reaction). I woke up soon after, completely mindblown. When I was 27 I went to a book store, and was perusing the 'mythology' section, and found a book titled the 'hero and the goddess'(I read a few chapters, but found it hokey, I should attempt to read it again). I didn't really examine the cover which had two classical greek statues on it, and put it in my cart(it was only 3 dollars). When I got home I studied the cover more thoroughly, and noticed that the image was a semi-nude Odysseus with a knobstick, and Athena with a serpent at the end of her spear. Even though I was fully nude and the being in my dream didn't have a spear or a helmet, the similarities were striking to me. It gets even crazier. Two or three months later I was in a thrift store looking for a VHS player, and figured I'd look at glassware and stuff to see if I could find a new libation vessel. I saw a small copper container shaped like an amphora with an image of a seated woman playing a lyre, it was also only 3 dollars, so I didn't even look it over further and put it in my cart. When I got home I opened a cold brew and was showing my girlfriend's mom what I got. I picked up the container and when I looked at it, it was the picture on the opposite side of the lyre player, showing a completely naked man with a small tree branch in his hand(though not a knobstick) being confronted by Athena. It completely blew my mind. I couldn't stop thinking about it after that. It was by far the one of the most profound dreams I've ever had, and the only dream Ive ever had to have so many related waking experiences. I would love to know what people think about it.

A very deep dream, as in about fundamentals, from the core. A deciduous swamp: a changing situation, a time of change. I see this as indicating a birth of a new part of yourself, a new stage in your growth: naked, baby you, in the womb-like swamp, carrying both male (knobstick) and female (sling) energies and abilities, also tools for the near-at-hand (knobstick) and the distant (sling). You're well prepared, well able to take care of yourself, although you weren't confident of that.
"Confronted by a large black viper" -- please go back and meditate on this confrontation, let the viper communicate its message, do what it wants to do. It could represent either life energy, like kundalini, or the power and energy to transmute recent experiences, probably of the difficult sort. Transmuting is different from transforming. To transform means simply to change the form: a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, but is the same being all the while. To transmute means to change the nature, the essence, of something, as not only neutralizing a poison, but converting it into life-giving food. It's an enormous ability, a power among powers.
I believe it all means that you were at a crossroads, a time of decision-making. There was an opportunity or path, but it was not conventional, odd somehow, and your "rational" mind and/or fear was talking you out of taking it. The dream was telling you that you had what was necessary to make a success of it, and that you weren't/aren't meant for a traditional or conventional (period of) life. The flying heron indicates success in living your own kind of life, even if it doesn't look like what most people would call success. Herons have to be really decisive when they're trying to catch a fish. They must strike without hesitation, put themselves 100% into hitting THERE, that spot. They can strike again and again, but always at full tilt. They never just lower their bills into the water and swish gently around hoping to bump into a fish.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom, a balanced, rounded, true wisdom that incorporates both intellect and intuition. Just go meditate with these images. Respectfully ask Athena to clarify it for you. Listen to your internal voice, because you know this already, you just need to let it bubble up to the surface. If you draw, let yourself doodle while thinking of the dream. Play with play-doh or legos. Go visit herons at a zoo or nature preserve. Spend time _in any way that seems fitting to you_ with these images and forms and energies, and trust the results. As long as you're open to it, you're doing the right thing. It's OK to not understand perfectly and to have to tweak again and again. It's Life, living, in progress, not some final exam. Maybe it's a message you're reluctant to hear, to know. OK. Just get the message clearly first. You can argue over it later, accept it, reject it, modify it, once you know what it is.
In simple goodwill, with best wishes.

I dreamt last night I was in a very old house I didn't recognize, which is a common theme in my dreams. I was in this house with my mother. There appeared a large wolf in the room with us. The wolf was missing one or more of its teeth and it was bleeding profusely from its mouth. It approached me but it didn't seem to want to do me any harm. I remember being rather frightened, however as it was slowly getting closer to me. I've had prophetic dreams in the past. This dream seemed to be trying to tell me something, but I can't quite figure out what that is. The whole dream had a very ominous feeling to it. Like some sort of impending dread. I was actually raised with Hindu beliefs but never really thought of myself as a pagan before, but you are right, the way we make offerings is so close to the pagan ways.
Just a note relating to this video, in the vedic tradition a yogi or rishi would take an animal skin, usually deer, with them into the forest to sit on during their meditation. It is said that a snake will not come onto the animal skin. So there is a very practical reason for the animal skin due to the risk of snakes to a person in a deep meditative state.
When they travel around the rishi would wear the hyde as it was practically their only possession.

Since I was a child, I have had crazy dreams and OBE's, one time I when I was 11 or 12 I dreamt of a faceless black cloaked hooded man, with skeletal hands riding a cart pulled by two black horses. In modern suburbia he went up to a man's door and knocked, the man looked through the window and was terrified and refused to open the door, so the creature broke the window and grabbed the back of his neck in one swift movement, and ripped out his spine. Then the dream took me to a different place and I watched the creature wave his hand over children, old people, plants, animals and people in their prime and they all died. I felt it say, I am death. Then I woke up absolutely terrified and crying.
Ten years later I was reading up on Irish mythology and it turns out the dullahan somewhat fits the description of that terrifying dream especially the spine thing. I was in Australia when I had that dream, but I am related to some Irish families, but not that closely.

When it's a stranger on the street, it doesn't matter as much as when it's personal.Even my own mother who I begged not to go out that night, my siblings even took my side and told her not to go, but she didn't listen and was wheelchair bound for two years due to her injury.
I got spooked by these dreams that were so unrelenting. My older brother explained to me that what I had was a gift, and that I could give it back. And so that night I did. And I've not had a dream of the future since.

I lucid dream often. The one's that get really strange is waking up in a different dream while still dreaming in another dream a few different times in the same dream, and then waking up and being awake kind of confused. I also had many many dreams that I'm going to interpret as either past life's or lives of my past ansters that go back so far in time some seem prediluvian. It's really amazing sometimes especially when I dream things that happen from time to time or about what people i haven seen for a long time or have a strong connection to are doing and how they are. I have experanced having the same dream as other people too especially family members. If genetic plays a part, I am scot-irish, Sicilian but I think my family immigrated to Sicily from some where east of the Mediterranean 150 years ago, and native American , my blood type is ab- and I have a red mustache, black beard, green and orange central heterochromia eyes, light brown hair and a fair completion in the winter and bronze in the summer wish no sun burning. And I'd never ever consider my self a psychic. I'm just a student of the cosmos trying to reach full enlightenment. Stay well my friends and good dreams!

he other night I had a dream about being caught in a building that was falling into a sinkhole, and I could still hear the music as I was pulled down by the force of the current and about to be drowned/crushed. I think I dreamt this because I am going through an unwelcomed change in my life, and I have always struggled with changes due to ASD. I just have to keep going forward and bare it.

I recently had a dream that a female companion and I were chased across the stars by a hunter of an alien humanoid race. We were captured and placed into a zoo on another planet where we were observed by other people of the humanoid aliens and eventually more humans were brought there to be observed along with us. Definitely one of the most bizarre dreams I've ever had and it certainly felt the most real. Not sure what that could mean but I think it's interesting.

    Interesting!
The intro made me think you went through an ayahuasca trip though 😂
I've experienced precognition in dreams (and while awake too), but without trying to. Recently I learnt that my aunt has some psychic abilities, so it may run in families indeed.
IMO any ritual to induce psychic dreams is simply a placebo to put you in the right psychological "mode". However it could make sense that synthetic fibers would hamper "energies" someone's trying to connect to 🤔

I too had the thought in regards to synthetic fibers. I'm glad that you posted your thought. It validates my thinking.
