I discovered "incubation" ritual thanks to Peter Kingsley books. It's fascinating.
Same. About 5 years ago. I have spoken to Dr. Peter. His scholarship should be so much more well known than it is.
Me too!
I just wanted to thank you for this comment! I'm researching dream incubation for a paper and had never heard of Peter Kingsley before reading your comment. I started reading In the Dark Places of Wisdom and I CANNOT put it down. It's incredible. It's changed the whole course of my paper for the better, so thank you!
Wow! Never heard of this before. So interesting. Will definitely dig into that. Much appreciated.
thank you for this video, im interested to learn more about this healing method- specific diet, specific purifications.
I'm visiting Turkey soon and would love to know if there are any famous sites there!
Pergamon would be our top choice!
Probably should have started off by saying it's Greek not Roman
Hi there! Your claim is wrong. It's not a Greek invention as highlighted in the video. Like most aspects of Greek culture there is a strong influence and heritage coming from the Near East. Nobody said its Roman, just a quick intro on the etymology of the word "incubation".
@@CAMNES everything I've heard about it points to the temple of Asclepius at Epidaurus. But mayhaps u can show me where in Sumar this was mentioned. Didn't Pothagarus bring it to Italy?
@@marasmiusgoldcrow6746 Greeks broadly used it, and as usual we have more resources talking about it and temples with specific ex-voto. This practice/ritual as many adopted by the Greeks and Romans originated in the Near East. We have a famous example coming from the Neo-Sumerian Gudea of Lagash of the 22nd cent. BCE, where he undergoes an incubation ritual with the god Ningirsu, www.eisenbrauns.org/sample_chapter/Rey_Chapter1.pdf But this is just one example. The practice is probably as old as the first temples.
