For newer guys- this is way kinder on the undercarriage than sharp turns without it as a technique. It’s really how you should be doing it always on the bigger machines

I will be a new excavator operator when we take delivery of a Kubota KX033-4 in about ten days. I have never operated an excavator before (I operated a vintage 610 Bobcat skit steer for about 7 years), so I have been binge-watching excavator how-to videos the last several days. I just want to confirm what I have been seeing, and it seems like an easy way to remember how to do a jump turn: move the swing joystick to the side of the tread lever that is going forward. Do I have that right? Thank you!

Unless you are running brand new shit you have to be careful & not get your rails off your bottom rollers & throw a track. Easy to do if you don't hear that pop before it jumps off.
Since Im trying to get into the machine operator field, I’ve always wondered, do you need a certain license to operate an excavator, or skid loader, etc.?

I’m not an experienced equipment operator by any stretch of the imagination…ran some stuff at a friends farm sometimes helping out, just little stuff like that…but my folks had a spot in their yard that liked to flood when it rained…so they rented a miniex and asked me to dig a trench to lay some corrugated tube as a drainage. Well, my mom is very wary of excavators (she had an uncle who rolled one over and died.) and she’s out there watching me work, and I’m doing my jump turns, and she’s freaking out every time (guess me picking the front of the machine up and swinging the carriage around was just too much for her), and finally I’m like ‘would you rather I just do this?’ Bucket in the air, just right toe forward, left heel down, just ripped the hell out of the yard with the tracks. (She’s quite picky about the yard, likes her grass pretty.) She then decided she was ok with my jump turns 😂

Except for emergency exits
Except steering with your hands sucks much easier to use foot pedals
@@dentonramsey30I think they would rather steer something then nothing at all they are saying.
You really commented this on a movement that requires feet and hand usage at one time 😂

Just curious why is this a better way to do it rather than just turning your excavator without having to do all that?

Both

it’s called dry walking

I feel like Australia always has a great nickname for everything
Don't forget you have to pull the stick in a little as you swing
Sounds like a sober Ricky tpb
Lots of wiggle in that turn. Time for some bushings
I learnt it by accident when I was young and I remember thinking to myself that how you do that
it stress off of final drives cause excavators are so heavy
Teach how to climb a incline
Yes doing this kills valuable time
