Awesome! I am currently a chef of 15 years but want to change my career and go into heavy machines. This video taught me so much and excited me.
any luck?
pretty sure ur one of those 9/10 contractors who takes years to finish couple of months work, or messing up and blowing budgets right and left. survived from over billing naive suckers.. LMAO ur comment is fkn hilarious 😷😷👩👩👧👩👩👧🌈🌈🤡🤡
Combine the two careers. Cook with heavy machinery.
For some reason I see you lifting a giant oyster with a crane 😃
I have learnt something I didn't know , great job man thanks
Hes a good instructor. No fillers (“Um’s...Aahh’s....etc) material is straight to the point, presented in a very straightfoward and easy way to follow along for students new to the field. Thanks guys!
Thanks for the feedback and comment!
He failed though. He does not have a hard hat on. I dont even know if he wears the proper boots for the job. (Safety first)
Don’t need a hard hat in the machine .
True
@@zebulundocallas Only retards wear hard hats inside the machine , its acts as a warning to others
I’m 11 years old, I think I am pretty good at using an excavator, this video is very good for the youngsters like me, thank you guys for this.
Awesome bud...keep it up!
wtf little man? I didnt know how to ride a bicycle at your age. Anyways try to respect the machine though

Where do you work?
One of brand new workers never used an excavator before turned up to work the other day and i was showing him a couple things and he had a pretty good grasp on everything already which I thought was weird seeing he's a newby. He said he watched your videos which obviously helped him a lot. So thank you, mate
That’s so awesome to hear! That you for sharing that!
Everything you just showed me is what I call "getting a feel of of how the machine works" practice makes perfect is the golden rule for every machine
Totally agree...thanks for the comment!
I just love how you explain everything and let people know it takes time to learn these movements

Hello there handsome how are you doing today
Man, I'll always be grateful that my father realized that at a young age, I had a passion for heavy equipment. I'm 13 now and have operated a skid steer on many occasions, a mini excavator, semi trucks, etc. Love my dad♥️
Check out construction KNAWledge bud
I have some advice for you! Learn everything you can about the equipment. Get good at operating it and have fun, there will however come a time when you will grow out of it. That’s when you can move on! Buy some equipment and pay someone else to operate it. Then buy another and another. You will be a good boss because you will understand exactly how your employees will feel.
You will never grow out of it!
Wanted to thank you. Recently started within our companie's RGN fleet after 6 years flatbed. Having no heavy equipment experience, it's been somewhat stressful. Had to unload myself today. Watched your video last night and walked off a Cat 326FL today without a hitch. Was a little nervous, but once off the trailer, I turned it from turtle to almost rabbit. It was a blast. Can't thank you enough for keeping me safe and successful.
We love hearing stories like this, glad to hear our videos helped. Thanks for the comment!
I am a machine operator with seven years of experience and everything this man said was straight forward and accurate. Great job i have always heard it called east and west control patterns 7 years and i just heard the iso controls and realized that i have seen that written on instruction manuals lol great job very thorough explaining keep up the good work Damian from Tennessee
Thanks Damian! Appreciate the comment!
Thanks for making this video to enhance people ability, for operating Excavator machine.
Was looking to pick up a new bulldozer, wife wasn't familiar with operating one, so I go searching for a video to show her 'controls 101' on a dozer...and found this channel...GREAT WORK, saved me a week of stress letting her actually pay attention (to where she would have ignored half-of-what I said to her)...ended up finding a few other channel vids (like this excavator one) to familiarize her with some other equipment too (she's a skid steer expert...but not so much on excavator work...like with the backhoe on our Case 580 Super N...keep up the good work!
Awesome to hear...thanks for the comment!
When I was learning , my foreman took the handles off of the track controls which forced me to learn to track with my feet . That really helps with being able to track and swing and do other things at the same time. Besides those handles are just in the way in front of you! I been operating for 25 years now and love doing it. Such a fun job!
For someone who has never ever set foot in an excavator, my initial impression is that using feet to track would be more intuitive and less awkward anyway. Then again, I have not sat in the seat myself, so I still effectively know nothing!
Hello Randy, as someone who has never sit in a excavator! I would like to thank you for that professional demonstration. I feel comfortable enough now to give it a try. Once again very professional presentation, all major companies should make a video like yours
Thank you very much...appreciate that!
I never operated an excavator before but very interested in learning. I am a plumber and I’m always on job site that I’ve sold to dig up sewers, water lines and storm sewers. When ever I get free time in my work schedule I like to go to the job site and watch the operator.
Great video ! Keep it up
IAM an operator 3 years of experience in a excavation your videos are so good they guided me until I came an expert
Randy, you have to have the coolest job in the world! I am a military retiree and will be starting my first job operating heavy equipment tomorrow. I will be operating a John Deere 260E ADT and I can not wait! I am hoping to someday learn other heavy equipment as well. Thank you for your videos and for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you for the comment! And thank you for your service! Love running off-road dumps, have had the chance to work some Komatsu HM-400s and it was a blast. Good luck with the new job!
Hey there, my first ADT was a Bell 250, which I believe is owned by John deer and is basically the same. I’ve moved on to other plant since then but those trucks are very safe with anti tip-over alarms and they are good for getting a feel for your safe working angles. That truck got me out of a few tight spots one where I had to power through axle deep mud to get off a collapsing edge of a silt collection pond and with pedal to the metal she managed to get me through. I hope your truck is as for you as mine was for me, best of luck and welcome to the industry 👍
@@HeavyMetalLearning Just one criticism (constructive), and it's really a safety issue. When digging into virgin ground, or any ground for that matter, you should always try and be fully informed on what is, or might be in the ground you're about to dig.
The correct procedure for digging a trench is to fully extend boom (bucket) like in this video, but only peel off about 4-6 inches the full length, from full extension to the tracks, this way, you'll fill your bucket, and you will have a better chance of seeing any cables or pipes that might be in the ground before you hit them. Hope this helps. 😃

I got my operating license for excavator, just by watching this videos I myself was a tlb and skeed steer operator thanks for the great work. I'm from Namibia South of Africa
Wow! What a good introductory video. Clear and to the point without taking ten minutes to tell me what you're going to show me. Well done sir. I think I would like to learn to operate heavy machinery like this, grader, bulldozer before I am done.
What a wonderful skill to have though it's not going to come up much in anything other than a life of construction, the operator is god of pools and homesteaders outside of a working life.
Thanks for the lesson, and though there is much much more to learn, you make it easy to get interested and show how it's not rocket engineering, just simple understanding and a little finesse.
Thanks for the comment! Always good to learn new skills, but just like anything it takes practice practice practice to get good.
I just turned 18 and got a job digging out new construction plumbing grounds for houses and i have to use a e55 bobcat, this video helped alot thank you

hi i just got my osha 30 can you help .i also want to become an enginer operator
do you like it?
I've viewed many hours of mining videos, and even having operated farm equip, fork lifts and driven truck OTR, never understood the operation of hyd excavators .... I've never even operated backhoe .... So, watching this makes me understand MUCH better, what functions the operator performs. Thank you for this impressive video. @SShaw6174 the certification you need for most companies. You can't just say "i wanna operate this" and become an operator... people would die.
Seb Lemery, Is there a big pay difference between dump truck and heavy equipment operator?? I'm just curious.
Have 4 working behind my house. Love watching the operators. They are surgeons with them!
Yeah...it’s pretty cool to watch them work!
Veterans also take their feet off the pedals when digging. Especially in tight quarters or when digging around pipe. Great video! Definitely good for someone to watch before they get in the excavator for the first time!
Excellent tip! Thanks for sharing!
You explained better than my instructor,he used to cut corners and leave you to figure it out your self.Great lesson

folan11 well my
Buddy let me operate his for the very first time with no instructions. I pushed the boom* lever too fast and almost tipped there was no windshield either so I could have fell out
It’s so if you flip the machine you don’t get a concussion rattling around in that cab
@Jimmy De'Souza It's not so much about keeping you inside as it is about keeping you from hitting parts of your body (i.e. your noggin) on various thing in the cab in the event of an accident or rollover.
Your a very good instructor I just finished my course for excavator, grader, dozer, articulated truck and from watching this video you gave some good pointers that I'm definitely gonna remember and use thank you for the great informative video.
Awesome to hear...thanks for the comment!

You’re welcome...thanks for the comment!
😳 The most coolest thing about excavators is that they are literally manned robots, it’s extension of our motor capabilities, Such big machines can be controlled so easily.
Once you're persuaded to pilot a plane while seated behind the cockpit with over 1,000 switches and knobs all around you, you’ll then acknowledge how simple it is to operate such large and weighty machines😂😂
@@danielatikosi631 I’m talking about excavation not plane, btw planes fly on autopilot without any pilots have to switch 1000 knobs.
Not an operator, but enjoyed watching this video. I also, forward this video to someone who will be operating this machine or one like it. You are an excellent teacher. Keep up the good work and encourage more women to get into this field.
Thanks Dion! Appreciate the comment!
When I started years ago a guy told me not to get used to tracking with my hands because I will need them for the joysticks. That’s was good advise. Great video. Many of us here not watching for the training but for the love of the trade.
Agreed. We just like to keep it as simple as possible for new operators but agree that transitioning to driving with your feet is preferred.
Heavy Metal Learning I like to use them when I loaded them on the float. Was a tad more precise.
Thank you so much for the demonstration......

Really appreciate watching this video before I do my training next week - so I at least know a little bit.
This trainer is really good and clear 👍🏼
I work in the port of liverpool and I drive these exact komatsu machines on to ships before they go to Canada/USA.
Awesome seeing them actually working a shift.
Got a question, why are North america so far behind when it comes to rototilts? Makes the excavator so much better in every way, unless you are breaking rock or lifting really heavy stuff.
I think it mainly comes down to cost....it's an expensive accessory to own and maintain. But I do think it is proving it's value so will become more commonplace.
@@HeavyMetalLearning then over here you would never buy a machine that does not have it included. The price aint that heavy. Surely market makes it more expensive in the US, but 1 machine can do what 3 does instead. Just check out Swedigger.
I was trained to ALWAYS have the bucket at an angle so no rain can settle in it. Believe it or not, all buckets can decompose after so much rain in it.
youtube: wanna learn to operate an excavator?
me: sure why not.
It's best to scoop your buckets in layers instead of digging right down into it and curling. That may work in the sandy stuff you got there but not in many other soil types. Good basic controls video.
Good point!
Also better to turn around when need to reverse as u never can be sure when someone steps behind you ,and keep stuff as far from trench as it will be deep. Also agree with u Kyle , its also making more efficient job :)
rudimentary intro to excavators---several thoughts-- if you are travelling where people are in area with boom up then if ground level permits then keep bucket above head height as people are going to wander into area unannounced--- all machinery can operated to some degree by most and mastered by few-- good operators never brag-- they let the quality of their work do the speaking---reputation will proceed you-- never was too keen on someone telling me how good they were--impressed by skill level---consistency and good work practices essential--
I pissed off ground works foreman because I was taking full scoops but without digging right down into clay mud on muck away job close to finish level, his idea was dig right in because clay more compact, would fit more in dumper trucks, my idea was take it easy on first day, do not over dig and grade it off nicely, I was sacked at end of first day, the difference was between 5 ton landscaping diggers and 14 ton muck away diggers, had I of gone nuts and plowed right in I'd probably of hit house foundations, the dumper and over dug the whole place, he'd of not been happy either way, at least I can say that I left it nicely graded and carried out safely, one day soon there will be no blue card drivers left.
Definitely start in layers and if this guy understood the range of Motion in the machine did know where the sweet spot was for operated and that you don't just boom out to the furthest point and start that's not how to find sweet spot
Seems like a rewarding profession! Never forget the kid who excavated the trench in our garage for installation of our storm shelter. Total boss! I thought to myself: “Man, I’d be proud of my son took up the profession.”
I always watch your videos, how to change the bucket of the excavator, I would love to see a video of it, boss.
🇧🇩🇧🇩
This video was awesome! I have never really been drawn to excavators, but I'm really into RC's (radio-controlled vehicles), and a while back, my brother bought me a radio-controlled excavator. Now I can't get enough of them! Love running my RC, but someday I really want to run the actual thing. I noticed that the control knobs on my RC transmitter match exactly the functionality of the real thing. So cool! I really enjoyed the video! I know you made it look easy, but you did a great job in being specific w/o being too technical, and you showed that you really know what you're doing. Thanks for this great video!
that's cool.....got to play somewhere....RC if you have to!
Your ability to explain and teach is absolutely brilliant. A big difference from some of the old Irish guys I listen to, eff this eff that wtf and so on lol

Many thanks for this !
I returned to truck-driving after many years away, on a part-time basis, driving 6-wheeler tippers, and have to load my own truck on occasions when the digger-drivers go home early.
To those who say, they won't have need for videos like this, learn from my experience - neither did I think I would use an educational tool like this ---- after all, I am nearer 75 than 74.............................
That is awesome to hear! We do love technology...such great new tools to learn from. Never stop learning!
I like this guy, always displays a professional manner in his area of work.
i am a operator of Komatsu 130 pc......i love ur video man...
This is pretty basic. Years ago I had one of my guys loading trucks a couple days later I took over for a day. A driver came over said he timed us and I was 30 percent faster. I started analyzing how we Dig and noticed I plan my next bucket location when I leave hole, and I dump with stick and bucket at same time stick is faster then bucket, I usually dig with flat bucket, think about it when you fill a loader bucket you don't go into pile with bucket dumped so why would you do it with hoe bucket, other then first starting or in hard ground. And remember your finals go in rear. On flat tracks they wear 3 times faster if finals are in front. On high track dozers it doesn't matter there like reverse all the time. Nice video for basics. I love teaching new kids I figure it's my only legacy. I started 41 years ago. And own about 12 machines.
Excellent advice! Thanks!
Umm its for beginers dough head!! Im sure the best like everone else thinks they are!!! But im glad you got to say how great you are !!! Ya!! U get a pat on the head!!
@@CertifiedLandscape i gave him a thumbs up .... just for you
I highways for a living. You talked about digging with a flat bucket verses with the teeth down, the real difference is what type of work your trying to do. Pipe crews dig with a flat bucket to lay pipe and grade digs with teeth down to see there grade. Plus if your excavating bulk such as digging a pond it would take you 100x longer
Need you to teach me
Its good to learn from experts though Randy disclaim he is not an expert but to me you a an expert and your videos are helping me out much better with excavators ....thanks a lot.

Good training video! Digging 1 giant scoop at a time makes more off a mess tho. When tracking its a good idea to keep your bucket low to the ground so u can lower the boom and bucket to the ground quickly for stability if needed.
New Zealand Earthmover good advice for small machines up to 10ton as they tip over easy but large machines gain large momentum and it's easy to get complacent and not see someone in all those 180 movements, in my little experience on large machines I'd say high and close, above head height... Depends on the job tho I suppose, every situation different
This basic training chill out
.
Nice video! Easy to understand and follow. Its a good idea to separate the topsoil, clay, gravel into different piles when excavating. Probably not a concern in the sandbox where you are working. But its one thing that is often overlooked by novices in the field. And no digging without utilities marked. Safety first!

On our jobs the operator is the competent person. That means he can identify soil types and soil mechanics. Never let someone enter a trench that’s 4 feet or deeper without proper shoring. Not even for a second!!!!!!!

Randy, you didn't advise operators to always try to dig over your idlers instead of the drive sprockets whenever possible. I know they will dig over either end, but the idler end is stronger and not as susceptible to damage to the drive motors from the shock of digging. But all in all, a great video.

I have to give it to you. you rarely see someone who responds so regularly and consistently. very neat of you, even when it threatens to be offensive, you choose the neat way. my compliments. I'm not going to follow your channel. a little too basic for me or I've already had it once. but I wish you good luck sir!
