i have many ideas and happy to brainstorm them
Imagine looking up at the moon and seeing cities!
Jeez Rick, that would be something.
Woah
Morty Smith, Well, It would be something like this: Nothing much would be different when you looked at a Full Moon, as would be like looking at the Day-Side of Earth from space. Looking at a New Moon, however, would be quite the spectacle, as you would see the light blasted off in space from the lunaian structures in shapes recalling, but a lot more organised than, Earth's cities. And all phases in between would be different proportions of both views.
I’d be kind of sad to see the face of the moon changed like that butnidk.
The moon is the only natural thing you can look at from your city. That would suck to see cities on it tbh
If we did build cities on the moon imagine looking up and seeing a crescent moon with the dark part lit up by the lights from the citites
That'll irritate the flat earthers.
That would be like the first people who first saw electricity lit cities for the first time. God I hope this happens before I die.
Star Trek: First Contact
Its both cool but also depressing... The only natural view we can get is going to be altered.
I love staring at the moon especially with my telescope. As much as I love it, I think it would be much cooler to see tiny lights on it when it is a new moon. Imagine that.
Even when the moon is being fully illuminated, im sure you wouldnt be able to notice the cities.
To think, with the start of the Artemis Program, this is becoming a reality.

Isn’t there a plan to go to the moon for a base now?
@@maguil01 The current Artemis Program has that as one of its end goals.
They just tested the Orion, the capsule that will take thw astronauts to the moon and back, in a successful unmanned trip. In a year and a half, they are sending a manned mission to orbit the moon and work on facilitating the trip, and the mission after that will land on it.
The missions after that third will focus on establishing a permanent base and setting the foundations for the extraction of lunar resources.
Let's make phase 2 happen already! Good luck Artemis!

You think snakes and bats and civets are available????? you obviously know nothing about this issue and you obviously never been to china
@@stevencoardvenice People need to stop eating animals in general. Cattle sheds in general are breeding grounds for viruses (see swine flu for a recent example), the amount of antibiotics mixed into their food is rapidly causing bacteria to become resistant to whatever antibiotics we can throw at them, it's a huge waste of agricultural ground that could otherwise be used to feed humans (it takes many kilos of cattle food to create 1 kilo of meat), animal agriculture is a huge source of greenhouse gases causing climate change and last but not least the majority of cattle are kept under circumstances that can only be described as torture. We've already figured from which plant sources we can get the nutrients and vitamins we usually get from animal consumption so there's really no logical reason why we still eat them. If there's one lesson the current COVID pandemic has taught us it's that the Earth cannot sustainably provide meat for 8 billion people.

@@blankforever5399 2024 has already slipped to 2028 for Artemis. We're now running so far behind schedule of human expansion that wealthy individuals are just doing it themselves instead of waiting for the government.
@@darthtiberius3716 Its because of a million different reasons, we spend more money funding our allies and NATO than we do in international aid to 3rd world countries. The simple fact is that the people in countries capable of funding space programs (the first world) face far too many practical day-to-day problems to care about space colonization, like poverty and medical debt. The only reason we had so many advances in the 50's and 60's is because it was internationally motivated by the cold war, it was more about measuring dicks than actual human curiosity in space. Once the competition was over, we stopped caring.
However, the biggest barrier to space exploration is simply the division on our own world. Countries are far too worried about enriching themselves more than their neighbors to focus on space travel, we wont see true progression in space until globalization has finally run its course and we stop looking at ourselves as a collection of nations on the globe and start looking at ourselves as earthlings part of something much greater.
The thing I love about this chanel, is that after every video I start vehemently googling stuff like I'm bout to change the world.

The best spots for initial colonies, the lunar poles, would have sunlight 24/7, except, perhaps, for relatively brief intervals of shade, lasting hours. The lack of any significant atmosphere would mean high powered solar energy reaching the collectors 24/7, as well, and covering the initial colonial buildings with a meter or two of lunar regolith would provide adequate protection, leaving the solar collectors exposed. This would be dramatically less expensive than treating lunar regolith with chemicals to create entire structures, requiring only simple bulldozer-type machines to move the regolith around.

I am surprised nobody mentioning artemis, which is technically the same thing as this, where instead of a base on moon, its the gateway in the orbit of moon, which can later be used to goto mars or the beyond. The thing is that, this video was made in 2018, a whole year before that was announced.
I think artemis is the beginning of all space travel. Scifi movies will become a reality because of this.
I was thinking of that
Artemis apparently wants to have a moon base by 2030. Artemis is promising as it is bringing us back to the moon in a period where there isn't that much of a Space Race (like the Cold War) meaning that it can be sustainable and won't end as soon as one side declares victory. I hope Artemis starts it all.

Im putting my vote on venus instead of mars tbh, it sounds much safer.
I wonder if that will be some everyday thing that we would hear in the future. Just as likely as someone saying "oh hey lol im from America"?

OOOOOOH a confirmed person aka recognized
Will people on the moon develop their own accent though?
Very likely as you can see something similar to scientists living in Antarctica for long periods of time
Well i guess it still kinda depends on what and how many different nationalities will be up there. If they’re all American it wouldn’t necessarily be a new accent probably just a blend of a few different sounds and pronunciations
It depends on who goes their as accents are mere pronunciations if you just have a bunch of USA citizens sent their everyone would just have an English (USA) accent, but if a large diversity of people with diverse accidents go their I wouldn’t be surprised if over time they culminate into some new lunese accent
Maybe
beltalowda!
It'd be interesting to explore the political side of trying to colonize the moon. What would economic treaties be like? Could a moon colony survive if Earth governments decided to cut imports from them? Who would benefit from technology discovered on the moon? How would a war between Earth and moon colonies seeking independence pan out, how hard would it be to achieve independency or to decimate moon colonies?
Also, the Kim Stanley Robinson Mars series (Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars)
Kuzgesagt is just laying down the ground work for thr better future of humanity if a president watches his videos and that president has a dream of turning humanity to a better species with a bright future he would do it no cap
You know you should discuss the effects on the anatomy of a child born on the moon or mars. Would they even be able to handle the gravity of Earth? That would be a great video.
I was thinking about this, I think the first few generations of people on the moon (if we let this happen) will suffer greatly from all kinds of issues with their body. And even if they evolve over an x amound of time to be ok with moon gravity, i think they won't be able to live on earth.
there´s a movie about this, though not scientifically proven.

On god, also say no to socialism and corporatism.
China yes but not Mexico.
That just means that when they eventually become power hungry, we on earth will finally have something to unite us all. Being smart doesn't necessarily mean being good.

I rewatch this video literally every couple months. Artemis has be completely amped! Hopefully if I have kids by the time they are adults humans on the moon is the average not a big deal.
We need a remake of this with the new Artemis launch.
Kurzgesagt sarcarsm is the world finest: "Sadly, getting governaments into doing long term investments for the good of humanity is hard"
Sad thing is it's not sarcasm
Hell they barely care about the short-term.
The "government" didnt make things profitable that it just becomes second nature to do it.
Is that sarcasm? I took it as a statement of fact.
We vote our governments in. People lucky enough to live in democracies should take some responsibility for our short-sighted government.

This is actually true, at least as I recall. Both private industry and governments are very interested for precisely that reason. The first ones to exploit space/the moon will have a huge advantage and probably be hailed as saviours of the race or some such.
tell the US that there is oil on the moon. That's all you need to do.
the US would invade the moon with a military force, bomb the shit out of it, declare victory and go home though
theres no oil on the moon tho
Nasa: I heard the moon has oil.
USA: DId somebody say oil?
USA: The moon is now on the CIA terrorist list and will be liberated with FREEDOM.

Five years after the video went up, we are in the process of establishing a moon base. We are getting the relay station ready to put in orbit around the moon. The Starship is in far into testing development and is big enough to bring large structures to the moon. The whole first stage will be a lander.
China also has plans to build a moon base. It’s harder to know how far along they are though.
Really enjoy how you have to get that dig in at western history, really makes the educational content of the video much better.
It's not a " dig " . It's a contrast.
