Chelsea is always so effortlessly funny and delightful. Also, Krischelle and Jeannie make quite the fun team. You can really tell they feel comfortable around one another. Cool!
There is a difference between the noun "soup" and the adjective "soupy." Lots of things that aren't soup can be soupy, but not all soupy things are soup. *Soup contains broth.* Added to that is food that is either puréed or cut into chunks. (For the sake of brevity, I'm including stock as a broth.) The broth has to be vegetable, bone, or meat (including seafood meats) based. Milk is not a broth. The broth can have things _added_ to it to thicken it up, like cream, flour, butter, puréed foods, et cetera, but a *soup* cannot be missing the broth. Melted ice cream, macaroni & cheese, traditional chili, and cereal in milk do not contain broth. Hence, they are not soup. You can argue that melted ice cream is a sauce, but it is not soup. The cheese sauce in mac & cheese is a _sauce_ - so, if your mac & cheese is soupy (there's that adjective), you're failing at mac & cheese.
Ramen and pho are literally classified as noodle soup dishes, so they are both a noodle dish and a soup dish. A food can fall into more than one category.
i agree with you on the part where both are soups, but i would like to point out that noodle soup is only soup that features noodles; noodles is just the word used to describe the soup. because udon is another "noodle soup" dish, but is only classified as udon because of the noodles, and not necessarily the soup aspect.
For me, the generalization of ‘soup’ is when the ingredients are cooked in liquid, and the liquid is served with it. Mac n Cheese strains out the water before adding in milk and other ingredients. Ice cream can be called soupy in texture, but I don’t know how it is prepared. Cereal isn’t prepared with the milk. But Oatmeal is straddling the line.
JC Maldonado A Bisque is a soup. As is Gazpacho. Cooked might not be the best word when applied to cold soups, since most people immediately infer the use of heat. But the ingredients do need preparation, and usually ice or prep time in the fridge.
To put it simply: Soup is an upgraded broth-based dish or component of a dish. 1. Ramen is basically noodles and soup. So Yes. 2. Chili is basically tomato and pepper soup with beans and meat. So Yes but it could be categorized more for a sauce. 3. Stew IS a soup. The difference is that it is heated for a longer period of time. 4. Mac and cheese aint a soup. Its just cheese sauce 5. Gspacho is Literally defined as Cold Tomato Soup. So Yes. 6. Melted Ice cream aint soup. And technically its not even proper food coz Ice Cream is only served frozen. 7. Cereals is NOT soup. It's literally just Milk.
on the money. these are all correct. chili is usually a soup, but doesnt have to be. ramen is usually a soup, but doesnt have to be either. gaspacho is a tough one however. tomatoes are fruit, not vegetabels. u do not HAVE to put meat or veg stock in, but most ppl do
@@febelpancake well, i hate to break it to you, but according to that definition, its a soup. chili can, has, and is served as a stand alone dish, so its not a dip. it is a meat based broth mixed with beans, meat and veggies. thats the definition of a soup. i think the biggest problem is not all of these foods are made the same way. u can make ramen with almost no liquid.. or u can make chili that has very little liquid, so i guess it depends.
mark kay Chili meets the criteria of being a stew more so than a soup. Stew is defined as a combination of solid food ingredients cooked in liquid and served in a gravy. Whereas in soup, meat is boiled within the stock or water that is used as a base. Soup needs stock and chili doesn’t
All of you misunderstood the meaning of soup. Soup is a flavored liquid typically with bits of solid meat or vegetables. Soup can be eaten by itself or can combine with other element such as rice or noodle to form a new dish. Ramen is a dish which combines soup and noodles. Porridge is a combination of soup and rice.
*"Now that I've added the milk to the cereal tell me, is that milk now a beverage, a broth, or a sauce? Answer carefully Mr. Johnson, your wife's life depends on it."*
Difference between soup and stew: Soup is broth that veggies meat etc.. can be added to. Stew is All the ingredients combined and cooked together as a mixture
Soup has to have a stock, which is a liquid base or broth made from vegetables or animal PARTS, and milk isn’t a physical part of the animal, its something the animal produces. With out a stock, you can’t have a soup so cereal isn’t a soup.
right. until vegan/keto people came along and try to pass off savory smoothies as 'soup', soups must be cooked. even gazpacho or vichyssoise are cooked, blended, then cooled. there is no cold brewed 'soup'. albeit you can steep dried mushrooms or dried kelp to make stock. it still requires hot water to start.
Tomato soup. I just destroyed your entire reasoning( lol I’m jk). And yes, you’re right cereal is not a soup, but that’s because without milk it’s still cereal and the milk isn’t mixing with anything else. To be qualified as soup, something must be cooked to become soup, even if it’s served cold later, stew is also too thick to be soup, though it’s quite close
Ok folks this is what defines what soup is. 1) It has to be based from a stock foundation. Stock is made by by simmering meats or vegetables in water to create it. Melted Dairy or Milk is not Stock. Milk is the very first protein substance that all female mammals make to feed their young. It is a mammary gland discharge that is edible. It is not stock. If some one argues that milk came from a cow and so does beef broth, that there is no difference. Ask them what part of the cow do you have to simmer to make milk broth. Melted Ice cream and soggy cereal with milk is not soup. Those are just tragic. 2) A stew is not soup. The difference? Thickness and cohesion of ingredients. If the base stock is no longer drinkable, then it is now a stew. As in you can't just pick up the bowl and drink it, or use a straw to drink it (bad manner aside). If the base stock and ingredients are now irrevocably inseparable, that is now a stew. Cream of Mushroom, potato soups and the like maybe inseparable once cooked, however they are still soup as you could just put them in a mug and drink it. Chili and beef stew is not a soup. You cannot drink chili or beef stew. If someone tells you that they can drink a stew or their chili, then eww that ain't stew or chili. They're drinking gravy.
If we're getting technical, cereal would be a chowder because it's dairy based (cereal is not a chowder). Stew is not soup because it's thickened to a gravy. Chili is a beef and tomato stew. Melted ice cream is a beverage, per my mother. Ramen is a soup, she just had the wrong utensils.
The funny thing about 1:50 is that while that discussion was going on I was googling Ramen in my native language because I never had it, and the only way I could get the food results was through "ramen soup". So google decided for me.
Danny's face at 0:22 is like "am I high already or is she really asking me this question?" XD He was hilarious during the entire episode, of course, but Chelsea was really funny too.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you had chicken in the ramen wouldn't it pretty much be just a Japanese version of chicken noodle soup. Like to me ramen is just a type of soup with noodles in it.
It's pretty much like saying that Cheeseburger is "Meat". Technically , ramens is a meal with noodles, broth and extras like ham, eggs, chicken etc. Mistakes come from the lack of word describing different soup-like meals. In France, we have 11 words for soup, not joking ;)
Hearty stuff like chili is NOT a soup....it’s a STEW! Stews contain a gravy base. Soup contains a broth/stock base. Melted ice cream is CREAM & sugar. ☝🏽🤓
Soup = a flavoured liquid with bits of vegetables, meat or other solids. Stew = is something (typically meat or vegetables) which are cooked in a flavoured liquid. All stews are soups, but not all soups are stews. Kinda like all BBQ is grilling but not all grilling is BBQ.

@@Ahmed-pf3lg Yes the broth is made from water, but it's slightly thicker due to the beef or chicken flavoring mixed with the water. But I agree otherwise.
Wow food is so diffrent. In Serbia soup is considered as liquid with little parts of stringy pasta(kinda like ramen). And the ones showed in video we call čorba(the word is probably from Turkey)...

Chili is NOT a soup. It is a Stew. Of course they asked about Stew next. Using the Strict Definition given Yes, Stew is a soup; But, stew is a THICKENED Soup.
in linguistics, it's called fuzzy edge phenomenon we cant define it because we dont know where it starts or end but weirdly majority of the people can agree on certain characteristics
Chili is not found in the soup section where I buy groceries (Wal-Mart). Instead, it's in the Hispanic food section. I personally think that's weird as chili is obviously a soup.
“Chili con carne or chilli con carne, meaning 'chili with meat', also known as simply chili or chilli, is a spicy stew containing chili peppers, meat, and often tomatoes and beans. Other seasonings may include garlic, onions, and cumin. The original dish originated in southern Texas with working-class Mexican women.” Wikipedia
Chili is a spicy meat stew. Stew is not a soup - stew and soup differ in viscosity. Stew is much thicker. Soup is thinner and more watery. Mac & cheese is a pasta dish. It's noodles in a sauce, not a broth. Again, far too viscous to be soup. Melted ice cream is not soup. It's the edible remains of ice cream. It's not really ANYTHING. It's an unintentional consequence. Gazpacho isn't a soup either. Soup had to be warm. Gazpacho is a sauce that people eat with a spoon. My mom eats salsa with a spoon. That doesn't mean the salsa is soup. People may call it soup, but they're wrong. Cereal is DEFINITELY not soup. Soup is savory. Cereal is essentially an uncooked porridge.
Okay... if melted ice cream is to be considered a soup..... than by that metric of logic: are milkshakes and smoothies soup? Melted ice cream is not a soup. I don't know why I even have to state that on record... >_
How is ramen and stew not soup? lol Also, I agree that cereal isn't soup, the point of soup is integrating ingredients to make the dish, cereal isn't really integrated, you just try to eat it before the cereal gets soggy (hopefully that makes sense)
In Serbian there is no mystery, there is only two kinds of soup: 1. СУПА (soup) clear broth made of vegetables or meat, thin noodles made especially for soup and very small amount of finely chopped vegetables 2. КРЕМ СУПА (cream soup) very creamy soup with no solid parts If something looks like soup but there's something else in it (meat or dumplings) that is called ЧОРБА (čorba)................. .......... that means.....every not solid dish that......is not soup .......is...............čorba................. GOD DAMN IT
by definition, all of these are soup. but by society standards, only things in loose both is soup. (expect the mac and cheese. if someone tells you mac and cheese is soup, get away from that person and don't ever trust them)

Chelsea’s smile is the best thing on the internet 😍
Chili is NOT a soup. It is a Stew. Of course they asked about Stew next. Using the Strict Definition given Yes, Stew is a soup; But, stew is a THICKENED Soup.
Exactly, which is why chili is a soup. 🤣
Jazzy Molina so its still soup u just said it lol

“They probably don’t know what gazpacho is.” Lmao and Troy is a cheffff??
in linguistics, it's called fuzzy edge phenomenon we cant define it because we dont know where it starts or end but weirdly majority of the people can agree on certain characteristics
Jacob Aeden Tan That isn’t the case though they give them a definition and ask them if the foods that are given to them are soups
Milk isn't broth. Cereal isn't soup

it is soup by definition
Phillip [TEC] period.
Gazpacho is LITERALLY CALLED a cold soup, because cold soups ARE a thing
@@carlycchapman Nope.
Okay... if melted ice cream is to be considered a soup..... than by that metric of logic: are milkshakes and smoothies soup?
Melted ice cream is not a soup. I don't know why I even have to state that on record... >_
who else was think to their selves “soup-er-fam” 😂

How is ramen and stew not soup? lol
Also, I agree that cereal isn't soup, the point of soup is integrating ingredients to make the dish, cereal isn't really integrated, you just try to eat it before the cereal gets soggy (hopefully that makes sense)
ramen = pulled noodles. ramen noodles = pulled noodles noodles. ramen noodles soup = pulled noodles noodles soup.
To 21% who agreed that melted ice cream is a soup, just want to know, who hurt you guys???
Ok but in China ramen is served with chopsticks and a SPOON
In Serbian there is no mystery, there is only two kinds of soup:
1. СУПА (soup) clear broth made of vegetables or meat, thin noodles made especially for soup and very small amount of finely chopped vegetables
2. КРЕМ СУПА (cream soup) very creamy soup with no solid parts
If something looks like soup but there's something else in it (meat or dumplings) that is called ЧОРБА (čorba).................
.......... that means.....every not solid dish that......is not soup .......is...............čorba.................
GOD DAMN IT
“I stand by my answers 100%!” Had me ROLLING! Absolute queen.
If it isn't cooked on a stove or in a crock pot, it isn't a soup. If it is, it's a soup.
There's cold soups like gazpacho though, sooo
I seriously love Danny hahahahhahaha
by definition, all of these are soup. but by society standards, only things in loose both is soup. (expect the mac and cheese. if someone tells you mac and cheese is soup, get away from that person and don't ever trust them)
There something called mac and cheese soup. It's where there is a cheese"broth"
@@jeng6786 i had mac and cheese soup. and that is a soup. not just mac and cheese
Faith cut off the ramen noodles with the spoon 😜 cereal by definition isn’t soup milk isn’t a broth 🤷♀️
Its a broth, but its not soup. Broth is just a liquidy substance that the solid food sits in. But, soup contains either meat, fish, or vegetables.
Cereal is NOT a soup I repeat NOT a soup
Water with ice cubes, is that soup?
