the best team for beginners is the team that they love the most from an aesthetics standpoint. You're gonna suck at it, and you're gonna love it. 2nd team is when you start to look at meta etc and build for the win
Just finished my full roster of 13 primaris scale Deathwatch veterans for KT. Every guy is completely kitbashed and unique, pretty much pulled bits from EVERY space marine kit. Used Phobos bodies for them as I like the sleek look of the armor much more than the "classic" bell bottom look of the intercessors.
Hopefully GW will one day honour my pre-order for my Kasrkin kill team. I bought them entirely for the aesthetics and a planned conversion before ever even seeing the rules. I would just proxy them with scions but a box of 5 scions costs as much as the full kill team.
I recommend the same teams to my mates that haven't played ever or much before over and over again: 1. Deathguard - The are just insanely durable and very forgiving. For someone that is really interested to keep playing I wouldn't advise them because they are too forgiving and playing different, flimsier teams may turn out difficult afterwards. 2. Intercession - obviously 3. Breachers - Of the more numerous teams I have tried they seem to be the most durable (8-11 wounds and 4+/2+ save), equipment is very easy and the basic "buddy system" tactics are rather easy to pull off. Tac Ploys are rather wordy, so just skip them. I am however limited by the teams I own currently, so maybe that might change in the future Lastly I need to add: Legionaries are incredible fun to kitbash. I have a mixed team built from a box of Traitor Marines, Sisters of Battle, green stuff and spare parts. They are by far my favoroite team to build and expand
As someone who was tough like 20 people by now, I would advise against Deathguard, their "protoss death ball" style of play is too different from every other team.
Void Dancers were my second Kill Team, mainly because my FLGS had a sale on them. I knew they were powerful but was surprised how easy they were to play. It is possible to completely screw yourself on your first turn, although I have managed to win despite a poor first turn.
"I don't do the diamond cloth thing and I hate my life anyways." Holy shit as someone that hates painting (even if it turns out decently) this spoke to my freaking soul. Great video!
A couple of surprise/less obvious ones to keep us on our toes. Great. As encouraged, I have been keeping an eye on Full Scale, even watching through a few old vids for 'solidarity'. Rather looks like stuff has disappeared _off_ that channel so far though!
I'd add the Phobos Team. They are like intercessors but all have either AP1 or Lethal 5. And you can add a sergeant, veteran and marksman that hits on 2s. And they have a medic. All weapons are bolt weapons so you will pop bolter disciplin every round or use guerilla tactics to become concealed after said shooting.
Heh, my first killteam was... well, like 6 all at once 😂. I loved the idea of small scale 40k that i committed really hard before ever playing a game hah. Just being able to have 1 team of many factions is a lot of fun.
Great beginner question, sure. So, when Kill Team launched it had something called the "compendium" which had generic teams based on the main 40k factions. They were pretty barebones and didn't have a lot of depth and special abilities like the Kill Team specific "specialist" teams have. But it was still a fun book to start the edition and allowed people with existing 40k armies to get straight into the ruleset.
The fact that Void Dancers require so little ability or mastery of the game, yet have a staggering win rate just goes to show how much they need to be fixed.
@@joshschoonover2645 The point is that two roughly equally skilled players playing a game the player using Void Dancers will win significantly more often. Ability is a factor, but noobs will never win tournaments no matter how broken a faction is, because highly skilled players that just care about winning would also be playing Void Dancers, or whatever factions is the most broken at the moment.
Honestly my answer to this would also be Intercessors Kill Team. (I still need to get some of the assault Intercessors so I can build a grenadier mini but other than that and maybe some more tilting shields I have a gun line based team with some basic assault Intercessors to swap in. I still mainly plan on using a "normal" kill team board from the 2018 starter set because it's what I prefer. But otherwise I like how most of the teams are looming currently. My housemate still has his Tau Pathfinders and his Voiddancers Troupe. He also has his Death Guard. I am planning on building more Kill Teams but I will see how it goes. I have some Phobos Marines, as well as some Tactical Marines. I eventually want to get the new Legionnaries kit
Last episode of sqad games podcast had Brett fellow on chatting about Kasrkin. And damn they sound good, some good tactical ploys and tac ops. And listening to how good they are at taking on elite teams. I'm between jobs but looking to see if there is a local kill team meta in my area to be a beginner just skint now lol.
My own first team was (and is, still play with 'em) compendium greenskins. I do get why compendium teams are seen as lesser, but I've still won some games. Hopefully non-Kommando orks get a new team or something someday so they can be more competitive. I think Legionaries will be my next team anyways, I am looking to branch out.
I agree, would really like to see Orks as the first xeno team to get a second team, especially because cool as the Kommandos are they aren't particularly orky of a playstyle or all that competitive anymore.
@@ant6227 The Imperium has like half a dozen individual kill teams that are some variant of "some human dudes" not to mention astrates. If that's the standard they're gonna set then the xenos factions could really use some love. Man I can think of so many fun ideas for the orks. A specialist stormboyz team that can take units with the fly ability An all grot Gretchin Revolution team An elite team composed of a smaller number of nobz and meganobz, maybe just one meganob as the leader Some way to take a weirdboy for psychic power shenanigans.
No, no. I mean that if you want to play Kasrkin in KILL TEAM, then you can run krieg or scion or Cadian models quite easily if you prefer them from a thematic perspective. All you need to do is put thos eproxy models on to 25mm bases. No mention of big 40k in this one :)
Did you really squat for that whole video?!? Get a chair dude!! I’m glad I picked up VD … wait that sounds bad 😂 i like the models … I’m going to work Solitaire in as a proxy because it’s another pretty model… no diamond patterns though 🤢
Okay, so this is going to sound odd, but there's an energy to a performance that gets removed when sitting. When I'm standing or squatting, I feel more energised and like I'm performing. When I'm sitting, I feel like I'm monotonely getting across basic information. Even if that doesn't come across in my videos, or people prefer the monotone basic information, I personally feel more into it when not sitting. There is a chair right on the other side of the desk for next time, we'll see how I do xD
Kasrkin will never make it to the top brackets, what an interesting inclusion. They're quite bad with the incorrect 4+ ballistic skill instead of the 3+ they're supposed to have. Combined with the difficulty in physically obtaining a box, Kasrkin are one of the worst teams for new players (or any players) to pick up in their current state. Always great to see some humor thrown into your videos, though! Great advice on the others. Void Dancers are for sure the fun and strong pick. They truly play their own version of the game, which is always fun to utilize and play against.
Here's where I'd put my Kasrkin... If I had any! Seriously, the Guards players should stop hogging all the Kasrkin boxes, pretty please. Thanks for the video, very informative as usual!

Yeah, Scions are ridiculously overpriced.
LMFAO🤣 that ending, great work dude
I appreciate the fact that you come out of the gate and say Intercession is the no-brainer answer.
Great job on the video man!
This video has inspired me to make a proxied harlequin killteam with nighthaunt models (AoS)

Best outro ever.

Thanks for the idea of playing Seraphim as Void Dancers. I now have another kill team (with no additional work required).

I'm just getting into 40k and Kill Team. Can you explain the compendium thing? Are they looked down on or is it just a lack of options to really grow?
Great beginner question, sure. So, when Kill Team launched it had something called the "compendium" which had generic teams based on the main 40k factions. Compendium teams are good to start with because they have simple rules, but are bad to continue using because they have simple rules
I have some of the old 1st edition metal Harlequins. Painted them as mimes. Motley was above my skill level then.
I think you made the right choice to consider voiddancer.
The fact that Void Dancers require so little ability or mastery of the game, yet have a staggering win rate just goes to show how much they need to be fixed.
To be good they require a decent amount of ability. Also I'd bet noobs with void dancers aren't winning tournaments.
@@joshschoonover2645 The point is that two roughly equally skilled players playing a game the player using Void Dancers will win significantly more often. I like the multiple camera angles; it makes me feel like a caged animal, pacing around my confines.

Still running my compendium Cadian team to this day, half kasrkin/scions, half normal cadians. 2 plasma, 2 grenade launcher
Very good topic

Dreamin of kitbashing Dkok with Kasrkin for Dkok Grenadiers to be played with Kasrkin rules 🤩

Why would you have to play kasrkin as Scions or Krieg in 40k? They have their own table in the AM codex.
