  • Here’s our take on the Vinyl Boxy Pouch that #oklaroots introduced us to quite a while back. We use the same dimensions, we just construct it “our way” which is the easiest, fastest way that we have come up with! (Different techniques, same results)
    Here are the dimensions:
    Clear Vinyl Boxy Bag Measurements:
14” Zipper Tape (and 1 zipper pull)
    Base (1): 12" x 9"
Top Panels (2): 12" × 4.25" (if not using binding to cover edge of vinyl by zipper, cut top 4.5" tall instead)
    Pull Tabs (2): 1" x 3.5"
    Zipper Binding (2): 0.5" x 12"

Love these color choices the peacock solid is yummy and rocks with the clear flowered. I enjoyed the most watching you add your zipper by the yard pull. I bought one of those towel holders to make a zipper pull tool but I couldn't get it to work for me and ended up just pulling them on. I do a lot of outdoor heavy duty fabrics and usually if it's seat or cushion covers or bags I like double zipper pulls that meet in the middle together. It takes quite a bit of playing sometimes to get them to not have any gaping when they zipped to meet each other. I just made 12 zipper double pulls for a 22 year old RV refurbishing project and reupholstery and it was quite the job to get them to play nice. I have seen this technique where you sew each piece of zipper onto the fabric first and add the zipper pull after and it seems to work smoothly but I just have been chicken to try it. I've got a few bags to make as small little gifts and will bite the bullet and give this a try I'll also try the double zipper pulls using this to see if it impresses me and makes my life easier. As to my RV cushions I cut them out this past fall and it's my deep winter project which I find my DEEP WINTER running out. I've got 2 more weeks and Spring will be hitting here and I hope to be done. I've had tension problems with my older manual machine and it's one thing to fix it on fabric but vinyl is a do once and no twosies. as you know. No pins and no rip out seams and sew again for same reason. Not sure I keep thinking it's my machines timing is off but my husband swears not. I traded the bobbin carrier from one machine to the next I have 4 of these machines because my 1962 machine my parents gifted me with at the age of 12 is my favorite machine period and I picked up other machines for spares and also sewing outside during summers under a covered patio. At first it seemed the swiched out parts was working then boom it wasn't the thread pulls out of the bobbin carrier path and jams up. You can hear it happen. My outside machine isn't doing that but it has the tension problem. Though my husband thinks he fixed the tension problem. I haven't gotten back to check that out. Oh the joys of keeping our machines humming along. For years my original machine never did so much as a hiccup. Now it's just giving me fits. But the odd thing is it'll work like long periods perfectly then it chokes so to speak. Enjoyed your video. I just bought some antistick needles to try and wondered if it might work with the tape. I only used this tape in 2018 to make windows in my rain fly in a tent that when the fly was on you could not see out at all. I had two episodes that really needed to have a window. One where young male elk were damaging peoples tents and the other when some creep was driving into my campground 5 times in a row over a 24 minute period starting at 3 a.m. I camp solo as a female a lot as hubby of 52 years is not a camper but is fine with me going off on my own. But that un-nerved me enough to watch salirite how to put in a window on a small sail and I applied it to four sides of the fly and now I can see out all directions. It used this type of tape. And it worked super well. No leaks what so ever. So find it fascinating to see it used for zipper applications. I have a large roll left over so would be nice to use it up. Another thing to give it a try. Thanks for your clear tutorial steps today and taking the time to share.

Over on your video about sewing bias tape both sides together.. do the edges of the binding remain raw? I only have straight stitch machine so can’t do decorative.

    • @WombmateCreations
      @WombmateCreations  8 місяців тому

No, it’s a double fold binding so it does not have raw edges

What kind of lighter do you use to shrink the thread ends?

    • @WombmateCreations

It’s a small butane lighter that u can get on Amazon or many gas stations and smoke shops have them as well.

Hi ladies. First time for me watching your channel.
I retired back in January from my pub life so I now have plenty of extra time to sew.
I really like the boxy bag patterns. I recently bought some TPU vinyl from Temu which I will use for this pattern.
I like the idea of the half inch accent strip for the zipper.
Thanks for an easy to follow tutorial and the hints and tips.
Take care and best wishes from here in the UK
