    Love the cat! Great project also. I especially like using cedar wood for flame finish. You could also have some fun with an angle grinder. Harbor Freight had one recently for $10.

    • @NoRoads2AllRoads
      @NoRoads2AllRoads 6 років тому

      instead of forstner bit you can also use a spade drill bit... same effect as a forstner - other than the deeper part in the middle - and much cheaper...

    You can get a wood shaping disc that will fit a small, 4" or 4 1/2" grinder and you can do some good shaping with it. All in all, I liked the project, I would not have thought about doing that with just a piece of lumber, great idea. Oh, the man bun, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, not such a good idea !

    Truly lovely, thanks for the idea. Couple of pointers:
    1. He put his hair up, she needs to do the same. You are working with flames!
    2. Circular saw to cut away wood? No, too risky and wrong tool - cannot get much depth of cut. A table saw would have been better.
    3. Using a wire cup brush or knotted wire brush on an angle grinder (or bench grinder for this project) will give you the scooped out wood in case you want this effect without propane.
    4. Using a nylon cup brush on angle grinder (keep below 5000 rpm) or on a drill will 'sand' out the burnt wood while keeping the textured grooves. This is a lot faster than manual brushing.
    5. Melt the beeswax. Add Boiled Linseed Oil (from Home Depot) to it. Apply with a brush. Faster and lubricates wood better.
    6. Invest in the Bernzamatic TS8000 torch trigger ($40 on Amazon or HD). This is an auto ignite system with fine burn control. Get the narrow Bernzomatic) propane bottles (HD) for same price as propane tank per lb ($3.49 in my area) - easier to hold than Coleman, and less pricey.
    7. Your drill is being held sideways. Hold it straight. A straight hole drains water faster and this rots the wood less quickly. Use a much bigger drill bit else your succulents will be too wet inside.
    8. I would also burn the inside a bit, then coat with a polyurethane, including the large bottom holes. This will make it water resistant and rot resistant. Untreated wood brings fungus to plant roots.
    Thanks again, very lovely work!

      A couple pointers? Let the man do his thing. If you wanna tell people exactly how to do things, make your own video or get a job as a manager so your obsessive, meddlesome nature can be put to use as an example of the worst way manage people.
