I run Rocco for Rocco. I've had alot of people see my deck and go "oh you run a hidden commander" and I kinda laugh. I use and bounce Rocco repeatedly to tutor up combo pieces. "Getting the kitchen ready" once the combo kicks off "I ring the dinner bell" and Rocco puts every creature from my deck onto the battlefield. It's fun, and you can do some really goofy things with it. However I have always seen Rocco as the one and only commander for the deck.
I’m working on a Rocco deck with Raggadragga as the secret commander. Since both commanders want a lot of mana dorks and have combo potential, I think there’s a fun deck to be made there.
For a while ive been wanting to build a deck with Westvale Abbey as the hidden commander. I just love Ormendahl. I messed around with the new Jeren but im not a huge fan bc dropping down to 13 is dangerous in my playgroup.
5:19 I play Magic with the guys that got me into commander to start with. i built a regular Commander deck (trying to figure out a hidden commander deck right now) focused around Jin Gitaxias, specifically the Progress Tyrant variant. All but 3 creature cards in my deck are artifact creatures and I run a lot of artifacts and mana rocks, some of which my creatures are too. Jin's main ability is artifact replication.. I have artifacts like Thran Dynamo.. Mystic Forge.. Darksteel Forge.. it's my favorite deck because it has next to no counter spells and it really gets going quite well if it get a good hand. All this to say that my favorite part has been the rest of the group not only letting me play (Jin's second ability is countering instants, sorceries, or artifacts once per each turn) but they also suggest cards to make it better. It's a mark of pride for me because it went from an amalgamation of random cards to me actually learning how to build a deck around the Commander. My group contributed a lot to that. My Blue deck that doesn't quite do blue things.
I’ve combined hidden commander and modular deck building with Rocco. Brewed up eight total 23 card modules. I’ll be able to take with me 8 decks in only 3 deck boxes. I’m excited
Good video I just googled Rocco edh since I just built a deck with it in a day but funny enough we locked him to use mutiple hidden commander type ideas good video. I ended up going for a 6 card Magda horse master combo and a powerbalance engine worked great for this
My hidden commander decks revolved around a much more powerful legendary creature in the 99 that when resolved kicked the deck up several notches. For instance, back in 2017 I made a mono red warrior deck and the best legendary for that at the time was Neheb the Eternal but he was seen as a power house and major threat, which he is. So I went with Lovisa Coldeys instead and focused on ways to try and draw into or pull out Neheb while getting the most value out of the deck with her at the helm which also opened up a few extra playpaths
Rocco is also great as an equipment deck. Tutor for stoneforge mystic or pure steel paladin depending on the situation. Also, getting green mana dorks and the new green equipment is awesome!
My Kamiz deck with the Vorpal Sword as my hidden commander is the only deck I've ever won with at an LGS. I have 10 EDH decks. Lol. 😢😢😢. Love this video.
I'm thinking that Rocco would also be a good choice for Sliver tribal, weirdly enough. Although you do lose out on some colors and high end payoffs, think about how impactful your creature tutors are when they effect EVERY creature on the board. Of course, it would be a good 99 pick as well, but I'm still waiting on Sliver Queen money.
Experimental Overload makes an X/X token where X is the number of instants and sorceries in your graveyard. I wanted to make a secret voltron commander out of that but never got around to it.
My First Commander deck ever was Zaxara, and it was great to play. Until I found out that people online had been building Zaxara wrong (leading me a newbie to also build it wrong). A lot of the cards with effects that care about the power of creatures as they enter the battlefield like Evolve (see Fathom Mage or Gyre Sage), Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner, Garruk's Uprising, etc. did not work. Anyway, I was really annoyed, and I build an X spell deck using Kydele and Vial Smasher with Zaxara as the secret commander using all the green creature tutors like Green Sun's Zenith and Chord of Calling etc. It is a fun deck. But honestly, over time, I realized I liked the simplicity of a regular Zaxara deck a little more. I will say, one way to cover the weakness of a secret commander being hard to get back after they die, is to have alternatives. For example, in my Zaxara secret commander deck I had basically 7-8 alternatives to Zaxara in case it ever got milled, killed, or exiled. Zaxara does 2 things: make blockers based on X spells and makes mana to play bigger x spells to deal damage to enemies. I used these to make blockers: Zaffai Thunder Conductor, Deekah Fractal Theorist, Metallurgic Summonings, and Shark Typhoon. I used these to make extra mana for x spells: Rosheen Meanderer, Nyxbloom Ancient, Kruphix God of Horizons, and Azusa Lost but Seeking and other ramp to get lots of mana normally (Azusa also works really well with X draw spells). Anyway, for anyone interested, this is my deck list with Zaxara as a secret commander: www.moxfield.com/decks/UBdEI70AEkGYeXJLhy65zw And this is my regular Zaxara deck: www.moxfield.com/decks/HhF36-0j8kmoe2zp-U44wQ Be warned, these decks aren't optimal and don't have many cards I would have liked to add but didn't have the budget to buy like Dockside, and I have many pet cards like Plasm Capture. Also, I am not the best deck builder anyway.
My wheel deck is nothing but Timetwister like cards about 21 or so yes there are that many Lord of Tresserhorn is the commander i never summon but it is a burn wheel deck with leyline of anticipation in it also a Nekusar if i want to switch the commander for a higher power game
This is a great video like always, I am currently building a hidden commander deck that is very spicy but seems to inconsistent. I actually have TWO hidden commanders Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer and Esix, Fractal Bloom. Iv always wanted to find a way to have Esix in my brudiclad deck because they synergize so well together but they do not share the correct color combination. Do you or anyone in the comment section have any tips? I have not seen any content on the internet around building TWO hidden commanders of different color identities before, I think its an intresting idea.
This is where color identity is incredibly important. You want Red, Blue, and Green for your hidden commanders and Black is the best "jam as many tutors as possible in" color.
@@CommanderMechanic never thought of putting black in, it could be good, at that point I might as well make it 5 colors and then use friends forever commanders Cecily, Haunted Mage // Othelm, Sigardian Outcast to make use of Othelms graveyard recursion for the hidden commanders. I'm just worried that the deck would change to much with that much color.
@@v1talsign393 Jegantha is easier to cast because it is already in your hidden commanders' colors. It gives tou access to white and a splash of populate subtheme (Song of the Worldsoul and Extravagant Replication can do a mess on the battlefield). Access to black gives you the possibility to get things back from the graveyard. You just need to put the Vivid lands and you will be fine.
Maybe I am a bad person, but if someone tells me not to blow up their 30+ dollar card that just runs away with counter strategies I know already what's gonna happen. No need to see it. Seriously, either we play magic and you have a way to protect your secret commander. Or we agree before game day to certain deck building restrictions, like no removal to exile or the like. But if someone before a game starts telling me I can't do certain (pretty normal) things, because they feel bad otherwise, I am not even playing. That person does only have their own fun in mind.
There isn’t a lot of benefits to a hidden commander if there’s no protective benefits... at that point, why even bother saying anything? Why on earth would I say, ‘I’m playing with (-) as my hidden commander) if A.) there will be no benefits to mentioning it (for example, if it changes zones, shuffle it back into the deck, or put it on the bottom of the deck). Or B.) other players will know that this specific card enables your entire strategy so saving a path to exile, or any number of other great removal spells just to shut down your whole deck. Hell, at that point, any tutor you play will just tell everyone else where to point the removal. My brother mentioned hidden commander as an idea for one of my decks but after looking at this, it seems counterintuitive to even say anything 😒 It’s a cool concept, it just sounds pointless
I've done hidden commander decks on the channel before, like a FULL BUILD around Fractured Identity here:

I'm building Rocco, but more for silver bullets/prison builds. Rocco is legitimately the commander in my deck.
I run Rocco for Rocco.

Ive always been interested in playing niambi as a teferi tutor commander, I live the concept but I lack the deck building knowledge to do it
I personaly have a muldrotha commander deck builded around tergrid has the second commander of the deck. It painfull to play against xD
How could i use him as commander in equipment deck?
Is there a list for Academy Manufacturer as a hidden commander
You can find that video with a link to the list in the description here:

i know it wont be optimal.... but i just really want a obsidian fireheart hidden commander
I want a scute swarm secret commander
I hide maralen and Opposition in all my decks that have black😅😂
That's fucking Sick Bro
