Is Dirty Bomb worth your in in 2024? Let's play and see how this almost nine year old fps game is doing at the beginning of the new year! Is it still fun to play and are there still people playing Dirty Bomb? Let's find out!
game was amazing back in the day, played it the day it released. the downfall of dirty bomb was also amazing. it was the one time where every die hard competitive player just said "change this back or we quit" and then when splash damage tried to call their bluff everyone actually said "alright everyone shut it down. we're done here". every major streamer stopped playing it, the entirety of the competitive scene shut down (all privately run too. they would go and get sponsors for prize money and everything) every die hard fan stopped and they lost over half the player base in like two month lmao. you can see it on the steam charts still. from july to september of 2015 is when the phantom update came out and then the melee nerf happened shortly after. before phantom came out you could basically free-spin while melee'ing. there was no limiting of your movement. if you wanted to spin 360 while in the knife animation, you could do it. so you get phantom with the katana and you could just stealth into a room and spin in circles and kill like three people. which was insanely op and game breaking and everyone said "you gotta nerf this guy". but instead of nerfing phantom or removing the katana they nerfed the entirety of melee to where it is now and everyone lost their minds. one of the greatest revolts in gaming history that i got to watch lmao. sad it happened to dirty bomb because it was a fun game but it was a glorious revolt lmao.
Thanks for your comment! I knew a bit about this scenario, but not all, so thanks for filling in the "blank parts" for me :) There's always a balance when it comes to listening to the community when it comes to feedback, but also stick to the game plan as a developer. Sometimes they should have listened more and sometimes less. I guess this is an obvious example (at least when it comes to Phantom, that nerfing melee overall wasn't the solution. To bad though, would have loved to see DB continue to grow as a game.
I feel like devs weren't good enough players themselves to understand how to manage game and balance it out properly. One of the lastest things they did was to nerf Dreiss AR (which imo was obviously the strongest gun with much lower Time To Kill than any SMG/assault rifle at any range [0.4 ms vs ~0.5 ms for most of SMGs/ARs], competitive against snipers at long ranges too, which i also used to play 80% of the time) with higher bullet spread - what they did is basicly turn a gun that's supposed to be a bridge between snipers and assault rifles and give it the exact opposite feature as it should have. To me the most obvious move should be to increase TTK with lower base damage and combine it with lower damage falloff and sligtly lower spread - giving an edge over SMGs/ARs only at longer ranges and force player to headshot more consistently.
Oh the memories, I played this religiously back in 2015-2016 and during my lowest moment in life too, now I'm almost healed from the trauma and playing this then was the only thing that kept me sane
the wall jumping, unique abilities, everything about this game back in 2015-2016 (the years i played the most) was SO good i was so sad that they shut down their servers. this game was genuinely frustrating when the other team was destroying mine, but it always pushed me to be better instead of ragequitting. RIP DB
Thanks for sharing your DB memories! But also pointing towards something that almost is "forgotten" in times where many games have strong SBMM settings; instead of rage quitting, you took it as a challenge and it made you a better player at the end of the day. I've experienced the same thing, not only in DB, but also other "old school" game :)
I just played this game at 2AM(haven't played in years), first it was only 5 people in the lobby then it climbed to 14 and its insane how well this game holds up in 2024, makes me so sad. The game died because the developers ruined it but playing now it just shows that the foundation of the game is good. Is the game worth playing? Idk, its hard to tell with a "dead" game, maybe a huge uptick of players would show the devs that people really do want this game to be alive but that's my hopeless optimism. Again just makes me sad because its a very solid game that no other objective based team shooter can touch, in my opinion.
I've always played this game every time I get bored, I have just over 2000 hours in it. This game is so freaking fun when teams are actually balanced and not one sided.
I put in 800 hours on this game man it was one of my all time favorites. I played it compulsively leading up to overwatch release. I never knew what happened to it I knew it was in beta for so long I had no idea about the entire player base quitting over the melee change? I stopped playing because overwatch had come out and it was a blast. This game will forever hold a place in my heart from 2015-2016 when I had nothing that fun to play.
Thanks for your comment and feedback! Even though there's very few people playing DB today, thanks to the community and their servers, the game has managed to be "playable" also after Splash Damage stopped supporting the game in 2019.
Ahh man nostalgia hits hard ❤ Dirty Bomb was my first ever game when I entered the world of FPS. It taught me how to play and what to expect from a FPP FPS game. Impressive...a lot of hours invested in competitive fps games :) Nice to hear that DB gave you the interest and also knowledge how to play similar games, so you could take on your journey with those titles later on :)
My guess for the surge in population within the last few months is the hype for XDefiant. It only just released, 10 months ago I got to play the closed beta, and it reminded me a bit of Dirty Bomb, they have a bit of the same feel, they scratch the same itch. So I found myself playing some Dirty Bomb for a bit. Also, the netxode on XDefiant is so bad, man I miss the good old days of prime DB
Thanks for your comment! You could be right, the XDefiant hype could have helped out DB a bit when it comes to curious players checking it out for the first time. My recent video is about XDefiant, since I've played quite a few hours already. It's a pretty fun Cod clone (more or less), but it sure needs improvements when it comes to netcode. I hope they can improve that.
God, this game is already a decade old?! I loved playing it, it felt so good. My only problem with it was the RNG microtransaction-fueled loadouts and the mercenary named Proxy, with her stupid mines. I thought this game was shutdown, glad it isn't. I should revisit it.
Some years back, Splash Damage stopped supporting and updating the game. However, there are community servers available that makes it possible to still play DB. There's of course not as many players as before, but during peak hours at least, you should be able to play with full teams :)
Just recently saw this game in my library again, but i only have 8 hours played and very few memories, but i recognize some maps in the video. I dont remember why i stopped playing. What a weird trip
Thanks for your feedback! Sometimes we do stop playing certain games without a know reason, so to say. Sometimes I do that for example if none of my friends are playing the game.
The player base is now less than 100 people. Which is a shame because Dirty Bomb is one of the best online FPS Multiplayer games ever created. Nothing else comes close to it
Are you sure that if I go onto the controller setting on steam my controller won't work on dirty bomb because my friend got me a dirty bomb just about a year and a half ago and I've always wondered if it is possible to use a controller
I guess the best way is to just plug in a controller and see if it works. Since there's no controller support, I doubt it will work. But again, it would be cool if it was possible :)
I remember playing Dirty Bomb when i was a new college student and the gameplay you showed looks new to me lol i used to play that character with a katana and just run around meleeing everyone haha very nostalgic.
I loved TF2 and Overwatch however I always thought that Dirty Bomb was the best middle ground between the two big hero shooters. I think if Dirty Bomb had a bigger company behind it then it would have definitely been bigger but it will always hold a special place in my heart. Its just a great game that just at its core is such a good shooter. It also has such good gunplay and feels better than most competitive games today.
Played the hell out of the game during its “prime” I refused to change my controls so sprint and dash jumping caused my hand to cramp like crazy not even mentioning combining long jumps with wall jumps
A truely amazing game. Basically a reskin and update of RTCW:ET which i played for thousands of hours and then put in about 1400 into DB. I hate new games that put in aim assist and have terrible movement. Dirty bomb felt so fluid with running and gunning.
Thanks for your comment! I never played RTCW:ET, but I did watch a video to check it out, and I understand what you mean. It also looks old school in a good way, seems to be people still playing the game in 2024, so I might check it out :)

@@alonsoquijano9555 Cool! Yes, I believe Splash Damage have a chance here to make a great fps game that could do well if they decided to make a Dirty Bomb 2.
Thanks for your comment! Would be sad if someone was faking the numbers (Steam charts). Not sure why anyone would do that. And if so, why not push it up to plus 1k or mores? Again, I don't have a good explanation either since DB is a game with no more updates. Otherwise that could have been an explanation , if for example a new season started.
We suspect that it's about ripping off money. There are always player peaks, even though the servers are almost empty. However, it takes forever if you use bots to get daily credits@@40splishsplash
For me personally it’s not worth my time anymore even if it gets a resurgence cause I’ve put a lot of time into it just to not improve much. Still can’t track well or get the silver kill badge. If I had better aim and there were more US servers I’d enjoy the game more.
Thanks for your comment and thoughts! I understand how you feel, especially since there's quite many DB veterans left in the game now (mostly), so the matches can become quite sweaty, since the player base is small. So not so much variation between matches etc.
I remember wanting to play this for a while and then eventually, I downloaded it, only to never touch it again because the first time I joined, I wasn't familiar with the map and there was barely any team play, but more squawking by an obvious veteran. From what I see, it's a good game, but that match just ruined it for me and it was my first one and would probably be the last ever lol. Multiplayer games smh. I may give this game a chance again if I were to feel generous.
Thanks for your comment and feedback! Yes, this is unfortunately a scenario that has happened to quite a few, when trying to play an older game (somewhat competitive), when there's a small player base, and the ones that are playing the game has often spent hundreds of hours into the game already. Well, I hope you're able to give it another try at some point. Cheers :)
Damn, looks really fun. Team oriented, gunplay focused game where abilities are a side mechanic rather than a crutch? (Atleast from the gameplay i'm seeing) Wish i knew about this game when it was alive.
Nice that you're mentioning BRINK. I was only able to play BRINK a bit. But yes, I would like to see a BRINK 2 as well, I believe they've learned quite some from making the first game, so it would probably be even better.
I have thought about creating a "Dirty Bomb 2" since the movement and gunplay is unique compared to modern shooters... might just have to go for it now!
Haven't play DB for 6 years, according to steam. And just today i download it and oh boy, this game is absolute banger. No complex ballistics, great dynamic, big variety of merks, playstyles. Just so fun to play. This is so damn sad, that DB is clinically dead at this point. Kudos to the mad lads that keep some life in the game.
Nice to hear that you went back and played DB once more...Yes, it is a great fps game, for sure. I guess that's the reason why there's still some community servers up and running, committed players that are keeping the game alive even though the player base is very small now :)
ive got 600+ hrs in this game and its still my favourite PVP shooter. Sadly the vast skill difference sometimes makes it really hard to enjoy. Playing against Godlike Snipers and 1000+hrs tryhard Sparks just turns this game into a unfun mess. but every now and then i find a game with plebs like me and im having the most fun i could have in a PVP shooter. When i watched your video it really made me hopefull but seeing the rest of the comments quickly took the wind out of my sails. But ill still get back on it to get my yearly fix of proxy/Phoenix Bullshittery :P.
Thanks for your comment and feedback! You describe it all very well. The game is of course in it's current state, isn't as it used to be. But...I'm also returning once in a while back to DB, since I do need that "kick" as well, playing the game once more. The gameplay and the matches in it's best moments are really hard to beat, in comparison with other games :)
to this day still my most played game got 3k hours on it's really fun since i stopped playing this game i moved to fighting games but db is still a great memory especially when played with friends
i really really really enjoying this game with my 3 other friend, almost every night we played it at least for 2 hours, grind with stoker and proxy, sad to see it...
Thanks for saying! Yes, Dirty Bomb in it's prime days was "the shit". I'm glad though that you still can play it thanks to community servers although there's a really small player base nowadays .)
I can’t enter sign in issue and try installing and uninstalling. Same thing, best moment I play this game ever! I thought this game is shut down or something? Let me know 😊
Don't know why your game isn't working...Do you get an error message? Dirty Bomb is running on community servers since quite some years ago. (No official support any longer).
@@starn9 Yea I totally agree. I have a few hundred hours in The Finals. When I first started playing it I was like why does this feel like Dirty Bomb. Can't put my finger on what exactly, maybe the gun play or movement.
Been playing the game for years now and it's still the best feeling shooter I have ever played. Every other shooter just feels slow and boring in comparison. The movement and the animations are just unmatched in this game. The cricket bat is hilarious.
Thanks for your feedback when it comes to DB! Yes, it's really hard to match DB in so many ways. I wish we would see a similar shooter being released in a nearby future :)
The main thing that damaged this game was bad marketing, the only advertisment was done at E3 before launch, the intial player base was ok but abit low in numbers for the time, as time went on that number got smaller, add in nexom going banckrupt, a few wrong dev choices and abit of missamangament of the ranked mode and the game became unsustainable, the devs did try though and at the very least, despite cutting developmente, they gave us the full game, fully free, impossible to spend money, all cosmetics for in game currency and in generall a way to still play the game. Other companys would have just pulled the plug a shut everything down
Well, it's been under the "radar" the last 5-6 years, since there's no longer any official support any longer by the devs. It's still up and running rhanks to community servers :)
I've came back to DB for few days and if more time passes then it's harder to play. Huge disproportion between new players and veterans, it's practically unplayable you either stomp players that don't know what keyboard is or you get stomped by a Vassily that has so perfect aim that's so close aimbot Was it fun? kinda... but I can't keep up anymore. Additionally for some reason recently all servers had serious disconnection and lag problem The saddest part there's no other game that has similar gameplay to DB, this game has specific gunplay and TTK
Thanks for your comment and feedback! Yes, the scenario you're describing is probably something that many players have experienced or are experiencing when playing DB in 2024 (myself included). But again, when the teams are somewhat equally balanced and everyone is playing the objective, then it is hard to find another game that plays like DB :)
I remember this mediocre multiplayer objective based shooter that came out called Brink, same devs as Dirty Bomb, and published by Bethesda with lukewarm reception back in 2011. They also worked on Enemy Territoy Quake Wars, which I admit I liked a bit better, had more depth to it even if it was a Battlefield game with a Quake skin slapped on it. Might have to try this out if there's enough people that still play...
Nice that you played some Brink and also know about Enemy Territory Quake Wars :) I feel confident saying that Dirty Bomb is a way better game than Brink. The downside though now when it comes to DB is a low player base, no official support and some veterans being very good at the game, making it "hard" for newcomers. But even so, I still enjoy DB once in a while :)
Thanks for your comment! My take on SBMM is pretty straight forward and simple; SBMM in casual game modes? No. SBMM in ranked game modes? Yes. The harsh SBMM settings in many modern shooters nowadays, gives you a repetitive and monotone gaming experience, since most matches feels or/and plays the same. I'd rather have more variation, meaning no SBMM, where I sometimes do well and sometimes struggle. More fun in the long run. It's not about stomping, it's about enjoying a game without caring to much.
@@40splishsplash alright yeah its guaranteed that the player count is being faked. I've monitored the servers for a while and there is never more than 80 on at once
@@abbadox315 Ok. Sounds weird though why anyone would do that with an old game that is almost dead. What does a few more hundred do when it comes to player count on average? It doesn't make sense for me.
Yes, I totally agree...If the cards would have been played right(!) at an earlier stage, Dirty Bomb could potentially still be a game that was doing well in 2024.
Splash Damage are just cash grabbers, when they stopped developing dirty bomb, the game had around 2k online players playing at the moment, which is plenty enough to support a game, but nah, all they want is money, i hate them so much, and i hope their company goes bankrupt, the game is good, but devs are #$@&%*!
I as well wish that the game wasn't just "left behind". The only reason we're still able to play this game, although the player count is low, is because of an active small community that also has established community servers.
I guess it depends on how you define parkour. But you can do pretty cool jumps bouncing off walls and obstacles in this game if you become good at it, that does look quite "parkourish".

Again, I don't have a good explanation either since DB is a game with no more updates. Otherwise that could have been an explanation , if for example a new season started.
pushing the numbers more will create much larger unwanted attention@@40splishsplash
Omg. This game really rocks! Accompany me through my sleepless night while handling a toddler and a baby. Helps me destress. Sad it had to end 😢
Nice to hear that! Yeah, Dirty Bomb still impresses me although it's just a handful of people playing it nowadays thanks to community servers.
It is as you described it! Great game, and I wish that they would make a Dirty Bomb 2!
That's lovely, I'm really glad this game has some new life. Dirty bomb was gone too soon
Yes, even if it's a small "breeze", it's still nice when a great game that has no further official support can still be up and running.
i played it again for the first time in like 5 yrs and i really liked it
Nice to hear that, man!
This isn't helldivers ok. It's not gonna be one of those games that gets super popular. They need to make a part 2 and change the game entirely
No, it's definitely not Helldivers. It has already had it it's peak some years ago, but it's still an amazing fps game in my book :)
@@40splishsplash mmmm get feel sir mmmm
Splash Damage made the classic BRINK, that I play pretty fervently, and all I can say is; I WANT BRINK 2!
Nice that you're mentioning BRINK. I was only able to play BRINK a bit. But yes, I would like to see a BRINK 2 as well, I believe they've learned quite some from making the first game, so it would probably be even better.
@@40splishsplash @sir_justinius I thought Dirty Bomb was basically BRINK 2? Or BRINK the do-over, since it was a bit of a flop.
@@johnnywakeup5515 I can't really say that DB is BRINK, they differ quite some. I believe that DB is a far better game overall than BRINK as a whole.
@@40splishsplash No argument there. DB is great.
I have thought about creating a "Dirty Bomb 2" since the movement and gunplay is unique compared to modern shooters... might just have to go for it now!
I would say do it! I'm surprised that we haven't seen more games that are "heavily inspired" by a game such as Dirty Bomb.
Will always be a favorite and crazy fun back then
Nice to hear that, and I agree :)
was too young to truly enjoy the game I wish I was able to right now
Ok! Yeah, maybe you'll appreciated DB more now when you've become a bit older. Could be so :)
DB was super underrated. It was a great alternative to TF2 which was the big daddy of class based multiplayer games (and still is).
I agree with you 100%!
Thanks for sharing those memories! it's nice to see that there's so many gamers that has enjoyed DB through the years :)
i really really really enjoying this game with my 3 other friend, almost every night we played it at least for 2 hours, grind with stoker and proxy, sad to see it...
(No official support any longer).
the finals reminds me of dirty bomb
There's some similarities although I personally believe that DB is a better game overall.
Yes! I said the same thing. Dirty Bomb is one of my all time favorite FPS games (1500+ hours).
@@cazralin2668 I just played dirty bomb the other day and found games mad quick. And i was like damn this shit really was the old finals
@@starn9 Yea I totally agree. I have a few hundred hours in The Finals. When I first started playing it I was like why does this feel like Dirty Bomb. Can't put my finger on what exactly, maybe the gun play or movement.
get this man to 20k
Thanks for saying :)
if there is dirty bomb 2 ima play it for sure
Same! I would be there on day one, lol
@@40splishsplash They should just release Dirty Bomb 2 at this point. Nothing will ever come close.
@@OnkelRobinjo yeah, that would have been dope!
Other companys would have just pulled the plug a shut everything down
Thanks for your comment and feedback! I'm still glad that we can still play DB in 2024. But a new game or at least a remake, would have been cool :)
The game definitely needs a remaster or a sequel
That would be very interesting to see and play!
They should sell it to a developer that knows how to manage a game and maybe bring it back to life
That would be nice. I would very much like to see a remake of Dirty Bomb.
How have I never heard of this game?
Well, it's been under the "radar" the last 5-6 years, since there's no longer any official support any longer by the devs. It's still up and running rhanks to community servers :)
I have not played it but ill try it out. had 542 players.
Nice, hope you'll like Dirty Bomb!
I've came back to DB for few days and if more time passes then it's harder to play. Huge disproportion between new players and veterans, it's practically unplayable you either stomp players that don't know what keyboard is or you get stomped by a Vassily that has so perfect aim that's so close aimbot
Was it fun? kinda... but I can't keep up anymore. Additionally for some reason recently all servers had serious disconnection and lag problem
The saddest part there's no other game that has similar gameplay to DB, this game has specific gunplay and TTK
SBMM is good. It can have poor implementation but it's good. It makes stomps less likely. How is this still a contested point
Yes, this game is very interesting even outside the CIS. I live in Russia and I really like it for its atmosphere, the unfolding of the game.
Indeed, nice to hear that you like DB :)
@@40splishsplash Foreign game bloggers are always better than Russian ones✨
@@SkyrekS456 Oh, you think so? Well, I'm glad that you watched my video :)

@@40splishsplash Or let's exchange contacts, for example. What do you think?
XDefiant is kind of like dirty bomb its more like call of duty but it definitely scratches that same itch.
There are some similarities, but as you say, it is a bit more like Cod, especially an older Cod game such as BO2, as an example.
@@40splishsplashYeah I miss Dirty Bomb I don't have a PC right now
@@AJY-ee7yk Aha, ok!
I'm surprised you did another year video for DB 😂
Well, it's one of my favourite fps games of all time, so I had to do that :)
Oh I thought the servers died?
The official servers (support) did some years ago, but the game is still up and running thanks to community servers.
Wait, the higher player count are people ?? i thought someone bought bots
Well, I do hope it's real people playing :) But in these days you can never be sure.
Still playing
Awesome!
Short answer : yes
Agree 100%
This game was so amazing, so sad they fumbled the bag with it's management
Yes, I totally agree...If the cards would have been played right(!) at an earlier stage, Dirty Bomb could potentially still be a game that was doing well in 2024.
Absolutely true i dumped 500 hours into this game and kinda just lost interest
Cool, 500 hours is a lot...I can understand that you felt like moving on after that :)
2015/2016 was peak gaming for me,
this game is so dead but its better than OW
Thanks for saying! Yes, the only reason DB is still up and running is thanks to community servers. I wish they would make a sequel game.
Stop tap healing stop tap healing stoptaphealingstoptaphealing

Splash Damage are just cash grabbers, when they stopped developing dirty bomb, the game had around 2k online players playing at the moment, which is plenty enough to support a game, but nah, all they want is money, i hate them so much, and i hope their company goes bankrupt, the game is good, but devs are #$@&%*!
I as well wish that the game wasn't just "left behind". The only reason we're still able to play this game, although the player count is low, is because of an active small community that also has established community servers.
obyectivk
objective..?
I can hear in his voice that he speaks BS. Game looks like lienar and he says parkour movements?
I guess it depends on how you define parkour. But you can do pretty cool jumps bouncing off walls and obstacles in this game if you become good at it, that does look quite "parkourish".
