a thing bricky should be told: warhammer fantasy has way more spiritual creatures and stuff than just Chaos. all forest sprites are essentially demons, just ones that dont work for Chaos. lots of places in the lands have spirits that can work with the forces or order, or try to kill you, but that doesnt mean they are doing it for the big 4
Yep, magic and the warp in fantasy are a bit more complicated than 40k. Gods manifest their powers a lot easier in fantasy as well. Sigmar and Ulric juice their followers all the time.

Kislev mages only being female cause it's a feminine trade is very old-nordic-coded. Most shamans were women, and finnish women were considered the most achieved magic-users. The only people who are always unhappy that the episode is too long : Shy, Bricky and DK. Everyone who's watching is like "You're cutting it short AGAIN?!"
I’ve fallen hard in love with this channel ever since the beginning of this year, so ending the year on an episode about my absolute favorite Fantasy faction was the perfect cap-off. Here’s to another year of Ridiculous shenanigans!
Ok I doubt that dj bricky and shy will see this but I hope they do cause my god, they deserve to know. For one, the winged hussars were one of the last major heavy Calvary forces in Europe, and in fact contemporaries to them thought Poland was incredibly backwards for still using heavy Calvary. But anyways, one of the most famous battle the winged hussars partook in was the siege of Vienna, specifically its ending. Basically the Ottoman Empire had lay siege to Vienna for quite a while (years I think but don’t quote me) and Vienna was, at the time, the last major defensive bastion for quite the distance. Had the ottomans been able to take Vienna history likely would have been extremely different. But anyways, the winged hussars along with many other Calvary contingents arrived at a hilltop overlooking the ottoman siege camp. What came next was the LARGEST CALVARY CHARGE, in history, mind this was in 1527, cannons and rudimentary guns were not uncommon at this point. 20,000 people on horse back, in shining armor, proceed to as one charge down the hillside smashing into ottoman defensive lines breaking the siege and with it, ending the last serious push by the ottomans further into Europe. It is truly one of the few moments in history I wish I could see as a third person omniscient perspective.
Bricky should know better than to be taken aback by "Praag" by now. Hell, even to just contain it to this episode, GW took "Kiev" and added an sl in the middle. The Warhammer Fantasy world is a slightly smudged version of Earth, you know this Bricky, we all do. Also, can we get a confirmation on whether or not the boys knows the difference between the holy roman empire and the roman empire?
Omg I had this happen to me the other day. Was talking about the HRE and Austria during the Seven Years war, and the person I was talking to cut me off to say I meant Caesar when I said Holy Roman Emperor. One of these days they'll accept that Warhammer Fantasy being just fantasy-earth isn't because they thought they'd get away with it but the point. Next they'll be shocked when they realize Bretonnia is France, Albion is England, and Ulthuan is Atlantis. Maybe the true brain blast of Ind being India.

really good episode and overall a far improvement from the Greenskins episode. DK managed to relatively balance both important characters as well as general lore as well as some of the more nuanced small stuff that really fleshes out the faction and WH fantasy as a whole. the only things that I will say needs improvement (NAPWISS) is that DK should maybe emphasize a bit more that WH fantasy is not a Medieval Dark-High fantasy but a Renaissance/ early gunpowder era dark-high fantasy. I would've liked if he mentioned just a tiny bit about the Streltsi or the fact they have bear-pulled cannons as artillery
I know this series is supposed to be focused on Old World/Fantasy, but honestly I’d really enjoy if Realm of Ridiculous extended into Age of Sigmar. Like, if you guys covered the End Times and then continued with Sigmar, going over the factions in that setting next. Or even if you guys wanted to keep this show to only Old World, just going back and doing part 2s to topics that you couldn’t finish like the Skaven. Basically I just want infinite content
Because Isekai cities are typically based on late Medieval/Renaissance Era European walled cities cause fantasy setting and they typically had a pretty predictable layout.
58:14 The Hag Witches of Kislev can not look different, because they age a lot faster than normal people. Like, you see a "decrepit old woman" and she tells you that she is 27 years old. Once you are born with this "gift" of seeing the spirits of the land, that is your fate. Meanwhile, the Wise Women are basically the group of people to teach the young Hag Witches before their gifts "activate". They also do not directly use magic, but rather make deals with the spirits of the land and have them do stuff.
@@MySuperPowerIsITouchGrass Are you saying they are basically super heavy knights errant? Heavily specialized? A swiss army knife faction? I'm not trying to nit pick, I'm just generally confused how you are comparing these two lol
@NotAnAlphaLegionary sorry for the confusion. Let me see if I can clarify. Role wise Kislev is the first order nation the Chaos factions reach. This means they deal with them more often than any other faction with Cathay being a close number 2. As stated by OP, this makes their role similar to that of Cadia in 40k. Gameplay wise, at least in W3, they are the SM of fantasy. Warriors of Chaos are the elite armored faction of fantasy. In fact, SM and CSM are based on them. Kislev is a reflection of them, with beefy armord infantry that aren't as good as they Choas counter parts but way better than most other order faction. They also got some big monsters like WoC. Kislev does really more on ranged but thats because while their units can compete with WoC, they have fewer models, so they need that ranged DPS to handle units like chosen. Now going forward here is some speculation as to why this is. Current Kislev is the result of a rewrite for the old world. Units like ice guard and frost wyrms did not exist when the faction was last playable in (6th?) edition. Before the Old World got massively reduced in scope, Kislev was going to be a launch faction for the game. This is likely because one of the issues identified by GW with WHFB was that the empire was a difficult starter faction. A horde army that's hard to paint makes for a bad first faction for new playera. The Kislev rewrite was likely an attempt to resolve this issue. Hope this comment helped! Edit: tldr; they are the swiss army knife faction.

The painting that you put up to show actual historical cossacks (the Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks) has an entertaining story behind it. Apparently the sultan of Turkey sent a letter telling the cossacks to surrender to him. The letter they sent in response was ... less than polite. This is a painting of the supposed drafting of the supposed response to the Turkish Sultan. I recommend hitting wikipedia (Correspondence between the Ottoman sultan and the Cossacks) 'cause I'm afraid the best bits of the best versions are probably too vulgar for UA-cam. But that is -exactly- the kind of response you'd expect to see from the guys in that picture -- or a bunch of Kislevites doing the same. I'm not sure of the actual veracity of the whole thing -- there are multiple versions of the response in the historical records -- but it's too entertaining for me to want it to be debunked.
It's also worth noting that Mother Ostankya (basically THE Hag Mother, and the old lady with the basket of skulls on her back that Bricky was concerned about) is so heavily inspired by the Slavic witch Baba Yaga that she was originally just named Baba Yaga (like GW shamelessly ripped her off, complete with chicken-legged hut).

Where is warhammer version of Zawisza the black? Where is Dragon Wawelski? Where is Stańczyk?
Where is Wernyhora?
On the note of things being taken straight out of the history books, ever looked at a picture of a Landsknecht next to a picture of an Empire Greatsword? Pretty much the same thing :p
59:52 That is so cool. That sacred of hospitality is something I genuinely think of as a good societal value.
Actually I think they specifically make exception for Chaos. Anyone else can come right in. Chaos? Apply axe to neck, repeatedly.
THEN THE WINGED HUSARS ARRIVED!!
COMING DOWN THE MOUNTAINSIDE
COMING DOWN THEY TURNED THE TIDE
45:32 so fun fact: no the winged hussars were one of the premier cavalry of Eastern Europe until they were made outdated by firearms and pikes
Didn’t they dress as ostentatiously as they did so everyone would recognize them? As a way to demoralize enemy troops?
@ yeah they dressed like that to both stand out on the battlefield and the clacking of their wings would scare enemy horses and make the hussars themselves look bigger for intimidation.
In fairness, they did keep heavy armoured cavalry relevant for a lot longer than Western Europe.
(And also it was from Poland that the lance was popularised again in the Napoleonic Era with the Lancers/Uhlans.)
Can't believe the Everchosen didn't even find out his army was getting the most devilish Imperial backshots.
didnt even start but fuck it...PRAISE THE BEAR!!
FOR URSUN, fOR KISLEV!
Never miss a chance to sing "Let it Go" while casting Kislevs Ice magic. Heh.
As someone who lived in Prague his entire life, I have to admit that the Everchosen shenanigans have been absolutely wild😂😂😂
Frost wyrms also obay the ice court. It's their trump card when they need something big to be killed. They also have snow cats they can summon!
You mean snow leopards
Poland metioned! W for today received
1:26:40 where they start talking about TW: Warhammer 3, it brought back nostalgia when he started playing through one of my favorite games, even though at launch it wasn't the best.
I understand him not getting into it and don't blame him. I liked that he tried it out, even though I wish he could give it another shot with all the content and patches he's done.
And regarding the 4X stuff, IMO, it's actually more beginner friendly in terms of tutorial than any other installment in the Total war series, where things were more complicated. Just wish it had that tutorial in the first game in the series with how it explains everything.
calling it now.... when its spring they are going to do wood elf's...or in terms of my fellow dwarfs. THOSE DAMN POINTY EARED TREE HUGGERS......ROCK AND STONE
BEAR CAVALRY ON VODKA LETS GOOO
A fun fact, in the new Old world game, which is the new edition of warhammer fantasy after the endtimes we have gone back to just befoe Azavar Khull, hence we now have gotten lore indicating that Kislev at the time was much larger than it is right before the endtimes
That isn't necessarily new. We know they held parts of the empire for a while since the old days.
Man, can you please fix your commas.
53:20 not exactly, the winds are normal come straight out of the warp. In the case of ice magic it flows though the ancient widow first, she changes it somehow. It's actually stronger than normal magic as a result but the training to uses it is also more brutal. Most girls who train to be ice witches do not live to become one.
a thing bricky should be told: warhammer fantasy has way more spiritual creatures and stuff than just Chaos. all forest sprites are essentially demons, just ones that dont work for Chaos. lots of places in the lands have spirits that can work with the forces or order, or try to kill you, but that doesnt mean they are doing it for the big 4
Yep, magic and the warp in fantasy are a bit more complicated than 40k. Gods manifest their powers a lot easier in fantasy as well. Sigmar and Ulric juice their followers all the time.
Yeah, there are many good gods and spirits in Fantasy. It isn't a thing of Sigmar vs Chaos + non-human gods are also there.
Just like how Undead are an evil magical force entirely unconnected from Chaos.
@gokbay3057 Depends on which ones we are talking about because those under Settra's command are undead who fight against Nagash (supreme evil Necromancer)
Kislev mages only being female cause it's a feminine trade is very old-nordic-coded. Most shamans were women, and finnish women were considered the most achieved magic-users. The sheer threat of these finnish women sometimes kept the vikings off their coasts.
Sources - I'm a swede, having heard of sagas of how shit-scared the swedish vikings were of finnish magic, and how kings and queens travelled to Finland to be helped by- or learn from these finnish witches.
And Babajaga
we need these episodes more often then once a month :P
Most killed faction in Total War Warhammer 3
Killed in 1 day in the end times
Ignored by GW to give them an army
BUT I DON’T CARE! I WILL FIGHT AND DIE FOR THE BEAR, FOR THE MOTHERLAND, FOR THE TZARINA!
At least they’re getting a rework in SoC 3.0
@ when people asked why they are getting reworked over Norska (who absolutely also deserve a rework) I point at the fact at least The cave man can survive to turn 50. The ice queen is usually the only one standing with only her capitol
I always wanted more lore for the Wheatlands too. The Kislev territory on the other side of the mountains. And More history about Trollcountry and their relationship with norscans.
Like, why the hell do we have so many stories of norscan raids in the Enpire but so little in Kislev? Come on GW, so you want my money or not?
Luckly there are still fan Made content that include not Only armies but colonies as well.
I swear Kislev’s 9th edition fan made army book is better than anything GW could have made, and some madlad actually made entire website page about Wheatlands and other minor colonies/factions purely Basic them on oldhammer lore
Kislev is the single most flavorful faction in Warhammer 3. Everyday feels like the end of world in Kislev. Its great.
Also helps how strong their low-tier units are. Amoured Kossars are ridiculous all the way to endgame. They also have the most high quality mods alongside Dawi on the workshop.
I'm so bricked up for Kislev, and by bricked up I mean it's an icicle
The only people who are always unhappy that the episode is too long : Shy, Bricky and DK. Everyone who's watching is like "You're cutting it short AGAIN?!"
I freaking adore Kislev! When I tried to homebrew my own Space Marine chapter it accidentally turned into Kislev space marines 😅
I love that
Space bears?
I’ve fallen hard in love with this channel ever since the beginning of this year, so ending the year on an episode about my absolute favorite Fantasy faction was the perfect cap-off. Here’s to another year of Ridiculous shenanigans!
Winged hussars? My understanding is that they arrive
im looking forward to the norsca episode and the potential of kremlo being talked about
When the Winged Hussars Arrive!
The traditional Kislev hello: "Freezed to beat you."
KISLEV HAS NOT YET PERISHED,
SO LONG AS WE STILL LIVE.
Can't wait to listen to this, I can bear-ly contain my excitement
Fun fact Kislev is Jewish third month of the year.
I'd been talking about Maria Theresa and mentioning her dad as the Holy Roman Emperor. I just ended the convo at that point cause I didn't even know where to start.
@NotAnAlphaLegionary That's kinda hilarious
Yesss vampire counts! Mannfred is coming!
… Nobody is going to mention the SUPER OLD Lore about the Goddess of Order buried under Praag?
… understandable….
Thanks!
Wings are the symbols of the Badassery
I don't know why I was surprised about seeing this topic. Tis the season, after all.
Honestly, Kislev is one of my favorite factions. They might be Eastern Europe, the mashup, but I love them.
I love when dk says “this is the tldr version” then goes over everything anyways
Family feud but it's two Kislev families with beef that duel with each other between question rounds. Steve Harvey is just the same guy but in a Kislevite attire.
Bricky thinking about the forsworn from skyrim when looking at the ungols :D
Dk finally puts respect on the ever chosen name compared to his empire episode
One of these days they'll accept that Warhammer Fantasy being just fantasy-earth isn't because they thought they'd get away with it but the point. Next they'll be shocked when they realize Bretonnia is France, Albion is England, and Ulthuan is Atlantis. Maybe the true brain blast of Ind being India.
The ungols are basically tribal Slav, while the kost sounds like cossocks
But later on the Kislev looks Polish, Serb, Rus, Ukrainian and cossack
I hear you but on the contrary Monglos=Ungols
@@angolomat882 I thought so too, but just by hearing ungols here, they don't sound like they have any horse based warrior while the Kost does.
The kost sounds like Mongols, tartars cossacks
Not Mongols exactly, but definitely steppe people . Alans, Volga Bulgars, Khazars, etc, basically all the tribes Kislev... I mean Kievan Rus and later Muscovy subjugated
really good episode and overall a far improvement from the Greenskins episode.
They confirmed they will talk about aos after end times
About time we got back to fantasy 👏👏
Why does Praag look like every Isekai city?
The other way round you mean.
Because Isekai cities are typically based on late Medieval/Renaissance Era European walled cities cause fantasy setting and they typically had a pretty predictable layout.
You get isekai'd to Praag. You, my dear anime protagonist, are f****d. Not in the fun harem way.
because every isekai city is based on medieval era cities, which WFB is also took a lot of ideas
Kizlev: Russia, but it's always Winter.
Kislev.
Kislev.

WHEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVE
Not what we asked for Slaaneshmas but Dwarf Shy holding a pint on a parrot perch is definitly what we needed !

Kislev's role seems comparable to cadia in 40k
That be praag
That's about right. Tho as far as how they play in TWW3 they are the space marines. Them and Cathay.
Edit: tldr; they are the swiss army knife faction.
warhammer fantasy lore episodes is mostly they learning about history or not realizing they are talking about history.
Kislev: you get exactly what is on the tin.
Gospodar is an actual thing. Funnily enough it’s a Slavic term for lord or master.
The actial term is "gospodin"
Practically master or can be used as "mr."
@@swatcccp4673 Gospodar or Hospodar as lord or master exists in several Slavic languages, especially south slavic. It's also related to also related to Gospod, which is the Lord, as in "The Lord thy god."
@boyanpenev9822 thank you for the addition. I wrote the russian version of this word, reckon its also relevant here.
1:21:28 I'm gonna say the handle of the Axe must have some flex to it and be strung like a bow so they can loose a quick arrow between strikes.
here's a tiny bout of bonus lore to link it to the real world- Kislev is actually a real name; for a month, from the old Gregorian calendar
*facepalm* No DK! Total War Warhammer 3 had Kataryn and Constalton from Kislev as part of the base factions for that game! Also Katarin's Dad Boris was the secret Lord you could unlock by finding him during Katarin's campaign!
I know warhammer fantasy came first but I played league of legends first, so can help but see so many freljord champion parallels. Ash, sejuani, volibear, trundle, lissandra, Olaf, udyr are all there.
Kislev.
(Perhaps my favorite mortal tall boy faction)
You guys still need to do vampire counts, ogre kingdoms, chaos dwarfs, norsca, dark elves, wood elves, beastmen, bretonnia and I think that's all
Kislev sounds surprisingly medieval-nordic-icelandic in some of their rules. Especially their family blood feud thing
Adeptus ridiculous are like the only podcast where I ever hear complaining about episode length, like I know their shills but why take the extra time to complain about it?
"Hey! Where the wise women at?" distant ancestor of Sheriff Bart.
Great episode can't wait to hear about the next faction! ❤
1:04:25 Oh, that event! Oh, it's great. It's a painting called Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks by Ilya Repin. You should look it up; it's a blast.
95% of the names for Kislev tribes, customs etc. were taken from real life Slavic countries, with one letter changed.
Bear, Vodka and ice. That is a Kislev way.
A way better and eye appealing video
44:00 AND WHAT IS BORIS DOIN' 'ERE?! BORIS! WHAT ARE YOU DOIN' 'ERE!?
Sleigh Queen!
Ah, the kingdom of Elsa
It would be sick if they got someone who actually was into Warhammer Fantasy and knew the lore to host these eps
I can’t be the only one who heard “hit and run tactics” and immediately thought White Scars
It's also worth noting that Mother Ostankya (basically THE Hag Mother, and the old lady with the basket of skulls on her back that Bricky was concerned about) is so heavily inspired by the Slavic witch Baba Yaga that she was originally just named Baba Yaga (like GW shamelessly ripped her off, complete with chicken-legged hut).
kislev really out here hagmaxxing
