Haa The doctor doesn't know his own name!!! Matt sounded soo bitter when he said "Welcome to our life" and when he said " He knows and HE WON'T TELL ME" I just found that SO funny
It's widely specculated that the Doctor's true name is "The Other" one of the three founders of Time Lord Society and companion to Rasslion and Omega, however I'm somewhat sketchy on the details but I believe in the Dark Times the Other became a Tyrant on Gallifray, was over thrown, stole a proto-type TARDIS and escaped into a device called The Loom which Time Lords used to replicate, the loom consumed all the memories and personailties of any Time Lord who entered it and and built new Time Lords out of it, it's specculated that the Other hid in the Loom and most of his memories were passed onto the Doctor when he was born from the Loom, all of this comes from novels based around Omega, Rassilon and the early days of Gallifray so it has a somewhat dubious connection to the main cannon pushed by the show, however the Seventh Doctor made several references to the Other and Omega through out the series and the 11th Doctor has made references to the earlier episodes featuring Omega when he said "I have walked through a universe where the laws of reality where dictated by the will of one man" not to mention Rasslion has appeared in the series as well, so my bet is that Moffat, who likes going back to earlier stuff might find some connection to that.
When you think about it, there are many things a Doctor Who fan would do just for that bit of information. He has so much more power over this fandom than we care to admit.
If they revealed that the doctor's name was Keith, then they would have to change the show's name to Keith. It's a little less mysterious than Doctor Who.
To me, in my personal opinion, revealing the Doctor's real name won't change a thing in my eyes. I want to know his real name, lots of others do. And even if they do speak his real name, he will still be The Doctor to me, he will always be The Doctor to me. Love him to bits I do. :)
...the remarkable thing is that he went by aliases and nicknames even when he was young (All the other Time Lords he went to school with know him as "Theta Sigma" in the classic series) The people who ever knew can probably be counted with your fingers - Probably his parents and brother, that hermit he was friends with as a kid, the Master (since they knew each other before the academy, probably since the gallifreyan equivalent of a kindergarten), and now, of course, River and Clara.
It's implies that she reads it in that secret room in 'journey to the center of the tardis', which she initially forgets but remember in the series 7 finale. Though of course it's less explicit than in River's case so I suppose you might consider it up to interpretation.@@LeeMinSooya Of course we'll prolly never hear it on.screen simply because it would be hard to come up with anything that will live up to the hype. After all if you're going to answer a mystery the answer has to be as good as the mystery or it'll just be a downgrade
The doctor actually has more to his past than just the first doctor. He called himself the doctor, since he was no longer who he used to be. They have hinted more in the series of who the doctor is more than you might think. He is more than just a Galifrayan, more than just a time lord. Just using this information based upon lines in show.
Wow, I forgot about this comment. That seems very interesting. Also a fact you may not know: They've actually given away the Doctor's real name. Not in the show, but in Comic books and Novels. It's a strange, pronounceable name, but it has no meaning really. So why does everyone ask him what his name is? Why does he hide it?
hmm... so that means the thing that new who has been leading up to and old fans hate is true? I hope they never actually reveal that unless the show cancels forever, and no one wants that. Unless they get a new time lord, or give no reason for the name.
Okay, well, old fans still hate that... because they always saw the doctor as small-time, unimportant timelord who takes time to save Earth. It's their way of relating to him, as unlike the new series, the old series didn't spend much time humanizing the doctor. Then again, Capaldi seems to be acting more like the old doctors and the episodes feel more like the old series aside from the length, so I wonder what fans think of it.
That's exactly how it feels to me. It won't change anything...he'll still be "The Doctor"...but it would be awesome to know what it really is all the same, to know why he won't tell it to anyone.
You mean... William Hartnell . Patrick Troughton . Jon Pertwee . Tom Baker Peter Davison Colin Baker . Sylvester McCoy . Paul McGann . Christopher Eccleston . David Tennant . Matt Smith.
If they do reveal his Gallifreyan name in "The Name Of The Doctor" (which I hope - to the audience - they don't), I want it to be something really generic, like Jeff.
His name is the sound that you hear during the intro and the best way to translate it into English is the word “who “ hence why he choose the name Doctor. So people can say Doctor who?
"its been there from the start hasn't it?" and im sitting here smiling cause i think i know too. yeah guys its kinda been there from BEFORE the start even. do some looking around and you will eventually run across it. watch the 1963 opening for William Hartnell (all 3) don't you find something....a bit Odd about it? then there is the fact there was an old sci fi novel of an enigmatic space traveling scientist who was called Doctor (with a name after it) and had two companions that traveled with him 60 years before Doctor Who. and then a character with the same name as that Doctor crops up in Doctor who later on playing extremely important role. there are no coincidences. of course i will leave it open to doubt, i will never say i am 100 percent sure anything really, that would be silly and make me look extremely presumptive and stupid if i am wrong. i will say this though, i am at the least 90 percent sure i am right on this, with 10 percent doubt, just in case....who knows? so until the time comes for the Doctor to reveal his name, its up for debate.
well saying the name completely answers the question of the Doctor's name (if i am right, which i stress i am not totally sure, i cannot emphasize that enough.) but ok here goes, Doctor Omega and the Fantastic adventure to Mars by Arnold Galopin. it came out 60 years before Sydney Newmans Doctor Who, has a white haired mysterious scientist who takes two companions on an adventure to Mars in a ship he builds. there is actually a ton more to my theory that leaves even less room for coincidence but i feel i probably have said too much lol. that is if i am right. if im wrong....well, uh.....carry on, dont mind me but i just feel all these coincidences are kinda weird and it fits too well. also why would people establish an entire religion based on the QUESTION never being answered but then make said answer their symbol???? haha Moffat, so sneaky and blatant at the same time :P
Take a look at this wikipedia entry which gives more info on the possible origins of Dr Who: en . wikipedia . org / wik i /Doctor _ Omega. It's quite interesting.
All the fanfiction a I've read have a name for the doctor, the same name so if I'm right then I know the doctors name. It may not be correct but it's something
You said it was in the Theta Sigma DW Series and then I asked wasn't it in the novel called Lungbarrow, where you got the name from? I think you misunderstood me.
I don't know if you got my other reply but I'll repeat it. Wherever you got your info from it isn't canon so it's not confirmed and you shouldn't go by it. And by "canon" I mean not confirmed as part of the actual Doctor Who mythos, i.e. It was never placed on air in an episode by Moffat to be accepted as actually part of the show.
the actor's name from 2005 to 2010 is david tennant. the current actor is matt smith. they are talking about the character "The Doctor". He has a real name but he wont tell anyone.
Well, whatever you got this info from, it's not confirmed that it is canon. So, I wouldn't go by it. Especially, if Steven Moffat still acts like it isn't public knowledge and that it still remains to be discovered, like in this video. How do they know- where you got it from- if Moffat is "the only person who knows why" it's a secret.
I don't think you understand what "canon" means. Look it up in a dictionary. And I looked it up on google. It didn't make a difference. All it said was that the book and stories and whatever that name came from that wasn't from tv isn't confirmed as true or not according to the show.
It's a possibility. One of the best ways to keep a secret is to show it to everybody, so they will think it's not a secret. I would be pleased if The Doctor's real name was John Smith, but I think I would prefet something more "deep hidden" (if this expression has a sense, I'm not quite sure it has one xD).
Haa The doctor doesn't know his own name!!! Matt sounded soo bitter when he said "Welcome to our life" and when he said " He knows and HE WON'T TELL ME" I just found that SO funny
The doctor doesn't even know his own name...poor Matt
"Welcome to our life. A succession of Steven knowing information, having the power to withhold it, and smiling at us."
i think the doctor is embarrassed about his name... it is probably Susan or something
That would truly be awesome
Would've been so much better than the Timeless child
Thoughts on this take now?
I love how Moffat trolls his cast as well with the name XD
MATT KEEPS TOUCHING HIS HAIR I WANNA CRY
His name is john smith it's obvious if you think about it. Hidden in plain sight.
haha totally
That's just the name he uses when he's undercover or whatever he does
When you think about it, there are many things a Doctor Who fan would do just for that bit of information. He has so much more power over this fandom than we care to admit.
Ask river she knows
If they revealed that the doctor's name was Keith, then they would have to change the show's name to Keith. It's a little less mysterious than Doctor Who.
They'd change the name to Keith Who. Cause we'd have to know his last name.
I want the last line of the whole to be the Doctor's name
I probably won't be around when DW ends, but if I am, I will cry if they reveal his name
To me, in my personal opinion, revealing the Doctor's real name won't change a thing in my eyes. I want to know his real name, lots of others do. And even if they do speak his real name, he will still be The Doctor to me, he will always be The Doctor to me. Love him to bits I do. :)
I love how Arthur is just sitting there...
0:10 Moffat's face and tone turned sassy real fast
I would laugh so hard if the doctor's name was keith xD
If you dig into the lore, the doctors real name is a time lord equation. That’s what I read at least.
...the remarkable thing is that he went by aliases and nicknames even when he was young (All the other Time Lords he went to school with know him as "Theta Sigma" in the classic series) The people who ever knew can probably be counted with your fingers - Probably his parents and brother, that hermit he was friends with as a kid, the Master (since they knew each other before the academy, probably since the gallifreyan equivalent of a kindergarten), and now, of course, River and Clara.
How does Clara know his true name? I'm confused? Did I miss something?
It's implies that she reads it in that secret room in 'journey to the center of the tardis', which she initially forgets but remember in the series 7 finale. Though of course it's less explicit than in River's case so I suppose you might consider it up to interpretation.@@LeeMinSooya Of course we'll prolly never hear it on.screen simply because it would be hard to come up with anything that will live up to the hype. His name is Please lol

If they do reveal his Gallifreyan name in "The Name Of The Doctor" (which I hope - to the audience - they don't), I want it to be something really generic, like Jeff.
Doctor: My name has been revealed! My name is ATEM!!!
His name is the sound that you hear during the intro and the best way to translate it into English is the word “who “ hence why he choose the name Doctor. So people can say Doctor who?

there are no coincidences.
of course i will leave it open to doubt, i will never say i am 100 percent sure anything really, that would be silly and make me look extremely presumptive and stupid if i am wrong. i will say this though, i am at the least 90 percent sure i am right on this, with 10 percent doubt, just in case....who knows? so until the time comes for the Doctor to reveal his name, its up for debate.
